“Sage,” he said after raising his lips from hers. He ripped
her shirt open before shoving the barrier away. “You’re going to be sore when
I’m through with you.”

“Mmm.” She clung to him, her arms circling his neck,
pressing her body flush to his.

He wanted to redden her ass cheeks, fan her desire and make
her pussy slick and hot for when he slid inside. Instead, he chose to hold her
close and flatten her breasts against his chest, sliding himself over her tight
nipples. “I wish we had more time.”

“We have hours,” she whispered close to his ear.

“This time, yes. But I’m talking about days, months,
years—privately exploring your body, testing and teasing you.”

“Ohh,” she groaned, “what would you do to me?” She wiggled.

“I’d restrain you and spend an entire day stripping away any
modesty left in you. I’d gently torture your pussy, bringing you close to
climax before stealing it away. I’d spank, pinch and paddle you until you
begged me to fuck you.”

“Yes, oh yes.”

She sighed and rolled her hips. Indeed, she’d been made to
play the role of a meek to the proper Master. “I’d have you many times,
stretching you and pumping hot cum into your pussy. And if you behaved
throughout your ordeal, prior to us retiring for the night, I’d let you come.”

“Oh yes!”

“You’d have a nice, thick implement in your ass. Your
nipples would be clamped and maybe even your clit. By then, your pussy would be
swollen and I’d have to use lotion on my dick to get inside. Imagine the
burning,” he said, grabbing her ass cheeks, thrusting his erection against her
abdomen. “Imagine the painful pleasure of me buried in you to the hilt. Imagine
me allowing you to come.”

“Jacob!” she said, digging her nails into his shoulders.

“And you’d love it.” He rolled her onto her back before
sliding over her.

She wrapped her legs around his waist.

“Would you like it? Tell me, Sage.”

She tried pulling him closer but he remained above her,
waiting for a reply.

“Yes,” she conceded. “Yes, yes, yes. Oh please!”

“Please, what?”

“Fuck me, Jacob. Now. Hard.”

He slipped his cockhead into her saturated pussy. She
tightened around it, rhythmically squeezing and contracting. “You haven’t been
given permission to come.”

“Ugh!”

“You mustn’t come until I allow you.”

She groaned as she loosened her legs. Her vaginal walls,
however, continued squeezing him. A strangled cry escaped her lips as her hips
jumped beneath him. She couldn’t wait. Not this time.

He slid completely into her, hoping some discomfort might
help get her under control. She sucked in a huge breath before a long, fretful
moan emerged from her throat.

In truth, he couldn’t wait either. “Now. Come for me.”

She crushed his waist with her legs as her nails dug into
his biceps. He withdrew enough to give her room to move. She humped him more
effectively than he could’ve imagined with her on the bottom. In less than a
minute, her hot, convulsing pussy pulled him into a blinding, scorching climax.

When her strength began to fade, he pinned her to the bed
and fucked her in earnest. He’d never come so long or hard and it seemed to
have no end. He indulged in the lust-driven motions of his cock, satisfying
something far greater than a sexual release. He ached to claim her, make her
his alone before their time together ended. There’d never been anyone so
perfect in his life. Not even Deedra.

He thrilled with the responses from the strong-minded woman
who’d been in a position of power. His next breath depended on him giving her
enough pleasure to erase the six men who’d disappointed her. She deserved…love.

“Come for me, woman!”

She panted as her arms lay on the bed. To his delight and
dismay, her vaginal walls contracted and clung to him as her back arched
beneath him.

“Take me.”
Accept what I’ve been unable to give anyone
else. Please, feel the overwhelming emotions pouring from me.

“It hurts.”

It hurts me too, but we’ll be stronger when it’s over.

“Obey.”

He flattened the head of his cock against her cervix, unable
to gain another centimeter. He wanted to become one with her, meld their bodies
together. She cried out as he came, gushing streams of cum as deeply as he
could. She twisted beneath him, crying as her orgasm took control, heightening
until she screamed through clenched teeth. A hot burst of liquid squirted from
her urethra, wetting his pubis.

“Beautiful, sensual creature. That’s it. Come for me. Oh
yes, come for me.”

