“Yes,” she answered both her mental question and theirs with
one word. “I’m not sure about renting this place out, though. Maybe in time.
Then again, we could just keep it clean and handy for nights when we’re too
pooped or skunked to drive.”
“We could,” Reid slowly nodded and looked around. “We could
make a few changes in about a year or so. It would be a great room for the
little one to hang out away from the chaos upstairs when you’re working.”
Marsha nearly choked on her saliva. “Little one?”
Porter shrugged. “Or ones. We’re flexible. If you want more
than one down the road then…”
The rest of his sentence got drowned out by the pulse
pounding in Marsha’s ears. They were talking about children,
babies
, a
family with her! “You two are serious.” She couldn’t hide the disbelief in her
tone.
“We love you,” Reid said simply, softly.
“We walked away once. It won’t happen again,” Porter said
with such conviction he left her no choice but to believe him.
Marsha pushed out a hard breath and slowly nodded. She’d
known the moment the door to Bulls Eye Billiards opened barely four weeks ago
that trouble was walking in. Little had she known then just how much that
trouble duo would change her life.
She reached for both of them, suddenly so sleepy she could
hardly keep her eyes open. She cupped Reid’s cheek with one hand and found
Porter’s muscular biceps with the other. “I won’t let either of you walk away
again. I love you both too much for that.”
Porter leaned down and pressed his lips to hers in a fierce
kiss that ended far too quickly. Reid dipped his head as Porter eased back and
brushed his lips to her forehead.
“Sleep, sweetheart, we’ll talk more about all this
tomorrow.”
Marsha let her eyes close as they settled next to her,
Porter’s leg draped over hers and one hand still in her hair, and Reid with a
hand on her belly drawing lazy circles around her bellybutton. When sleep
finally claimed her, she drifted off with Travis Tritt singing
T-R-O-U-B-L-E
in her head and knew he might have been singing about a girl in his song, but
he’d never come across her double duo.
