“I need to get into the corner,” Carina
said.

“Let me do it.”

“I thought you didn’t want to get
paint on you.”

“Down,” Gray said with stern eyes.

Carina climbed down the ladder and
handed the paint roller to Gray.

The townhouse they picked out was
absolutely perfect, except the walls were white and boring. It bothered Carina
from day one and she finally convinced Gray to let her paint. She didn’t choose
any crazy colors, but a color that accented the trim and the white ceiling.

Gray climbed the ladder and
finished painting the nooks and crannies Carina couldn’t get to. Carina didn’t mind
the view of watching Gray become this domesticated man. Yet his look was pure
rock n’ roll. It was actually really sexy to have a rockstar painting the living
room.

When Gray finished, he came down
the ladder and looked at his work.

“There. It’s done now. Finally.”

“What about the bedroom?” Carina
asked. “We should paint it something sexy. Like a lipstick red color.”

Gray looked down at her. “You’re
teasing me into this.”

“So?” Carina nibbled at Gray’s
bottom lip.

“Don’t do this now, baby. I have to
go in a few minutes. We have a meeting with Frank for more radio shows.”

“You sounded so hot yesterday.”

Gray laughed. “Thanks.”

Fallen Tuesday was getting back
into the swing of things. The fans were eager. Upon the release of their first
single, the song shot straight to number one and held there for over a week
now.

Angie had called and announced that
she was living her own dream of going to Los Angeles. Thanks to Gray and Frank,
Angie had plenty of work waiting for her. She jokingly promised Carina that she
would send a postcard when she got there. Instead, she had texted a picture of
herself sitting on the beach with a caption that read, “If you ever leave the
bedroom, make sure to come put your toes in the sand with me!”

The final touches were put on the
song Carina had brought to the studio, and so far there had already been calls
from a beverage company, a car company, and a sports league hoping to use her
song for their commercials. Carina also sold two other songs, both poised to
become major hits. She liked to tease Gray that maybe she would be the one
making all the money soon.

“I think I’m done here,” Carina
said as she eyed the living room.

“Good,” Gray said.

He went to the kitchen and Carina picked
up the pile of mail she had just thrown on the counter. Carina flipped through
the mail and saw a letter addressed to her.

When she saw the name in the
corner, she almost dropped the letter.

“What’s wrong?” Gray asked.

“Your brother sent me something.”

“What?”

Carina opened the envelope and took
out a piece of paper.

Carina -

The choices we make with a
selfish heart will ruin the world around us. Trust me, it’s the path I’ve taken
my entire life. It’s the only path I’ve known. Part of being sober is allowing
foggy memories to come to life. Usually these are the memories that make me
want to use again to chase them away. The worst memory is leaving your
apartment and seeing the look on your face. What I did, the fear I caused, that
can never be taken back. I hated the idea of writing a letter to you to say I’m
sorry, but that’s all I can say.

I’m sorry.

I’m not the man who took that
money from you. I’m not the man who picked the lock to your apartment. I’m not
the man who didn’t care and who got lost in darkness because he was afraid of
the light.

Who am I then?

I don’t know yet. I promise you,
and I promise my brother, I am healing. I am trying. Everyday I fight and
everyday I feel like I win a small battle. But it’s the memories that get to
me. I don’t expect you to do anything but read this letter. I only hope you can
now find peace with everything that happened. To know that someone as evil as
myself and what I was capable of is no longer in existence.

As far as my brother goes, he’s
the greatest man I’ve ever known. I’m sure you’ve figured that out by now. He
never judged me. He never hated me. Sometimes I blamed him for that. But the
only person I can blame is me. And I do. I’ll cope with that.

I am sorry for what I’ve done, Carina.
I won’t ask for your forgiveness because to me that would be selfish. If you
are still reading this, then I thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving
my words a chance.

-Peter

Carina handed the letter to Gray.
She felt numb after reading it. Gray read it and folded it up. He looked at
her.

“At least he’s getting help,” Gray
said.

“Yes. I hope he does heal
completely.”

“Come here,” Gray said. “Give me a
hug, baby.”

Gray hugged Carina tight. She held
back tears and found the strength to really let it all go. Her new life was
with Gray. She had her music. She had a career. She had a life she loved and a
man that made her heart and head spin.

Carina kissed Gray and then his
hands were on her ass. He lifted her and Carina wrapped her legs tight around
him. She could get used to living with Gray. Especially when every kiss turned
into something else.

Then the doorbell rang, killing the
moment.

“Damn,” Gray whispered.

“Damn,” Carina said.

Gray opened the door and in came
Luke, Mack, and Jake.

Trent wasn’t with them.

“Guys… where’s Trent?”

Luke’s face was angry.

“He won’t tell us,” Mack said
pointing at Luke.

“What?” Gray asked. “Luke, what the
hell is going on?”

Luke turned and looked ready to
explode. “Chloe.”

The name shook Gray to his core.
“No…”

“Yes,” Luke said.

“Wait a second,” Mack said. “You
mean…
the
Chloe?”

“My Chloe?” Jake asked.

“Your Chloe?” Luke said, shaking
his head. “Sure, your Chloe. Your Chloe is the reason why Trent isn’t here
right now. We’re in trouble.”

“Trouble?” Gray asked.

Luke took out his phone and tossed
it to the table. “Big trouble. I don’t know the details yet but Chloe came back
into the picture… and we lost our bassist.”

“What do you mean we lost our
bassist?” Gray asked.

“Just what I said. I talked to
Frank for a minute and he made it pretty damn clear… something happened last
night and Trent is in jail.”
