“Believe it or not,” she said, “I never expected you to see that.”

“It’s almost as adorable as you,” he said, studying it for a long moment.

“And just so you know, it doesn’t say ‘kitten’ because of you or anything.”

Lifting his gaze, he cocked his head to the right, looking doubtful. “Then why does it say it?”

“Because I am one. A sex kitten.”

He leaned his head back in a laugh. “That you are, honey.”

“A sex kitten for my big, sexy secret agent man,” she purred, returning to the afterglow of
passion to exchange a long, lingering kiss that left them both sighing when it was over.

“One thing, though,” he said. “About me being a secret agent. Would it bother you if I quit?”

She blinked. “Are you kidding? That would thrill me.” She felt a little selfish as soon as the
words left her, but didn’t recant, since it was true. She hated the idea of him being in danger
like they were on the island.

“Good. Because I’ve been giving it a lot of thought, and everything inside me feels done with
the secret agent biz. I’d still like to stick with investigations—it’s about all I know—but I was thinking about trying to make a PI business float. And if I decide that’s too iffy, I can look into
staying with the Bureau in another capacity. I’ll explore the possibilities and find the right
path.”

Still sitting in his lap, she slid her arms back around his neck. “That’s exactly what I want for
you. And I know whatever you pick, your grandpa would be just as proud.”

“I think you’re right,” he said, sliding his hands back up her outer thighs. “All he ever wanted
was for me to make something of myself and be happy. I made something of myself. Now I want to be happy.”

She gave her head a coquettish tilt. “I’ll see if I can help with that.”

“Wanna make me happy, kitten? Call Nina and tell her you’ve got other plans tonight.”

Kat knew she shouldn’t do it. Nina would be livid. And rightfully so, since it was probably as
hard to have a birthday party without the birthday girl as it was to have a bachelorette party
without a bride.

Unless, of course, she explained that it was because she’d just had wild, writhing sex with her
own personal FBI agent and island lover, and was about to have a lot more of it. That Nina
would definitely applaud. “Okay, you talked me into it.”

He grinned. “And then after that, you can tell me what I can do to make you happy. ’Cause I’m
on a whole new kinda mission here—keeping my little kitten happy and satisfied.”

Kat bit her lip, remembering the very first moment she’d seen him walking up onto the shore of
her island, and said, “I think we need to get you an eye patch.”

He raised his eyebrows, understandably surprised. “Oh?”

“I’ve got a serious pirate fantasy. And Dad will probably have to sell the island soon, so we
don’t have much time.”

He laughed, leaned in to lift a hot little kiss to the spot just below her ear, and while he was there whispered, “Avast ye lusty wench.”

Kat giggled, letting her eyes fall shut with fresh pleasure, then forced herself up from his lap to
find her phone and call Nina. But then she paused, remembering the pieces of stone they’d let
fall into the grass beside the car seat, and stooped to find them. “I wonder...” she said, holding
them in her palm, then looking to Brock. “Do you believe in that kind of thing? Legends?”

He tilted his head and flashed a sexy look. “This started long before I found that pendant,
kitten. In fact, I think it started right in this car seat ten years ago. But if those bits of stone gave
us the help we needed to get here, then sure, I believe.” He swatted her bottom lightly. “Now
hurry up and make that call so we can go inside and play lusty pirate games.”

“We don’t have the eye patch yet,” she reminded him.

“Don’t worry, kitten. I can ravish you just as well without it.”
