In the middle of Abercrombie and Fitch, Jake pulled Davey into his arms and gave him an exuberant hug. “You’re worth your weight in gold. Any other paralegal would take three weeks to do what you did in less than a day. I’m so glad you tried to pick my pocket.” Jake laughed and threw his arm over Davey’s shoulder.

At Abercrombie they bought three pair of pre-washed, soft jeans—Davey thought they were a little tight—two pair of Dockers, some casual golf shirts, a few belts, underwear, T-shirts and a raincoat. They stopped at the Adidas store and picked up a new pair of sneakers. Davey was about to say something, then thought of
that look
and shut his mouth. Jake also slipped in some white T-shirts that were a size too small.

“Let’s go over to Barnes and Noble on Fifth. We can get your books there and have them delivered.” Davey sighed at the waste since he had perfectly good copies in his apartment. He wanted to get his spices too, but Jake told him they’d buy what he needed at Chelsea Market on Monday when they came back.

Late Thursday Afternoon in New York City

At four, Jake came to Davey with a sheath of papers in his hand. “This is a three month contract, outlining that I’m responsible for your room, board and upkeep. It specifies that you work for me and that I paid four month’s rent on your apartment.” Davey began to interrupt. Jake held up his hand. “It also specifies that if we don’t work out, you’ll pay me back. Read it and if you agree, we’ll sign it before we leave.”

Davey handed over the brief he’d just finished printing for the difficult case
.
“I was lucky. Danvers had a similar case and I remembered where to look for the precedents. There are five of them, all recent. You should be in good shape there. I also put a list of the precedents they might try to use against you and included answers from the law journals describing the five cases where the precedents were set.”

“You did exactly what you said you were going to do. That’s three briefs already finished. I was so lucky to run into you. Blake and Sampson traded gold for dross.” Jake put the contract down desk in front of Davey. “Tell me whether or not you’re going to sign so I know where to go from here.”

“I don’t have to sign as a submissive?” Davey asked, mentally wringing his hands.

“No, it just states that we are going to be together for three months so we can decide if we suit.” Davey took the two sheets of paper off his desk and read them carefully.

“It says I live with and work for you. I’m responsible for the cooking. It also says I live with you for the specified period of time which is three months. If we decide we don’t suit or I can’t be a submissive, I go back to my apartment but I still have a job with you or I can choose to go back to Mr. Danvers.” Davey’s eyes scanned Jake’s carefully.

“Yes, that’s exactly what it says.”

Davey picked up his pen, scrunched up his nose, and signed.

The car was in the parking garage where Davey’s life had changed so suddenly three days before. Jake took the remote and started the car and unlocked the doors as they walked over. Jake checked the back seat before he allowed Davey to get into the car. “Sometimes thugs break into the cars and hide in the back seat to hijack the car and mug you. Before you get in, always check. Chances are that they are hiding and won’t see you glance in through the window, if there is someone there, go to the kiosk and scream like hell,” Jake instructed.

“Uh…Sir, I don’t drive.” Davey was embarrassed. “I never had to, I’ve always taken the subway or the bus and since I didn’t leave the city it was never a problem.”

“There are driving schools in the city. You can learn. Here is your credit card. American Express sent it over by courier this afternoon. Do you have any charge cards that need to be paid off?”

“I have a Visa. It had a balance of two hundred dollars. I paid it off during the first months I was on unemployment. I figured maybe I wouldn’t be able to later. I was still hoping to find work soon then.” Davey sniffled.

“You’re very responsible.” Jake was amazed. “Not many twenty-five year olds have the sense to stay out of debt, especially with a job loss.”

“You forget I was a foster kid. There was no one to help me but me, so I had to stay out of debt and out of trouble. Wednesday was the first time I’ve been in trouble since I left the group home.”

Jake gave him another hug, “You have permanent work now, because of your performance today, no matter what happens to you and me. You’ll have a job here with me or one of the other partners.”

“Thank you, Sir. That means a lot to me coming from you.”

CHAPTER FOUR

Friday, late afternoon

Since they left at four, the traffic was heavy but still moving. The ride down to Princeton seemed to pass quickly in conversation. As they drove over to the Lincoln Tunnel, Jake asked Davey, “Where did you get your education?”