The gift of her cum delighted and touched him deeply. “Ride
it out,” he said, pumping his cock in and out while his erection lasted.

She relaxed after being well sated. He too had reached his
fill. He’d never had sex like that—quickly and without taking the time to
thoroughly arouse the woman.

He lay beside her, missing their closeness. He placed his
hand on her thigh before stroking her labia. She’d grown swollen as if he’d
used her for hours. She purred while he explored.

He penetrated her softness with a single finger, taking
pleasure in their combined juices. He’d never enjoyed a woman more. If their
lot had been different, he could spend the rest of his life with her. What type
of children might they produce? Would his Domineer blood win in a genetic
contest? Would his Raven blood dictate a child’s outcome? Certainly by mixing
his genetics with a normal being, Ryker’s child might avoid the disastrous
traits he’d inherited.

In all, the feature from his father that’d made him a hunter
hadn’t really hindered him. Not in the scheme of things. Many of the instincts
coming from his mother came in handy when leading his people. No, he’d nothing
to complain about.

He withdrew his finger from between Sage’s legs, turned her
and cuddled her. The sigh she issued echoed his contentment.

“Is what I feel normal?”

He smiled. “What do you feel?”

She yawned and shuddered. “Peaceful. Happy despite probably
dying in a few days. Unconcerned with my previous position at Bastillous.”

“Good sex can do that.” He stroked her arm.

“Is that all this is? The aftermath of some good sex?”

No, my sensual, red-haired woman. It’s a great deal more.

He tightened his hold. “You’ve been anxious, tense, not
knowing what to expect. You’ve been angry about being thrust into a situation
you never remotely considered. You’re overdue for a reprieve. You found one.
Don’t question it. Enjoy it.”

Silence stretched before she whispered, “Jacob?”

“Yes?”

“If you’re trained to be a hunter, why haven’t you killed
these bastards?”

“A tiny nano chip implanted in my brain keeps me and the
others from murdering every single one of them.”

“Why do you think the plan in the arena will work?”

“There won’t be a direct physical altercation. Those outside
the arena will set the fire and bar the doors.”

“Can they do that? Wouldn’t the chip prevent them from
starting a fire that will ultimately harm their captors?”

“It’s not that complex. Compare it to setting a trap. We can
place the trap knowing or hoping one of them will die in it. Where we’re
limited is in direct altercations. Do you follow?”

“Somewhat. How will your people deal with the remaining
guards?”

“They placed the transmitter emitting the signal that
controls the chips in the arena. It was an area never used. We haven’t had
access until now. In Sovereign’s mind, holding the event there would be the
safest place. Its signal would be strongest to make sure I kill only you. If my
people can hold on long enough, it’ll burn. Once it’s gone, so is the signal.
The remaining guards should be disposed of quickly.”

She squirmed until she rolled to face him. She rested her
palm against his neck. “If I go into the tunnel—”

“When, Sage.
When
you go into the tunnel.”

“All right, when I go into the tunnel, you said you’d bring
down a fixture. By then, the room should be on fire and the doors secured. How
will you defend yourself? I’m assuming the transmitter won’t be destroyed
before most of the people in the arena are dead.”

She shouldn’t be so distressed. Not after what they’d
shared. “Shh, woman. Keep your voice low.”

Her hand trembled. “If you can’t fight, once they realize
they can’t escape, they’ll rip you to shreds.”

“It’s not your concern.”

“It is! You know we’ll probably be killed anyway. Why would
you sacrifice yourself? Think of some other way.”

“If you’ll close your eyes and let me sleep, I promise I’ll
give it more thought.”

“Swear to me?” Hope infused her words.

“I swear.”

“Yes,” she said, snuggling closer. “A sound sleep has helped
me in the past. We’ll come up with another plan. Something better. Something
where no one will die. Except Sovereign and his men. Bastards.”

“Sage?”

“Yes?”

“You need to stop speaking in order to sleep. You’re winding
yourself up.”

“Oh, sorry.”

He let his limbs relax as Sage sagged against him.

Yes indeed. This is the single most important thing I’ll
do in my life. Sage must live. Somehow I must ensure her safety
.

