It was a couple of weeks before graduation and I was so excited even with being 8 months pregnant and all. Dragon and I were set to move into our brand new home right after I finished up with my last final this morning. I don’t know if I was more excited for the move or finally being done with school or for that matter being 8 months pregnant with a 4.5 GPA and also the first female in my family to ever make it this far.

      Dragon went all out when I told him the news of my GPA. He came and picked me up from school as usual. When we pulled up in front of our home, there was an all-white 2016 BMW 7 Series all chromed out with a big ass red ribbon around it. The interior was white leather with black stitching with hers and his headrest. I jumped out the car screaming and jumping up and down because I knew it was for me. Shit who else it could be for. Dragon started shouting at me

“Yo girl cut that shit out. You have my baby girls all up in you. Plus, I’m not even done yet.”

Dragon shouting at me in a stern voice was a first so I straightened right the hell up. I mean he was right we’d been having so many complications trying to keep the babies from coming early. The doctors even had me on bed rest but being as though I wasn’t and Dragon damn sure wasn’t going to let me end school this way. I only had 2 months left before graduation so he drove me to and from all appointments along with driving me to my classes. We figured if I could just get to graduation without an overnight stay at the hospital and be able to hold the babies in, we’d be in greater shape and closer to the due date. So I calmed my happy ass right down. I took Dragons hand and followed his lead into the house. We walked thru the entryway into the foyer he surprised me with the white marble floors we argued over when we first spoke with the contractor.

“Wow! Baby see it’s beautiful and it makes the space appear larger don’t you agree?”

I asked Dragon while hugging and kissing on him.

“It really wasn’t me. The contractor came here with his Ipad with some type 3D application of the room with the white marble and the black. I couldn’t say no plus with the marble and slate kitchen it was no question.”

Dragon said to me.

    There were two high back Queen Ann white chairs sitting in the foyer in the center of the double stairway. The whole home was done in white and gray marble. Once you reached, the top of the stairs, in the middle of the hallway was the double doors leading into the girl’s room and it was more than I could ever imagine.

Faith & Hope was carved on their bedroom doors. Their room was filled with pink and lavender with the base coloring being white. Their cribs were in the shape of big swans connecting by their beaks Dragon had the center of the wall behind the Swans beaks painted a blush pink just so you could see the heart that’s made by their connecting beaks. The beds were big enough for them to sleep in until they’re about 5. Dragon had white plush shag carpeting on their floor as I walked across the floor my feet sank right into the carpet. It felt like I was walking on clouds. Each of the dressers had their names engraved in them with mirrors in the shape of crowns. They even had their own changing stations designed by none other than their father he believed his girl’s deserved nothing but the best just as well as me. As we walked through our home, I saw that Dragon had most of our clothing, etc. there already. Desiree, Dragon second to the oldest sister, stood at the front door directing the movers to where everything belongs.

The more we walked through the home, the more I got excited to the point my stomach started to cramp up. Dragon thought it would be best if I sat down for a minute. But before I had a chance my water broke. Dragon didn’t freak out like I thought he would. He did the exact opposite he swept me off my feet and took me straight down the steps and out the house. He took me out to the Range and laid me down in the backseat. He rushed back into the house to grab the keys there was no need to worry about our overnight bags, Dragon kept an extra set in his Range. I would make jokes about him toting around a double set of overnight bags

Dragon would say “well you never know they can come any given Sunday.” He shouted over to Desiree to hold everything down at the crib with the movers and rushed me straight up the expressway to New York–Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. The doctors told him he got me there in just the nick of time.

The labor pains were coming left and right the doctors repeatedly told me that everything was okay because I carried the girls almost the full term. Before I knew it, I was holding Faith and Dragon held Hope in his arms he even asked the nurse to take our first family picture marked February 17, 2015. I was released from the hospital with Faith & Hope a week later. Luckily for me, all finals were done and I had passed them all. The only thing I needed was to get myself together and back to normal. I needed to be ready in every way to walk across the stage and receive my BS in Marketing.

Dragon hired his younger sister Desiree to work for us. Desiree is going to be the girl’s nanny helping me out with them and some chores around the house.  Desiree and I have been thick as thieves since Dragon and I first started dating. She stood 5’8” most men called her a tall glass of water. Desiree was natural. Her hair, nails, and beauty were all natural. There was no need to rock a weave with her natural bush. We always joked about her being Leela James twin sister. I knew if we could trust anyone with our precious angels it would be her.

Dragon was due to pick us up from the hospital as soon as the Doctors discharge the girls and me. I knew something was up with him because he’d usually stay the night at the hospital with us. But last night he told me he needed to take care of some things out in the streets. He was going to settle a few things and he’d check back in the morning.