“I studied at the New York City College of Technology where I received an Associate’s Degree certifying me as a trained paralegal. They gave me a full scholarship for academic excellence, because I carried a four point oh average in high school. I also received several federal and state grants based on financial need, so I was able to afford room and board. I’ve lived in that apartment since I graduated high school—first with Harry and then after he left, by myself.”

“So why is the lease in Harry’s name?” Jake smoothly changed lanes and got onto Route 1.

“I had no credit rating or parents to co-sign the lease. Harry is older and went to school for Criminal Justice after flunking out of pre-law at Columbia. His parents paid for the Associate’s Degree hoping the police department would insist on further education. I went to City Tech because they offered me enough money to live. He went because he couldn’t get in anywhere else after flunking out of Columbia with, as Harry would say, an F minus.” Davey played with his seat belt. “The student housing department put us together, and then we found the apartment.”

“Stay still or you’re going to unlatch the seat belt and then I’ll have to spank you, sub or no sub.”

Davey tried to stop wiggling—but now he had a different problem. Jake said spanking and his dick reacted, immediately getting rock hard, which was strange.

“If Harry wants you to hold the apartment for him why doesn’t he pay half the rent?” Jake asked reasonably while turning on the headlights against the growing darkness.

“Because Harry doesn’t live there, I do. If he comes back we’ll split the rent and then he or I will find something else. Seriously, Harry has been gone for three years now. He wants a bolt hole if it becomes necessary. He worries about the rent because of his credit score. His name is on the lease. If I put it in my name, even now that I have great credit, the rent would be higher. I considered putting the lease in my name because Mr. Danvers said he was going to give me a substantial raise when he returned. I’m glad I didn’t. I barely made the rent this past year.”

“Couldn’t you have called Harry for help?” They came to a stoplight. Davey was looking at everything. “Your head is twirling around like a corkscrew.”

“I was never able to go on the school trips the other kids went on unless they were in the city and the school paid for lunch and transportation. If they charged money for the trip, for lunch or anything else, the group home wouldn’t pay, so I really haven’t been out of the five boroughs since before I was eleven.”

Jake shook his head mumbling about “…the inequities of the foster system.”

“To answer your question about asking Harry for help, Harry isn’t good with money and we were roommates, not really friends.”

Jake pulled off Route 1 into the Princeton area. “The Marriott Forrestal is located on a twenty-five acre campus minutes from the University. I’ll take you for a tour of Princeton on Sunday if you’d like. We’re here until Monday afternoon.”

They arrived at the hotel. The circular driveway was surrounded by autumn flowers—mums, asters, cannas and black-eyed Susans. Davey named all of them for Jake.

“How do you know the names of all the flowers?” Jake opened the trunk for the bell hop to take their suitcases.

“I used to visit the botanical gardens and the parks. With my student ID, the charge was minimal— only five dollars. I used to hang out there on Saturdays. I couldn’t afford the clubs or club clothes.” Davey shrugged.

Jake walked into the lobby and went to the concierge desk. “Your usual suite, Mr. Cohen?”

“With one difference, I’ll need a connecting room.”

“No worries, Edith called and said you’d need the adjoining room.”

Jake nodded and said in an aside to Davey, “Edith is a gem.”

They went down the hall and entered a beautiful suite. There was an open living and dining area and two bedrooms on opposite sides of the open space with separate baths. Each of the bedrooms and the living area had large flat screen televisions and a dock for an iPad or iPhone. Since Davey had neither, he didn’t bother looking. There was a quarter bath by the kitchen.

“Look sharp,” Jake said. “I’ve opened your suitcase and laid out the clothing I want you to wear on the bed.”

“Yes, Sir.”

“Tonight you will sit on a cushion under the table along with the other subs. I want you to get to know them and what they do. Each of the Doms is different, as am I. I will explain my tastes to you on Monday before we return.” Jake went into his room to get dressed.

Ten minutes later, Jake came out wearing navy blue leather pants and a matching leather vest without a shirt. Davey was waiting dressed in blue jeans and a white shirt. Jake carried a navy blue leather collar. “What is that? You want me to wear a dog collar?”

