“Baby, that is so hot,” he said.

He knelt in front of her on the bed and watched as she
gently rubbed her clit and dipped once again inside her slick opening. The
orgasm building between her legs wasn’t nearly as thrilling as having him
observe her. His eyes moved back and forth between her face and her hand, which
continued to rub and caress her silky wetness. Her hips moved of their own
rhythmic accord.

She watched as his hand drifted down to his hard shaft and
rubbed his thick member up and down, keeping the same quickening rhythm. Nancy
hadn’t thought her arousal could get any stronger, but as his hand slid up and
down his length, the strings tethering her to reality pulled tighter and her
clit pulsed savagely.

She closed her eyes and cried his name on a gasp. The bed
shifted slightly, forcing her to open her eyes. Asher gazed intensely down at
her. Her heart beat hard and fast as she waited for him to move, but he hovered
over her for such a long minute that she thought he might be having doubts.

She lifted her hips and felt the brush of his cock against
her wet center. Her entire body pulsed with need.

Asher’s eyes closed.

“What’s wrong,” she asked.

He kissed her cheek, her nose and then her lips. “I just
want to savor this.”

She smiled as she wrapped her hand around his cock. He
moaned deep in his throat and she relished the unrestrained sound and the power
she wielded. When he moved forward, she guided him inside her canal. Her flesh
stretched uncomfortably, but the feeling was also intriguing. Her muscles
protested, even as her desire pushed her to lift toward him and take him
deeper.

“No, don’t move.” He slid forward and back again, giving her
time to adjust to him.

“So tight,” he said, gritting his teeth.

She raised her hips again, bringing him still deeper, and
moaned as her body strained to take all of him inside.

His mouth covered hers and their tongues mingled and swirled
together in the dance. Again he pulled back, leaving her feeling empty, before
slowly deepening the plunge. She felt full, but the discomfort had passed,
leaving the tremble of desire in its wake. Nancy became caught up in the tempo
as he rocked forward and back just enough so that he rubbed against her already
hypersensitive clit.

With each forward thrust, she moaned louder. His movement
grew bigger until he nearly pulled all the way out before sliding deep into her
pussy and out again.

Nancy wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him even
deeper. He groaned and plunged harder. Deep in her core, the strings that held
her together began to grow taut once again. Her pussy tingled with expectation
and her clit ached with need. She teetered so close to going over the edge,
where those threads would snap. His fingers slipped between them and he pressed
her needy clit hard, exposing the sensitive bud to the friction of their
bodies. His pelvis came forward, abrading those nerve endings over and over
again. She shattered as the orgasm overwhelmed and spiraled out of control,
while Asher applied more pressure to her clit. The sensations rolled and
crashed over her as he continued to thrust. He reared up one final time,
emptying himself inside her.

Asher took his fingers away while the orgasm still coursed
through, making her shake and gasp for breath. His arms wrapped tightly around
her, he rolled until they were both on their sides and she tucked herself
tightly against him. His skin was coated with a light sheen of perspiration and
he smelled of warm musk. She felt sheltered while her rapture overwhelmed every
logical thought. She shook in his arms, and he kissed her face and hair,
muttering softly about how wonderful and beautiful she was. He held her like
that until the vibrations passed.

She looked up at him.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I’m better than okay.” She felt the heat rising in her
cheeks.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you blush before.”

She turned her head away.

He kissed her hair just behind her ear. “That was wonderful,
Nance.”

“For me too.” Unable to stop herself, she yawned.

Asher laughed out loud and hugged her tighter. “Get some
sleep. We have a big day tomorrow.”

Chapter Three

Waking up with Nancy curled beside him flooded Asher with
feelings he’d pushed aside for years. She wasn’t the only woman in the
settlement at Mexico City half in love with Ian Scott. Most of the women were.
Ian saved the world when he saved Aileen. Everyone knew that. Asher couldn’t
even be too resentful of his friend’s fame, since Ian never asked for or took
advantage of any of it. He loved Aileen and never looked at any of the women
who gazed adoringly in his direction.