    I started blowing up Dragon’s phone around 8 am. After back to back phone calls, he finally answered.

    “Hey Babe, what’s up?”He answered on the first ring.

    “Baby, where are you? I thought you would’ve been here by now.”I responded.

    “Babe, I’m in the middle of paying Rico off. I’ll be there. Did the Dr.’s come in and see you yet?”Dragon asked in an aggravated tone.

    “First off good morning to you too. And secondly I don’t know what’s going on with you this morning but I didn’t do it. Thirdly, yes the Dr. did come in and he’s getting our paperwork together now. We should be ready for discharge in about an hour or so. I was just calling to check up on you since you didn’t call. That’s all. Baby, I’m getting myself and the girl’s dressed. We’ll see you whenever you get here I love you and see you soon.”

    I said to Dragon before hanging up. I was not going to give him another chance on snapping at my ass again. I knew something was bothering him last night before he left. When I asked him if he was ok or if he needed to talk about anything, he just said it was nothing he couldn’t handle. One thing for sure I didn’t have to worry about him dealing with every hood rat in the city.

    I waited patiently for Dragon to pick us up. I had just finished getting Hope ready when Dragon walked thru the door. He had four dozen roses along with a big ass kool-aid smile on his face. Just as he leaned in to kiss me, I mugged him. I mean with a fully open hand palm in all.

    “Don’t be trying to walk up in here and sweet talk me with some 2, 4, 6,8,10, 12, 14 what’s that 48 roses?”

I asked Dragon as I nicely pointed and counted each rose while laughing. But I didn’t expect him to clap back at me.

    “Um yeah right all these roses ain’t for ya ass anyway. You only have twelve my Lady Hope & Faith also have a dozen a piece and there’s even one for the nurse. Aww, look there're Daddy Princesses.”

    Dragon snubbed me and kissed Hope on her forehead.

    After kissing Hope on her forehead, Faith started cooing.

    “I sense a little jealousy already Babe.”

    I said to Dragon as I stole my kiss from him anyway.

Dragon started strapping Hope into her car seat when the Dr. walked in with our discharge papers. The resident Nurse offered to help us downstairs to the car after Dragon presented her with a dozen roses. She was kind enough to grab our things since she was getting off. She waited with me while Dragon went to get the car out of the parking garage. I smiled as Dragon pulled up in an all-white 2016 Infiniti QX80. He hopped out, walked over to me, and said.

    “Your new chariot awaits you, my lady.”

    Dragon said to me as he grabbed and hugged me.

    “Now that’s one hell of a push gift Baby! But what happen to my car?”

    I said exactly what I was thinking and feeling at the same time. I felt hella stupid after saying it. Nevertheless, my Babe made me feel much better with his response.

    “You know it. I was thinking of something sportier. But the lady at the dealership said this was the family car to get. You know for you and the girls. She also told me if she could afford it she would have it her damn self. Babe don’t worry your car is in the garage at home brat.”

    He answered me while laughing. He finished putting the things in the trunk and then double-checked the girls to make sure they were snapped in tight. Now any other time he would be speeding thru the city. Today it was different you would think he was in a funeral line or something.

“Baby you can drive a little faster you know. I trust you babe lets get home and start our beautiful family.”

I said to him with a smile. Dragon and I both started laughing because as I was stating the obvious cars behind us started to honk on their horns, to the point they startled the girls to the point they started to cry.

You see I never really had that family setting and I always dreamt of it.

    I thought to myself as Dragon started to speed up a little.

    Growing up I would watch the Cosby Show and I would say to my Momma that’s going to be me one day.  When I met Dragon, I just knew in my heart he was my soul mate. There were plenty of times when I thought I was going to lose him. Here we are now with a beautiful home and two precious little angels. In a couple months, I’ll be a college graduate with the highest GPA in my family. On top of all that Dragon just paid off his connect. Things are looking up for us. Dragon is due to graduate at the end of August and he’s already looking at retail spaces to open his store. He had enough money to make his dreams come true. So it would only be right to open up some stores in N.Y.

Desiree was standing by the front door waiting for us to pull up, so she could help with the babies. She ran out to the SUV quickly swinging the doors open because it had started to rain. We all went running into the house. As soon as the front door shut behind us everyone shouted: “Welcome Home Russell family Surprise.” Dragon and I were definitely surprised Desiree put together a surprise meet & greet for Faith &Hope. Desiree did such an amazing job putting it together she had my momma there along with their parents. I loved going over to Dragon parents home when we first dated they accepted me with open arms.

His father would say to me.

“Girl you going to be the one to change my boy and I thank you in advance.”

