“Look you guys,” Kylie said to break the tension. “I’m sick of this. I wanted you both, and I like you both, and I can’t stand for things to be so weird between the two of you.

“Ya I know Kylie, but sometime these things are just beyond our control,” chimed in Jason looking a little exasperated. We both liked it as well, but with a baby involved I just don’t know how to act around you now.”

“We can’t both just be your boy toys from now on,” chimed in Max looking a little cold and sullen.

They didn’t go back to the class. Kylie sent a quick email to Jax apologizing, saying she’d gotten dizzy, and she thought she hadn’t eaten quite enough that morning. She certainly didn’t want to make Jax worried and tell her she shouldn’t train anymore.

She drove herself home feeling physically good, but starting to want more again. She was sore, in a great way, but felt a little empty—which was funny considering her little passenger.

Kylie was also a little taken aback by how Max and Jason had reacted afterwards. They were probably a little shocked they both wanted her so bad they were willing to share her right there in the gym where they could’ve been caught. They were right though. What they had was sexual chemistry between the three of them, which is fine if a baby wasn’t involved and they were free to play out the special sexual relationship they had together until it no longer worked for some reason. The stakes were so much higher now though. As much as Kylie wanted to keep her two boy toys, she knew it wasn’t going to be possible. How could anyone expect two competitive men like Max and Jason to share her peacefully when so much emotion and desire was involved. Kylie certainly couldn’t see herself being okay with the situation if the roles were reversed.

The next day, Kylie went into the Ultimate and cleaned out her locker. She hated to do it. She hated that she was being forced to give up something she loved again, but she knew there was no other choice. She hugged big old Ferran on her way out and handed him the keys. He looked a little sad, but also seemed like he understood. Jax probably told him about her pregnancy.

“You should come back here when you are ready, okay?” Ferran said with a tender look and voice that was hilariously out of place on such a hulking brute of a guy.

Kylie was sad to go, but knew she needed to get away from Max and Jason if she was going to have her life ready to welcome her new baby into the world.

Round 6*

The Los Angeles county amateur MMA tournament came up two months after she said goodbye to Ferran and the gym. Kylie joined another gym in Santa Monica to keep her training going, but it wasn’t the same. Getting away from Max and Jason had an amazing effect on her life even though she felt like she missed being with them. She certainly missed the sex. She focused on setting up her life with the baby. She talked to her work about the situation and they were being more than helpful. One of the reasons she took the job was the amazing benefits package they offered. A year's maternity leave plus help paying for daycare for single mothers. The building she worked in even had an amazing daycare built into it, and the space for her baby was already saved for when she needed it.

Her mother was already planning on being with her as much as possible. Where before the thought of having her mother around so much would cause her to shiver, the thought of having someone with experience taking care of a baby around made her feel even more ready. It was with all this stuff taken care of that Kylie decided it might be time to check in with her old gym friends. She certainly looked pregnant now, but Kylie also didn’t feel the need to keep the secret anymore. Most likely, it wasn’t a secret at all.

The whole crew turned out to support Max and Jason who were the only two fighters competing this year from the Ultimate. The tournament was open to all weights and classes so depending on how the night went, there was a chance they’d be going head to head. Kylie didn’t know if she could stand to watch the fight if it actually happened, but part of her wanted to see it as well. Two fighters who she respected going toe to toe with each other in a real fight in a real cage match.

Kylie walked into the packed auditorium and soon heard her name called out. Jax, Trisha, and Ferran were all standing and waving to her. When she finally got to them there was nothing but happiness and hugs at seeing each other. Even Trisha, who Kylie felt might be a little pissed at her for just walking away without even telling her the reason was only happy to see her again. Truthfully, everyone understood something big was happening and respected her enough to give her the space to deal with it. If it wasn’t for Max and Jason going to the gym as well she probably would’ve called to cancel her membership at the gym in Santa Monica right then, but that wasn’t the case. Ferran told her that the two of them had been at the gym more than ever. Working harder than ever. Their sparring matches getting more and more ferocious leading up to the tournament.

“They are ready for this,” Ferran said as the lights went down for the first match of the night.

The first match was one of two female matches that night. There weren't as many woman doing this as men so there wasn’t enough participants to justify an elaborate tournament structure, but as the women stepped into the octagon Kylie could tell they were focused and ready to push themselves to the limits. The first fight was between two women in the same weight class as Kylie, and she couldn’t help but want to compete.  Would she be up there herself at some point? When she first started the idea of competing never occurred to her, but the more she trained herself (even with her baby bump) and the more she watched the other women fight, she thought maybe she could do this. She watched the fight and sized up the two women taking mental notes and listening to Jax and Ferran’s comments about the one girl’s hands. The way kept them up to protect herself but also strike when an opening showed itself. Jax even predicted the end of the fight within the first ten seconds when she commented on one of the girl’s footwork.

“That’ll lose her the fight,” she said.

Sure enough, mid-way through the second round the girl tripped a little allowing her opponent to land a clean blow ending the fight before she even hit the mat.

The next fight lasted a little longer with the decision going to a woman Kylie felt she could’ve beaten.

Next up though was the start of the men’s tournament matches. There were 16 guys competing in total. One loss and you were out with the winner taking home a brand new truck and $55,000 dollars this year. The tournament was known for being especially hard and gruelling since it involved the winner having to compete and win four matches in a row to take home the prize. Sometimes the winners of the matches only turned out to have to drop out before the next match having taken too hard of a beating to step into the ring for the next fight. Two years out of five the winner of the tournament didn’t even need to fight in a final match as the other opponent had to drop out after barely winning the semi-final.