Not that Asher suffered from loneliness. He had plenty of
women who would have loved to spend time with him and he indulged himself on
more than one occasion. Nancy was special, tough and fragile with the face of
an angel, but she didn’t seem to have a clue of her own appeal. He knew that
several men had approached her, but she’d only had eyes for Ian until last
night.

He brushed the tangle of hair away from her face and studied
her. What had changed? Had last night just been gratitude for saving her?
Before he could ponder it any more, her eyes popped open and she smiled up at
him. Every thought but wanting her again flew from his mind.

“Good morning.” Her voice sounded scratchy from sleep.

His cock was instantly hard. Every fiber of his being cried
out to stay exactly where they were, make love until they were both satisfied
and fell back asleep in each other’s arms. Unfortunately, the situation
demanded they get moving again as soon as possible. This town provided a little
safety for the moment, but once other demons discovered the carnage he’d left
at the museum, they would start searching for the humans responsible.

“Mornin’,” he said.

“Is it late?” she asked.

“No. The sun’s barely up. We need to see if we can get some
provisions and a vehicle. It’s a long way.”

Her eyes narrowed at him. “To where?”

He shook his head. “You think I would try to take you home
without seeing if Robyn is alive? You must think I’m a fool.”

She sank back into the bed for a second before sitting up
and brushing her mass of hair out of her face with one hand. She leaned over
and kissed him quickly on the lips.

“I’m going to go wash up at the well. It may be the last
chance we get to be clean for a while.”

“I’ll come with you to keep an eye out in case something
rotting comes down the road,” he said, only half joking.

Her smile was sexy and shy at the same time. “You don’t want
to let me out of your sight?”

“Look what happened last time I did,” he said.

She frowned. “I couldn’t wait, Ash. Geoffrey said he saw a
girl who looked a lot like me. I just couldn’t wait.”

“I understand, but you should have held on until I got back
anyway,” he said.

She paused a long time before looking up at him again. “I
was hasty. I didn’t prepare well. I’m sorry for that.”

“I think you’ve paid for that mistake already, Nance. Let’s
get going. Once we’re cleaned up, we can search together for what we need. I
hope we won’t have to walk four hundred miles to Chichen Itza.”

“We’ll find somethin’,” she said.

Watching Nancy wash gave him a torturous hard-on. She’d
managed to find some soap in the little hacienda and brought it with her. She
brought her clothes with her, but wrapped herself in a bed sheet to walk down
to the square. She showed no modesty as she dropped the sheet and washed in the
middle of the street.

His cock jumped with every swipe of her soapy hands and his
jeans suddenly felt a size too small. “You’re killing me, Nancy.”

She smiled and looked over her shoulder at him. Soapy water
slid past the two dimples that marked where the sensual curve of her lower back
arched into her butt. The suds continued their downward trek, dripped from her
perfectly round ass. He wanted to kiss each one of those dimples and run his
tongue along the path of soap.

He watched the street in both directions. With only one way
in or out, these old towns were very defensible. Not that he was in any
condition to defend anything. His cock was pressing painfully against the fly
of his jeans and it was beginning to put him in a bad temper.

“Nancy, rinse off already and let’s get out of here,” he
said through clenched teeth.

She smiled, but did as he asked, dried herself with the
sheet and put her clothes on before tying her hair back in a ponytail.

He cleaned up quickly, never turning toward her, while he
willed his shaft to stand down. Finally dressed, he took the AK-47 from Nancy
and handed her the extra handgun he’d had in his pack with two full clips of
ammunition.

They had no difficulty finding several bottles to fill with
water, a small backpack and some spare clothes. Their other problem wasn’t as
easy to solve. Asher tried everything, but none of the cars in town would
start. With each attempt, the click of a key in a pick-up or trying to hotwire
two cars, the result was the same, the batteries were dead. No amount of
puttering with connections would change that fact. Asher cursed.