Between both of our families including all the things Dragon and I had already bought the girls were set for almost three years. Our home was filled with so much love and laughter that evening. I extended an invite to everyone for a little BBQ I wanted to have a couple days after graduation. Thankfully, we had Desiree working for us fulltime because I received a phone call from the head of Blue Fountain Media, asking if I would be willing to accept an offer a couple weeks before graduation. I knew things would be tough but between Dragon, me. With us now having Desiree working for us thankfully, I knew we would be able to manage. In addition, to me being finish with all my classes, it wouldn’t be that much of a hassle.

*Chapter Five*

Savannah

    Time was flying it was time for Faith & Hope 2-month Dr. Visit and a couple days before my graduation. I was always antsy when it came to my girl’s visiting the Dr., especially when getting their shots. Dragon was up getting Hope & Faith ready while I was preparing our breakfast. As I was fixing our plates, I could hear Dragon laughing saying again, again. Dragon came running bursting into the kitchen with Faith and Hope in his arms.

    “Babies say it again for Mommy.”

    Dragon said to the girls with a smile on his face.

    “Dada!”

    Faith said. Following right behind her Hope started giggling.

    “Dada!”

    Hope shouted out.

“Baby this is the Best Day of my life! There’s nothing I won’t do to protect them. Trust me when I tell you. If somebody would’ve told me a year ago, I would feel this way, when they told Dada I wouldn’t have believed them.”

Dragon walked over and kissed me.

    “Savannah Thank you, baby, seriously.”

    Dragon said.

    “You’re very welcome my love and thank you, Baby. Now can you be so kind to sit our princesses in their thrones so they can try something new to eat?”

    I asked Dragon with a smile.

    He set the girls in their high chair while still playing and repeating after them. I loved seeing him interact with them. We could’ve sat at the table all morning long playing with the girls. But Dragon noticed how much I was procrastinating and time was passing. He started to laugh while shaking his head at me.

    “Savannah, snap out of it babe, we got to hustle now let’s get it.”

I quickly ran upstairs to jump in the shower. I grabbed my bag with my Vicki essentials in it and jumped in the shower. After washing and fighting with my hair to get it in the perfect bun, I bumped my bang a little. I figured since we’re just going to the Dr’s. I would throw on something simple and comfortable. I threw on my dark blue Levis jeans with a button up Polo shirt. After taking up twenty minutes just to find the perfect J’s to match the colors in my shirt to a T I was now ready to go. We arrived at the Dr’s office almost twenty-five minutes early. Dragon and I decided to use the Pediatrician his Momma took him to when he was younger.  At first, I couldn’t believe he was still in business but it was a Family Practice. Ms. Rachal wasn’t trying to see or hear anything else otherwise.

We were greeted with smiles and a lot of love every time we walked into Dr. Thompson office. The registering Nurse always made sure we were in and out in due time.

    “Hey, Mama how are you and the family love bug?”

    Nurse Maya asked me as she stood a little to see over the desk to sneak a peek at the girls, in their car seats. She finished her conversation with the receptionist and grabbed the girl’s charts.

    “We’re good and yourself Maya? When did you start working here? Miss Lady, I see ya left hand have a paperweight on it. Can you even lift it? Damn girl, I see you…”

I asked Maya with a wink. Maya and I have known each other since we were kids. Now she’s engaged to Dr. Thompson Jr. We used to kid around when we were kids, Maya always said she’d marry a Doctor and I would always claim that my Husband would run for Mayor or President.

    “Never better, Savannah, you and Dragon, can take the girls back into room 3. You can go ahead and get the girl’s undressed. I’ll be in right behind. We can chitchat then.”

    Nurse Maya said to us.

Dragon pushed the girls back into the room while I signed us in. By the time I reached the room he already had Faith undressed and down to their undershirts. Maya walked in and grabbed Faith and placed her on the scale to take her weight. Maya started to admire Faith telling Dragon and me how she favored me when we were younger. Dragon laughed while he held Hope, who was fussing. I smiled as I watched him bouncing her up and down. I walked over to grab Hope.

    “Here baby I got her.”

    I told Dragon as I reached my arms out for Hope.

“Ya’ll are just the cutest little family. The girls are perfect. Sit tight Dr. Thompson will be in shortly and you’ll be out in a flash.”

    Nurse Maya said to us as she was closing the door behind her.

Just as Nurse Maya said there was a knock on the door and Dr. Thompson entered the room with his clown nose on. I thought it was a cute gesture for the children when I first met him. Ms. Rachal said their office has been doing the nose thing since she’s known them and he’s the best pediatrician around. The girls loved Dr. Thompson and so did I. After the visit we decided to hang out and do some shopping with the girls. As we were leaving the mall to grab a bite to eat before, we went in for the evening.