Chapter Ten

Sage lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling as potential
solutions to their problem rolled through her mind. Over the past several days,
Jacob had spent hours in the front courtyard, practicing with the whip.
Regardless of how skilled he might be, if he accidently grazed her, she’d lose
a lot of flesh. Would it come down to him needing to throw a few times in her
direction?

Lost in thought, she jumped when someone banged on the door.
She scrambled to sit and drew the covers to her chin. Heat swung the door wide,
ducked and entered the room. She scanned the surfaces of furniture, seeking a
weapon. Nothing seemed adequate. Despite Jacob’s obvious friendship with the
gargantuan, the mere sight of him raised the hair at the back of her neck. The
natural smirk he wore did nothing to soften his appearance. In every sense of
the word, the man was a predator.

“Jacob’s miss,” he said politely, nodding to her.

She stood and offered him a greeting, never taking her gaze
from him.

He cocked his head to the side and his smirk broadened into
a smile. “I’ve been given the honor of taking you for a walk. While Jacob
continues to play with his toy, he’s given permission for me to escort you.”

“While I appreciate the offer,” she replied, straightening
her posture, “I’m quite comfortable here.”

He tossed something at her and she caught the soft material
before it landed on the floor.

“These belonged to my woman. I thought perhaps you’d be less
inclined to refuse if you were properly clothed.” He scanned her from head to
toe. “And while Jacob’s shirt becomes you, I’d hoped the traditional Bendolian
attire might tempt you from these rooms.”

The soft pants and softer shirt made her decision easy.
“Excuse me while I change, Sir.”

“Of course.” He pulled a chair from the table and seated
himself.

Sage entered the relief area and sighed as she slid the
garments over herself. After so many days forced to swallow her modesty, the
concealing clothing allowed her to feel normal, in control.

When she emerged, Heat stood and stared at her. Eventually,
he turned toward the door and extended his palm. “Jacob’s miss?”

She walked to him and hesitantly took his hand. He drew two
slippers from his pocket and threw them on the ground at her feet. After
putting them on, she was escorted her from the room, down the stairs and out a
back door.

Although the light from Prevelor’s sun shone brightly, the
breeze held a chill. As she was covered sufficiently this time, the temperature
was more tolerable.

They walked in silence and she studied the landscape. Sparse
trees dotted the countryside with an abundance of low-lying bushes. “What about
the felines?” she asked. The bushes could hide many creatures.

Heat pulled something from his pocket and tapped it with a
finger. “Detection and alert device. Sovereign permitted me to have this. Do
you swim?”

Baffled for a moment at the change in subject, she
eventually said, “No.”

“I’ll keep you near the shallows, then.”

The leisurely pace of the walk in the sunlight did strange
things to her. She turned her face to the sky and soaked in the rays. Held
captive, walking alongside the huge man, as well as having her impending death
hanging over her head, she couldn’t remember a time in her life she’d been more
alive and peaceful.

“Jacob was correct,” Heat said.

“About what?”

“You comply. You obey. You behave as requested. Yet under it
all, you’ve somehow managed to hide the anxiety you feel.”

“I have no choice.”

“You have great control.”

“I’ve needed it where I come from.”

Heat released her hand and allowed her keep pace with him on
her own.

“I have a question for you,” she said.

He grunted.

She took the noise to mean she could ask. “Are we being
watched? Can we be heard?”

“If they choose, they can follow our movements. Jacob said
for me to take you to the lake so we could speak openly. So, no, they can’t
hear us.”

“Why didn’t Jacob bring me?”

“All eyes remain on him. Most are fascinated with how he’s
preparing to kill you. While rumors of your intimacies with Jacob are
noteworthy, they’re anticipating your death even more. There hasn’t been much
bloodshed over the past several months. Your demise will bring them great
happiness.”

“Gee, thanks. Great to hear.”

Heat laughed and she gave him an additional few feet of
distance. Even a happy sound coming from him wasn’t reassuring. They crested a
hill and she stopped in her tracks. A vast shimmering lake with soft lavender
ripples lay before them. The beautiful water with lush purple vegetation
surrounding it stole her breath.