“I guess we’re on foot until we get to the next town,” he
said.

“It’s not far according to the map. This was a pretty
well-traveled road before 2012.” Nancy pointed ahead of them.

As they walked in silence for several miles, he noticed the
sun struggling unsuccessfully to break through the cloud cover. Finally, Asher
asked the question that had been troubling him for hours. “What do you think
the sacrifices are about? Never seen that before.”

“I’m not sure, but something is going on. The ancient relics
have some kind of significance for those demons. The ruins must have some kind
of power like the Avenue of the Dead. I hope we can get to Chichen Itza before
it’s too late.”

Asher remembered how the Avenue of the Dead at Teotihuacan
had allowed Mictlantecuhtli to build his power. He tried to push down the
memory of Mictlan manifesting on Earth and focused instead on the humans who
had killed the villain that day.

“It’s another pyramid, isn’t it?” he asked.

“Yes. Another pyramid.”

The memory of electricity filling the air made the hair
stand up on Asher’s arms. Mictlan’s voice had filled his mind during the battle
to reclaim the Earth. He had been on the Pyramid of the Sun with Aileen as she
shot lightning from her fingertips in order to bring Mictlan into the world and
make him mortal. Aileen, who had always been able to heal with her hands,
discovered that her gifts had morphed after the End of Days. Still able to heal
with a touch, she could also destroy with a thought.

Nancy had been with Ian on the Pyramid of the Moon. She had
been among the small band of people who had destroyed the devil with hammers,
knives and guns, and driven him from humanity’s realm. They had been foolish to
think it could be over. Humankind had been complacent where Mictlan was
concerned.

Their settlement near Teotihuacan, and what used to be
Mexico City before the End of Days, had grown to over five hundred people. Only
a small percentage of humans had survived the natural disasters that plagued
the world on December twenty-first, 2012. Others had been killed by the demons
that rose from Hell with the Lord of the Dead. The Mexico City settlement had
farmed some land and managed to pump water in from an underground aquifer.
Living in adobe style homes kept the inside cool in the summer and warm in the
short winter months.

For five years, the survivors worked toward creating a
thriving community. The occasional traveler spoke about other human villages
around North America that were also successful. Everyone pitched in and
everyone ate. It had worked out better than Asher had expected, but they should
have spent more time looking for trouble. They had given Mictlan the time he
needed to build up his power again.

“I thought he was gone forever,” Asher said. He assumed she
was thinking about the same experience.

“I did too, but maybe we only sent him back to Hell five
years ago. It might not be possible to destroy him. If you think about it,
there have been signs of him building up his strength again. We just didn’t
want to see them. There’s been more demon activity, people disappearing, crows
flocking and werewolves getting to the livestock.”

“I guess, but why go all the way to Chichen Itza?” He wiped his
brow with the sleeve of his shirt.

She offered him some water, but he refused, knowing that it
would be needed later.

“He may have thought he could sneak into our world and take
over without us noticing until it was too late. It may not even be him. We have
no idea how many opportunistic demons exist in the netherworld. Mictlan may not
even be the worst.”

A shiver ran down his spine. “If Mictlan, who created all
the shit that stalks the Earth since the End of Days, is not the worst Hell has
to offer, then we
are
in trouble, Nancy.”

“I agree. We’ve got to get there in time.”

He took her hand and squeezed it. “We’ll get there. I just
have to find some kind of transportation.”

She pointed to the horizon. “This is your chance.”

Ahead they could see another small town, though this one
looked bigger than the last. As they approached, the smell of rotting flesh
grew almost unbearable. Nothing could compare to the stench of human decay
festering in the heat of the desert. Asher’s stomach roiled as he pulled Nancy
off the road and into a ditch.

“What now?” she asked.

