Alena!” he exclaimed happily.

Good morning, Gavin,” Alena said warmly.

The two headed to the kitchen.

“What do you want for breakfast?” Alena asked.

Cinnamon rolls please,” Gavin replied.

Alena
smiled, “Sure.”

Alena
made breakfast for Gavin and left some for Royce along with his coffee.

Royce
stretched and yawned. He groggily reached over; fully expecting to find Alena next to him but he found that she was gone.

Hmm
... she must have gotten up already
, he thought to himself.

Royce
got in the shower and grinned thinking about the past night’s events. He hummed happily to himself as he shaved and brushed his teeth. He was in an unusually cheery mood as he made his way into the kitchen.

Good morning,” he beamed.

Royce! Alena made cinnamon rolls!” Gavin chirped.

Royce
wrapped his arms around Alena and went in for a kiss only to find her to turn her cheek to him. A bit taken aback, he sat down at the table feeling somewhat confused.

Gavin
piled pieces of his cinnamon rolls on his fork shoveling them into his mouth.

Between bites he exclaimed,
“I have karate today!” he swallowed. “Will you come Royce?”

Yeah, yeah. You know I will already I don’t know why you ask but don’t talk with your mouth full,” Royce smiled.

Royce
pulled Alena aside.

I want you to be really careful when I’m not here OK?” Royce said looking into Alena’s beautiful eyes. He wondered if it was possible that she became more beautiful since last night.

I will,” she replied softly.

Call me if you need anything. Call me if anything seems funny. I mean it,” Royce said sternly.

Royce, I’m sure it’s fine. I don’t know why Blake would want to continue this,” Alena replied.

Alena, look he’s a bad dude. I’m pretty sure he killed his last girlfriend. This guy is off his rocker,” he replied.

Alena
looked up to Royce with a shocked and slightly frightened look in her eyes.

Just don’t go anywhere by yourself. Promise me, OK?” Royce replied.

Alena
nodded, “Of course.”

Royce
gave her a quick kiss and then Gavin a hug before heading to work.

Alena
cleaned the kitchen and then played blocks with Gavin for awhile. Then she unpacked some of her things. She unpacked the box which contained her school books. She put them on the kitchen table.

Hmm
... I really need to start studying again. Next semester is coming soon
, Alena thought to herself.

Alena
made lunch for herself and Gavin and then decided to give Jessica a call.

Hello?” Jessica answered in her usual upbeat voice.

Hi Jes! It’s Alena!” Alena replied.

Alena! It’s so good to hear from you,” Jessica replied.

Oh my gosh, Jessica! So much has happened. Do you want to do dinner tomorrow night?” Alena asked.

Sure! What time? Should we invite Lisa?” Jessica questioned.

Yes! Do you want to call her? How about seven tomorrow?” Alena asked.

Seven is great! I’ll call Lisa and I’ll meet you at the restaurant tomorrow at seven!” Jessica replied.

***

Alena met Royce at Gavin’s new karate school. The two sat with the other parents and watched as the kids practiced.

Royce
took Alena’s small delicate hand within his large one.

I didn
’t know Royce could be like this. He used to be so cold, so angry, so distant but now he’s so loving and kind
, Alena thought to herself.

“Oh
, tomorrow night I’m going to dinner with the girls. Could you and Gavin order a pizza or something?” Alena asked.

Royce
nodded.

Just make sure to be careful,” Royce replied.

Alena
nodded, “I will.”

What a mess I
’ve got myself into. He used to be my boss and now this. Maybe the girls will help me sort things out tomorrow
, Alena thought to herself before focusing back to Gavin’s karate class.

Chapter 17

Alena, Lisa, and Jessica arrived at the restaurant. The trio ordered drinks and began to chat.

Lisa, I haven’t seen you in forever! Please give me an update,” Alena asked warmly.

Well, I’ve been seeing Kris,” Lisa chirped.

Wait, who is this Kris guy?” Alena asked.

Alena, you have really missed a lot,” Jessica chimed in.

I met him at the club. You know the night…” Lisa got quiet.

Alena
smiled, “It’s OK. I’m fine. Please don’t worry about it. So you met him that crazy night?”

Lisa
nodded.

After Royce had called Aaron, Aaron ended up shutting the club down early incase Blake came back to start more trouble. Aaron ended up knowing Kris and he told him to keep me safe until he knew exactly what was going on,” Lisa said as she blushed.

We just sat and talked and he was really nice. The next night, he came back and just paid Aaron to have me sit and talk with him,” Lisa said.

Wow. That’s crazy, Lisa. But you know you do have that effect on a lot of men,” Alena replied.

Jessica
grinned, “Yeah, just keep listening.”