The tournament was set up by random draw and the whole row of people from the Ultimate cheered as the matches were posted and they saw that Max and Jason were put in different sides of the bracket. If both of them won their next three fights, then there could be two fighters from the Ultimate facing off for the championship.

In the octagon cage, Jason was the first to go and battled a Hispanic man whose name she didn’t catch. She admired Jason’s body, all slick with sweat as he warmed up and shadow boxed in his corner. The other man seemed a little intimidated and didn’t move as quickly. Jax said within the first 10 second the other fighter was making a lot of mental mistakes and it didn’t take Jason long at all to take his feet out from under him and pin him to the mat. The man tapped out before Jason could break his arm. Not that he would’ve. The fighters and refs were all skilled enough to know when someone was trapped and locked in a position where someone only needed to apply the right kind of pressure to break a bone. That was what Jason did the best. If he got in close to someone there was no one better at twisting his opponent into an unnatural position leaving only a little movement of the hand to tap out with. The whole fight was over in less than 30 seconds, and Jason didn’t have a scratch on him. He would be ready for the next round.

In Max’s first fight, the man made the same mistake of not knowing the type of fighter he was up against. He couldn’t get out of the way fast enough from Max’s onslaught. From the moment the bell rung Max charged towards him landing punches as soon as he was in reach. The fighter he was up against tried to back away from Max’s huge frame and rapid punches but there was no where to go, and with 22 seconds and about 5 quick but thundering hits to the head the man went down and the fight was over. Max did take a few small hits in the onslaught but was none-the-worse for it. That was part of his style of fighting. Jason fought with skill and tactics, Max fought with intensity and strength, trying to make every swing a knockout blow.

Jason’s next fight was a little more difficult. It was against a massive hulk of a man. He looked about the size of Ferran, but certainly younger, faster, and meaner. Kylie thought quickly that Ferran probably did look like that when he stepped into the ring, but it was hard imagining kind old Ferran as a charged up fighter.

The first round saw Jason take more than few hits to the face as he tried to trip up the huge bulking man. His opponent tried desperately to land a knockout blow, but Jason was able to slip away every time one was thrown landing kicks and punches as he did. Both Jason and his opponent entered the next round a little bloody. In the second round, the massive fighter looked a little tired, a little slower, and it didn’t take long for Jason to slip under one of his punches and take his opponent to the mat quickly putting him in a submission hold that would’ve snapped anyone's arm off if Jason wasn’t as skilled as he was and using these holds.

Victory to Jason. He looked good and cocky up there, strutting his stuff.

Max’s second fight was against someone that fought like Jason did. It didn’t last too long though as the other fighter underestimated how fast and agile Max actually could be and just when it seemed like the other fighter saw an opening and was going in to take Max down, Max’s right knee came out of nowhere taking out his opponent in one blow. Probably Max’s plan all along.

In the semifinal round the room was getting tense. Everyone had now had a chance to really see what all these fighters were like and from what Kylie saw, Jason and Max both had tough fights ahead of them. Both of their opponents looked and fought like them. It was going to be a test who could fight their particular style better.

Jason’s first round was as technical as expected with both fighters taking turns twisting in an out of offensive and defensive moves and holds trying to checkmate their opponent into tapping out. Only the experts in the crowd like Jax and Ferran could really see and understand what was going on between the twisted mash of bloody and muscled bodies. In the second round, the result was the same. The room was growing a little silent, but Kylie and the rest of the crew from the Ultimate were on the edge of their seats and cheering Jason on.  The whole auditorium jumped out of their seats though halfway through the third and final round as Jason got an arm free and started pummeling his opponent in the side. As soon as the other fighter moved and slacked his position an inch to block Jason’s punches Jax quickly screamed out, “you got him Jason.” She knew the fight was over and could probably tell what Jason was planning the whole time. Jason suddenly twisted around his opponent like he was no longer a human but a snake and was now behind him and had the man’s neck bent and strained in a way Kylie was sure could kill someone if that was Jason’s intention. That fight was over and Jason was in the final.

Kylie was so happy for Jason she wanted to cry. She ran to his dressing room to congratulate him. When she got there she could see the strain the last fight had put on his body. His right shoulder was red and swollen. Apparently, during the fight his opponent almost did him in through an arm hold that almost dislocated his shoulder. Kylie grabbed an ice pack and lightly pressed it to that area. Jason winced a bit.

“I’ll be ready for whoever I fight next,” he said with a cold determination Kylie had never heard from him before. He sounded confident and sexy. Holding the ice pack to the shoulder Kylie embraced him with her other arm not caring about the sweat at all and stretched her neck up to kiss him on the cheek.

“You are doing great. You’re stronger than anyone expected you to be.”

“You know I could say the same about you.”

Kylie had her arm around him as they left the room to go watch Max’s fight.

The fight had already started before they reached the fighter’s entrance to the auditorium where they could see the octagon cage. What they saw was a completely different battle than Jason’s. The crowd was going crazy and it was mayhem in the cage. Max and his opponent were taking turns storming at each other giving everything they had to each other. Punches, kicks, elbows, one or two headbutts. This was turning into a battle over who could stand the abuse the longest. The mat was marked with drops of blood all over the place when the bell finally rung ending the first round. Max looked marked up pretty bad.

“Don’t worry about Max,” Jason said, “he’s fine. I think I know what he’s up to and has him right where he wants him.

The bell for the second round rung and Jason turned out to be right. Max’s opponent rushed at him thinking Max was going to do the same, but at the last second Max ducked and grabbed the other fighters leg, lifted him in the air and twisted him around so that when he landed with a crunch there was no way he could move and had to tap out before he found his leg broken from the hold Max had him in.