“You’ve grown quiet, Jacob’s miss. I didn’t mean to upset
you.”

“No,” she said, taking in the majestic beauty of her
surroundings. “I’ve never seen anything like this.”

He placed a gentle hand on her back and eased her into
motion. “You’ve lived a sheltered life. Many worlds have bodies of water such
as this.”

“Prior to my recent excursion, I’d been to two planets. One
was my home. From what I recall, most every centimeter of it was occupied. When
I hired into Bastillous, I seldom left the compound.”

“You’ve no interest in nature?”

“I’d no time.”

They neared the water’s edge and Heat gestured to a rock.
“Sit. Take off the slippers and cuff the bottoms of the pants. Walk the edge of
the lake. Let the waters soothe you.”

She did as requested, wondering how long she’d be able to
stand the brisk water. Even the boulder she sat on sent chills racing up her
spine. Once her feet sank into the purple sand and the water washed over them,
she smiled in delight. The water wasn’t warm, it was hot.

“Mmm,” she murmured, letting the small surges of liquid wash
over her feet and ankles.

“Sometimes simple pleasures mean the most.”

“Yes,” she said, turning her face to the sky and closing her
eyes. “I never realized.”

“If you wish to go deeper, disrobe and walk into the water.”

The dream-like peacefulness vanished. “No. No, thank you.
This is fine.”

“It’s not as if I haven’t seen you, Jacob’s miss.”

While he spoke the truth, she’d no desire to strip naked in
front of him.

“Do you suppose,” he said, leaning against a boulder,
crossing his ankles, “Jacob would’ve allowed this if he had reservations about
trusting me?”

She glanced at him and lowered her gaze. “No. I don’t
suppose he would’ve.”

“Then rest assured, I won’t harm you. I won’t rape you. I
will only protect you.”

The conviction in his words eased her mind. Somehow, because
of his height and mass, she’d neglected the fact that he must’ve proven himself
to Jacob. Under any circumstances, she doubted the task of gaining Jacob’s
trust could’ve been easy.

She stepped from the water and walked across the silky sand
until she stood before him. Even with him seated, he dwarfed her. “I don’t know
what’s common in your world. I see, however, I’ve insulted you.”

He chuckled but his eyes narrowed. Though he smiled, she
could see the emotion beneath. Studying him more closely, she believed a great
deal lay under his gargantuan exterior and grinning lips.

“If I escape the arena,” she began, “and I make it below
ground, will I then be yours?”

“No.” His usual smirk turned into a lethal frown. “Once
Sovereign’s reign over Prevelor is broken, you’ll be a free woman.”

“Jacob said the others may try to claim me.”

“They could, which would result in your detainment. If you
refuse after five eves, they must release you.”

“So not all your women are captives?”

“None were prior to Sovereign.”

“They signed up for the whole
slave
routine?”

“Meek,” he said through clenched teeth.

She hadn’t meant to goad him.

“You’ve reaped no rewards in Jacob’s care?”

Her cheeks blushed and she found she could no longer
maintain eye contact. Indeed, he’d woken her body and mind to cravings she’d
never imagined existed. She’d never felt more freedom than in his arms.

Heat’s shoulders relaxed as he rested on the rock. “The
truth is in your eyes, Jacob’s miss. Forgive me for not understanding your questioning.
Of course you have limited knowledge of our ways. I won’t forget that in the
future.”

She rubbed her hands over the beautiful garments he’d
provided. “Did your miss…”

She couldn’t finish asking because of the pained expression
on his face. She’d merely wanted to thank him for the use of the clothing.
Instead, she’d upset him.

“I met her when I first arrived on Prevelor. I came here to
work, nothing more. Jacob educated us on the Bendolian way of life. While I
learned, I never believed a woman would entrust herself to my care.”

She wanted to ask why. She suspected it had a great deal to
do with his size. Looking at him differently, she wondered if he sometimes
didn’t hide behind his appearance to keep people at bay.

“But she did,” he said, sighing. “And the bastard Grimm
ended the happiest year of my life.”

I’m so sorry for you.

“And now,” he said, tucking away any trace of emotion,
“he’ll end Jacob’s newfound happiness too if we don’t work together to forge a
different plan.”