Well, that’s basically it. He just comes in every night and pays Aaron to have me sit and talk with him,” Lisa said sheepishly.

Jessica
chimed in again, “And he wants to marry her.”

What?!” Alena exclaimed.

Not marry!” Lisa blushed.

He wants me to go on a date with him outside the club. He said until I will go he will just have to come by the club every night,” Lisa replied.

Are you going to go out with?” Alena asked.

Lisa
nodded, “I think so.”

Yeah, he also sent her flowers and jewelry and wants her to move in with him,” Jessica exclaimed.

Lisa, is this true?” Alena asked.

Lisa
nodded, “Kind of... I mean I just worry because I met him at the club and he’s also a lot older than me.”

Guys! Aren’t you excited we are graduating next semester,” Jessica suddenly interrupted.

Yes!” Alena and Lisa replied in unison.

I can’t wait to stop working at the club! Kind of like you guys now,” Lisa said.

What do you mean?” Jessica said.

Ever since you two got boyfriends you haven’t had to work,” Lisa replied.

Alena
smiled at Jessica, “So, tell me about this boyfriend!”

Jessica
blushed.

Well… I guess… um… Aaron and I …Wait!” Jessica stopped. “Tell me about you and your boyfriend!”

Jessica
grinned and Lisa giggled.

Oh my gosh!” Alena exclaimed.

No you go first I insist,” Alena replied giggling.

Aaron has been super sweet since I’ve been staying with him. He is very considerate and he said he didn’t want me to have to work at the club anymore. He said he was worried about my safety and he didn’t want me to stay at my house. He’s been paying my rent,” Jessica said.

Wait what? Oh my gosh. I have missed so much guys— I’m sorry. I should have been there to help you move,” Alena replied.

Its fine, Alena! Someone almost killed you we understand!” Jessica replied warmly.

Did your reservations about Aaron fade away?” Alena questioned Jessica.

Jessica
shook her head no, “I mean I am seeing this really sweet side of him but sometimes I think he is just such a sleaze.”

Anyway what has been going on with you and Royce?” Jessica questioned.

Well…” Alena blushed a little. “We are together uhm... very together if you know what I mean.”

Both girls stared at
Alena.

You guys hooked up?” Lisa asked.

Alena
nodded.

“Finally,” Jessica added.

“How was it?” Lisa questioned.

It was amazing but I am kind of scared. We are moving pretty fast. I mean he was my boss now he’s my boyfriend. I lost my virginity to him,” Alena sighed.

Yeah but you can tell he really cares about you a lot,” Jessica replied softly.

Yeah you can,” Lisa agreed.

I just wanted to finish nursing school and meet a nice guy who didn’t know about my past,” Alena replied.

Jessica
nodded, “But he still loves you anyway which is greater than meeting a guy who didn’t know.”

Alena
smiled, “You’re right.”

The three girls finished up dinner and paid their checks. They stood around outside the restaurant for a few minutes joking and talking for a little bit longer.

“Where did you park?” Lisa asked.

“I parked across the street,
” Alena said as she pointed to her car.

“We’ll walk you,
” Lisa replied.

Alena nodded.

“I don’t mean to freak you out but I have a weird feeling,” Jessica stated.

“Oh don’t worry about me. I’m going to call Royce and
look I’m at my car and nothing bad happened to me! You guys be careful, OK?” Alena replied.

The three hugged and said their goodbyes.

Alena got into her car and then got out her cell phone to call Royce.

“Hello?” Royce said on the other end of the line.

“Hey I just finished up dinner. I’m on my way home do you or Gavin need anything?” Alena asked.

“No babe,
we’re fine. I’ll see you in a few minutes?” Royce replied.

Yeah. See you soon,” Alena replied before hanging up the phone.

She put her phone away and then turned the key in the ignition.

“Huh?” she murmured to herself out loud.

She tried to turn the key again but the engine would not start.

She dug her cell phone out of her purse and dialed Royce again but this time he didn’t answer.

He must
be running around after Gavin
, she thought to herself.

Alena got out of her car
to go back to the restaurant.

It’s probably just my battery
or something but I shouldn’t be waiting alone out here
, she said to herself.

She shut her car door
and began to make her way back inside but was quickly stopped when a hand reached over her mouth and another painfully twisted her right arm behind her back.

“All alone
now are we?” A coarse, masculine voice whispered into her ear.

Fear welled in Alena’s stomach as she began to struggle wi
th the man. With one hard shove, he pinned her against the car. He turned her around to reveal a pistol in his hand.

“I wonder who will pay me more f
or you, Royce or Blake?” he grinned.

“Or maybe I’ll just keep you for myself
…” he said as he examined her beautiful face.