He thought for a moment. “We can either go around and save
our ammo or go through and kill everything in our path.”

“What if they have humans in there?”

Giving it some thought, he said, “Let’s do a little
snooping. If we don’t find humans, we move on. If we do…” He left the rest
unsaid, tapping the butt of the rifle in his hand.

They approached slowly from the north end of town, walking
in the drainage ditch along the side of the road to stay out of sight.

“No guards,” Nancy said.

“Overconfident bastards,” he bit out.

Keeping to the shadows, they entered the town, careful not
to step out into open areas. Nothing jumped out at them. There were no sounds
of reveling demons and none of the chanting of the village where he’d found
Nancy as they made their way deeper into the village.

An hour later, they had crossed through to the other end of
town. The stench increased, and in hopes of keeping down the meager contents of
his stomach, Asher had pulled his T-shirt over his nose and mouth. Nancy took a
shirt out of her pack to hold over her face. Flies filled the air as they
approached the source of the odor.

In a small square, the town boasted a relic like one of the
heads from the Olmec museum, but this one looked more like a totem made of
stone. Tied to the front were the remains of a woman. Whatever had done this
had sliced her flesh multiple times, letting her blood drain out onto the
ground of the small courtyard. Judging by the decay and disgusting odor, the
body must have been there for several days. He watched the buildings and kept
his gun ready to fire on any demons. None approached and no sounds emanated
from the buildings.

Asher looked over at Nancy. His chest ached, but he couldn’t
bring himself to ask the question.

Nancy looked up at him. Her complexion had faded to a
ghostly pallor and her eyes brimmed with tears. “It’s not Robyn.” Her words
dripped with both relief and horror.

Asher cut down the body. “No demons. It’s like they’re
making these sacrifices and then moving on.”

The scene had been so horrific that neither Asher nor Nancy
spoke as they searched the town for some kind of transportation. He continued
to think about why the town was devoid of undead and to wonder what Mictlan was
up to.

They had little time for sentiment, but Nancy’s eyes looked
lost and he wanted her back with him. “We’ll find her, Nance.” He pulled her
into a hug.

She nodded and wiped a tear from her cheek.

A quick search of an automotive garage turned up several
cars. With each click of their ignition, they discovered the batteries were all
dead. The search did produce several gallons of gas stored in a barn, but the
truck they found there wouldn’t start either.

Asher saw a glint of steel toward the back of an old storage
shed. He pushed some boxes out of the way, hacking and coughing as dust flew in
every direction. Tossing more trash and boxes out of the way, the Indian
motorcycle came into view. Hope stirred in the pit of his stomach as he pulled
several items, including a giant hammock, out of the way. Once he had a path
cleared, he rolled the bike into the street.

“What are the chances that thing runs?” Nancy asked.

He shrugged. “As good as everything else we’ve tried. I
figure it’s worth a go.” He brushed dust off the brown leather seat and admired
the black gas tank and fenders. “She was a beauty in her day.”

He opened the gas cap and poured in just enough to see if it
would start, checked all the connections and added water to the battery.
Curling his hand around the throttle, he fed the bike some gas. Then he climbed
on and stood on the kick starter. The engine fired for about three seconds
before it died. Asher fed it some more gas and tried again. Again it screamed
into action for several seconds before sputtering and giving up. The third time
he jumped down on the kick starter, the engine roared and roared louder.

He grinned over at Nancy. She smiled as she grabbed both
packs. Once he’d filled the tank with gas and remounted, she climbed on the
bike behind him and wrapped her arms around his waist.

He put the Indian into gear and they took off in a cloud of
dust, heading south toward Chichen Itza.

* * * * *

Night had fallen by the time Asher found a cave where they
could rest for the night. He figured they were roughly fifty miles north of
their destination. There was no point in showing up for a fight and being so
exhausted they couldn’t lift a gun. At least, that’s the argument Asher gave
Nancy when she tried to insist they press on right away.
