– an Ottoman title equivalent to prince or noble

Hamam
– Turkish bath

Hanım
– ‘Mrs’ or ‘Miss’, female version of ‘Bey’

Hanımefendi
– female equivalent of ‘Efendi’

Klezmer
– Askenazi Jewish dance band

Lycée
– high school

Samovar
– metal water heater, usually for tea
