“Okay.” What else could she say? This is my new normal, she thought.

“Oh,” Natalie added, “if you see John, tell him they’re roaming around the camp trying to introduce the Fahrayans to the world of bare-knuckle finance.”

Meaghan sighed. “Will do.”

She hung up the phone and turned to John. “You’ve got leprechauns out at your place trying to make loans to your people.”

John’s look grew dark. “Not for long, I don’t. Not when I get my hands on the little bastards.”

“You’ve met them?”

“Yes,” he growled. “I have encountered them before. They infest. Like rats.” He stood up and gave her a sad smile. “I have to go. King stuff to do.”

“Yeah, I have some gatekeeping duties to get up to speed on myself.”

They stared at each other for a long moment.

Meaghan pulled him close for a quick kiss, smiled at him, and then shoved him gently toward the door. “It’s not like either of us has the time right now anyway. We’ll get there. Go kick some leprechaun ass. I have reading to do.”
