The need to vomit reared up my throat again as I stepped out of her reach, half tripping over the bloody stool as I clutched at the kitchen counter for stability. I couldn’t breathe. I was so panicked I was lightheaded, lights bouncing before my eyes until I could barely see.

Hot tears were burning my eyelids, my nose clogging with the need to release them, but I would not give this bitch the satisfaction of seeing me cry.