We ran into Tameka as we were coming out of Queens Center. Dragon spotted her saying Miss Tameka looking fine as ever. We haven’t seen her since we had the girls Baptized. I truly missed my girl she’s been on the road on tour opening up for one of them hip-hop groups. We decided to have a late dinner with Tameka since we were getting ready to drop the girls off to Dragon parents.

    My girl Tameka still had it going on. Tameka stands 5’3” kind of reminded me of Foxy Brown the rapper from back in the day. We stayed with all eyes on us when we used to go out. We were thick as thieves from day one. After we had graduated High School we attended Berkeley together. We didn’t really lose touch but when she got her big break she took it and ran.     Dragon and I dropped the girls off to Mrs. Rachal. There really wasn’t a need for us to stop at home for any clothes for them, being as though Miss Rachal has them stacked for when they’re there.  We shot across town to the crib so we could freshen up and change. Dragon and I couldn’t wait to sit back relax and kick our feet up, with our friend who brought us together.

    We met up with Tameka down Midtown Manhattan at “Butter”. Dragon knew this was my number one spot to eat. You never knew what famous person would be coming through the door next. We originally planned to just meet up for some cocktails. Instead, we ended up eating a whole meal reminiscing about old times. Tameka started to talk about my upcoming graduation ceremony tomorrow afternoon, hell she would’ve been walking down the aisle right along with me if she hadn’t got signed. It was almost time for Tameka to start heading to the airport to catch her plane. Dragon offered a ride to the airport but she had a car en route to pick her up. We’ve could’ve talked for hours, shit I was thankful for her little 8 hour layover. There were times I missed sitting up and chopping it up with my home girl. It was getting pretty late so Dragon and I decided to just head home so we could take it down or so I thought. After all, my graduation was tomorrow morning and I couldn’t wait.

When we pulled into our driveway, Dragon did his usual routine. But this time, after putting his key in and unlocking the door he turned to me and kissed me. He carried me across the threshold into the house. There were candles lit with rose petals all throughout the foyer.  Dragon put me down once we crossed the threshold and told me to follow the trail of rose petals upstairs. The trail of rose petals led me up the stairway and into our master bath.  Dragon already had my girl Tamar Braxton song “If I don’t have you” playing in the background.

He came up behind me and started to unsnap my blouse and kiss me on my neck. Dragon came up with the idea of us both wearing all white for brunch and the graduation ceremony. After playing around all morning, I finally was up in out the bed.     “Hello, Savannah. I will be your make-up artist for the day.”

The lady said to me.

    “Hey, Savannah I’m Shirley I’ll be your hair stylist for the day.”

    Another woman shouted from the left side of the room.

“And my Queen I’m your King. I will be your stylist for the day.”

    Dragon said as he dropped the cloth off of a rolling rack.

Dragon had a pair of all white Giuseppe’s stilettos along with an all white Espey clutch. To top it off he had an all white Zac Posen original made just for me. He said these were some of the gifts for keeping up my GPA and maintaining it while still running the streets with him. After getting dressed, we both checked each other out before stepping out the front door. Dragon’s whole persona changed as soon as I stepped out the front door. It seemed as if his thoughts ran straight from him. Leaving him hanging Dragon was at a loss for words. I could tell by his automatic erection, he was ready to strip me of all my clothing and have me at his will in the middle of the driveway.

“Hold ya horses baby we have all night for that Boo, Plus Mom and Dad are keeping the girls remember. We can do whatever you like.”

“Look at God I have two beautiful girls and the Baddest Woman in N.Y. with an all time high GPA. I’m the luckiest man alive.”

Dragon stated as he reached out to hug me.

I giggled as I kissed him back. We ended up going to eat at the Central Restaurant. Close to the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey where the Ceremonies were going to be held.

    After finishing, we drove over to the ceremony space. The setup for the graduating class was done beautifully.  This graduating class wasn’t as big as Berkeley usually is but the 87 grads that sat amongst me I was proud of every last one of us. I could see Dragon, the girls, his parents, and my mother in the audience. As the Dean called my Name Savannah Renee Sunders, I could hear Dragon and our family screaming. Then all of a sudden, I could hear someone slurring “That’s my Baby!” As I looked thru, the crowded auditorium to see exactly who it was my heart fell to the pit of my stomach. It was my Father. To tell the truth I hadn’t seen my father in over sixteen years and didn’t really care to see him. After the ceremony, I ran straight to Dragon and our babies screaming I did it. I threw my arms around them and began to give them all kisses. I could see my father trying to make his way towards us so before I could say anything that I may or may not have meant I looked over at Dragon and said

“Baby let’s get out of here. Lets began this thing these here people call the legal life.”