She smiled, more than ready to voice some possibilities.
“I’ve been thinking about that. Can you run down what will happen the eve after
tomorrow?”

He sat upright. “They’re expecting a landing party. If I can
believe rumors, no more than three or four of your peers will be here from your
company.

“None of them should be here, not under these
circumstances.”

“He told me of the mineral they seek and its importance.”

A sudden gust of wind chilled her to the bone. She wrapped
her arms around her stomach.

“Perhaps we should head back,” he said.

“In a moment.” She rubbed her upper arms. “From my limited
knowledge, this sort of thing would be considered a big event. That’s why
there’s so much excitement, correct?”

“Yes, Jacob’s miss.”

“Do you think they’ll feast prior?”

“Most certainly. Your company provided a great many
delectables.”

“Where will the food be prepared?”

He raised his brows. “A central kitchen. There is also a
massive communal hall. We used it for celebrations. They’ve used it as a mess
hall.”

“So, everyone will be fed?”

“More than likely.”

“What about the true inhabitants of Prevelor?”

“We’re always given what’s left.”

“Fantastic!”

He slid from the rock and stood before her. She took a step
back, not because she feared him. She did it in order to see his eyes. “Do you
have access to poison?”

“Not enough to kill them.”

“Do you have dreengadda weed here?”

“No. It’s illegal.”

She studied him, looking for the truth. “Of course it is.
Yet I’m told it’s abundant on almost every planet if you look in the right
places.”

“Besides,” he said, placing a hand on his hip while leaning
onto his left leg, “it’s not a poison.”

“To be sure, but when blended with sweet foods, such as
desserts, it’s nearly undetectable. I’ve sampled it a time or two. I’m not
quite sure what happened in the ensuing hours once its effects kicked in.”

His smirk broadened into a smile. “While it wouldn’t kill
them, they also wouldn’t be able to fight. Is that your thinking? Brilliant.
But that doesn’t resolve one large issue. We can’t harm them. Not while the
transmitter remains active. And there’s no guarantee every last guard would eat
what we laced with the dreengadda.”

“Has the transmitter been placed in the arena?”

“If possible, it will be tomorrow.”

“Troublesome,” she said, trying to calculate a plan to
overcome that obstacle. “Do you think in a very small quantity, the drug might
allow you to overcome the programming of the chip?”

“Doubtful.”

She rubbed her forehead, searching for an answer. “Are there
any others on Prevelor who haven’t had the chip placed?”

“Several at best. Mostly women. After Jacob took them from
Sovereign, they’ve hidden amongst our ranks.”

“All right then. We’ll work with what we have. Once enough
of the guards are incapacitated, those from Prevelor will gather their weapons.
They’ll be given to the women. Guards will be led away from the arena and
killed by those without the chips. Am I correct in assuming you can help in the
guards’ demise without actually completing the task?”

“Yes, Jacob’s miss. That’s true.”

“So it will be up to us to decrease their numbers.”

He motioned for her to place the slippers on her feet. “We
should return.”

She wiped the sand away and slipped them on.

As they walked, he said, “That still doesn’t solve Jacob’s
or your dilemma. Drugged or not, the masses will gather. Weapons won’t work
within the arena. That leaves you both defenseless.”

“Speak to him. Convince him to come into the underground
tunnel with me. It won’t matter if they follow. Just as we’ll emerge somewhere
in the distance, so will they. They won’t have a choice with a fire burning
behind them. When they climb up from the ground make sure you have the women
ready. We can pick them off, one by one.”

“Or by then, the transmitter should be destroyed. We’ll take
care of any who follow you.”

“Well, see there? That sounds doable.”

“Doable?”

“Yes, doable. Able to be done. Accomplishable.”

He shook his head, smiling, and gently grasped her hand.
They neared the large stone structure and she stopped. “Heat?”

“Yes, Jacob’s miss?”

“What’s happening to him?”

He stared at the building, a strong gust blowing brownish
hair into his face. He concentrated on something. “I don’t know. I’ve never
seen a man’s eyes turn black. I’ve never known him to have such problems
speaking clearly. Something is influencing him. Something extremely abnormal.”