“This isn’t a dog collar, it’s a play collar, and its permanent replacement is the thing for which every sub strives. A friend of mine recently collared his sub with a braided collar of eighteen karat gold—one braid yellow gold, one red gold and the other white gold. There were matching bracelets. Each of them wears one. He was an Army Ranger and he saved for that collar and cuffs for years. His sub is Johnny Nyugen.”

“Adroit Systems? The software billionaire?” Jake went into the bedroom and retrieved the smaller sized T-shirt and told Davey to put it on. “I want everyone in the club to see how beautiful you are.”

Davey blushed but went dutifully back to his room and changed into the smaller shirt. It hugged his toned body. He put his belt back on, his new sneakers and presented himself to Jake for inspection. Jake took the play collar and put it in the pocket of the leather jacket that he slipped on as they left.

“Yes, Johnny belongs to Caden Donahue. He is the former Army ranger who got the braided gold collar.”

“Will I recognize anyone else?” Davey asked.

“Gary Sayer also belongs to the club.” Jake said smugly.

“You mean the former pitcher for the Yankees?”

“Yes, that Gary Sayer, he and his submissive came out on television a year ago. The rest of the subs are local, but are very educated men. Johnny, of course, has a double doctorate in IT and Electrical Engineering. Danny owns a nursery and is almost finished with his bachelor’s in horticulture and botany. Robbie is apprenticed to the club chef and attends culinary school. Jamie graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers, is a CPA and does our accounting. Greg is a psychiatrist, and Brian is Bear’s private investment counselor with an MBA in both IT and Business. He tripled Bear’s portfolio last year. Jim is the mother hen at Indiscreet. He owns part of the club and runs the back of the house, the kitchens, the waiters, and the house subs. He is fair and compassionate—but I didn’t tell you any of this, let them tell you themselves.”

Friday Evening

Davey watched the signs. They got off Route 1 and went to Route 206, and then turned onto Route 29. After Route 29 they turned onto another road with no streetlights. There an unmarked road turned into a driveway paved with brick. Up ahead was a huge farmhouse with barns attached to the house and then out of the corner of his eye he made out two newer additions shaped like ells.

The driveway was circular and there were five valets who made sure that no one had to wait. They left their car with Tim, as Jake called him, and went straight to the door.

Davey was amazed at the opulence displayed before him. The exterior of the farmhouse didn’t prepare him for the English club-like atmosphere. Except for the half naked boys on pillows on the floor they may as well have been in the Harvard Club. “This is the Dom’s dining room. It will get very crowded tonight. On Fridays most of those here gather to meet and mix but on Saturday and Sunday, the Doms like to play,” Jake said that with a secret smile.

“Tonight we’ve been invited to eat at Bear and Reed’s table. They own the club. The Doms will introduce themselves and you will bow your head and say, ‘Yes, Sir, thank you, Sir,’ et cetera and you’ll be fine.” He turned to the man at the door and showed him his card. “Hi, Dan. Can I have a white armband for my friend?”

“Yes, Sir, I’ll procure it immediately. If he doesn’t get one, you’ll be beating them off with a stick.” Dan chuckled.

“No, I won’t.” Jake pulled the navy play collar out of his pocket and fastened it around Davey’s neck. “This will protect him from encroaching Doms.”

The man Jake called Dan came back and handed him a white arm band which Jake tied around the fleshy top of his arm below his shoulder. He rolled the cuff of the short sleeve up so the white band was more easily seen against Davey’s golden skin. He reached over and put out his fingers artfully removing the covered rubber band from Davey’s hair. Davey turned and stared in the mirror across the foyer—he wore his hair long because he didn’t have the money to get haircuts. He didn’t wear it loose very often, but it seemed Jake liked it that way.

“Tonight you belong to me. Your white armband indicates that no one can either speak to you or touch you without your Master’s permission and tonight, I am your Master. The subs at our table are the ones I told you about earlier. You may speak to them. Listen to them. They know more about this life than I can explain to you. The sub club members are all good men and their Masters adore them. Just don’t let Brian talk you into getting a dog. He finds the dumbest mutt in the pound and that’s the one he takes. He’s great with cats though. If you want to keep a cat at our condo, I wouldn’t be averse to the idea.” Jake smiled, steering Davey to the dining room and watching as the Doms undressed his paralegal with their eyes.
