“Jane I found the taser and your not going to believe it.”

“Sir that’s some good news then but why is that going to make me not believe it? Was it not the one registered to Jack then?”

“No it wasn’t registered to anyone it has been logged to this station but not checked out. Which means it should have been in storage but it’s not.”

“Ok I’m picking up from your tone that you believe either Thaddeus walked into our station and collected his own taser, which I’m highly sceptical about him pulling that off. Or we have an inside man who passed him one.”

Jane studied her Superintendent’s face for a reaction to either of those statements.

“Ok I’m guessing from your silence that you are leaning more towards the latter?”

“Well aren’t you I mean the idea of Thaddeus being able to walk in here and back out again when every member of staff at this station and the public knowing what he looks like is beyond reasonable belief. But an inside man doesn’t seem like such a far fetched idea. We already know that Thaddeus plays a powerful mind game look at all the family’s from before and what he talked those dads into doing.”

“Your right there is no denying it. It’s the most reasonable and rational conclusion from the evidence.”

At that precise moment Ian, Amy and Perry had walked back into the station. All Jane could do was look into the eyes of all the people she called friend, colleague and Perry her love. A little bit of Jane’s heart died in that moment that the thought of one of them betraying her.

“Jane what’s the most reasonable and rational explanation of the evidence? Why are you just staring? Jane what’s wrong?”

Amy tried to break through as Jane’s mind was spiralling into a panic dive. Thaddeus was out and coming for her and one of these people were helping him. But who…

Chapter 13

Jane couldn’t believe what she was thinking, what her Superintendent had suggested. Jane had no idea what to do she suspected all of them including her Superintendent; they all could have their reasons for helping Tha
ddeus. It all made sense now from Thaddeus gaining Jane’s phone number and extension code, to learning where she lived, the taser everything. Jane didn’t know whom she could trust but she needed her team to still be able to work this case.

              “Jane what is going on?”

“Some evidence has led us to believe that we have an inside man. Someone in this station that is helping Thaddeus. And I don’t know whom. I need time to think time to breathe. Let’s go home. Were discuss all new details in the morning before heading to the new crime scene. Get some rest I’ll see you all here at seven.”

With that Jane walked out of the station before any of them could stop her to ask more questions. Thankfully Perry had followed her cue and trailed after her to his car.

“Jane we need to talk about this. I hope you don’t think it’s me?”

“We do need to talk Perry but not here. Where are we staying tonight?”

“I thought we could stay back at my apartment tonight if that’s ok?”

“Yeah let’s go.”

Jane and Perry drove in silence the tension flaring between the two of them. Jane was beginning to get nervous and flustered knowing that there was probably going to be some confrontation between the pair of them. For the past seven months or more they had been running on pure chemistry, the sex was out of this world. And now they were about to approach their first issue as a couple and Jane couldn’t comprehend how that was going to go. She had a load of questions to ask Perry and a load of information in her head that she couldn’t make sense of. Jane was going into sensory overload on top of everything to do with Thaddeus. Jane did not want tension and doubt brewing between her and Perry, or herself and her team. Once Perry had parked the car within his gated drive he took Jane by the hand and led her into his apartment to his couch.

“Ok Jane just breathe. I can hear the cogs turning in your head and your brain going into overload so just relax. I want you to start at the beginning every single doubt, issue or fear that you have about me I want to know. So I’m not going to say anything I am just going to sit here and listen and when you’re done I’ll try to answer any questions and put any issues to rest that you may have ok. Don’t worry about making me angry or upsetting me it’s not going to be an issue. So when you’re ready go.”

“You are a bigger player in this area than what I ever realised. You know too many people and have too much influence over those people still to just have been a drug dealer. I was naive to keep that belief for this long. Does Frank know how high up the chain you go?”

“No he doesn’t I am a silent boss I always have been it’s how I have always operated. I still get seen as a low drug dealer and no one ever looks to closely. It keeps me and my son in less danger if none of my business enemies know who is at the top.”

“Smart move I suppose so how much of the boss are you still?”

“Not at all I handed over the reigns to my right hand man he has become the silent boss. He knew what role for the police I was going to be taking and we were hoping to use my position to get rid of some of the more low lives in the business. We don’t just sell drugs parts of the company are becoming legitimate and legal were slowly moving the company forward but in your eyes the money that built us come on the back of other peoples addiction.”

“Ok so you are going to be using the police force, the police force I work for and love to take out people in the drug world that you don’t like, so you can legitimise your company?”

“Yeah I know it’s hard to believe but I told you from the beginning I want out of the game. And I do want to talk to young kids about not getting into the wrong path but I did fall into it so I have to use the business skills that I got from it to make my life. My idea was to sell out the people to Frank that I didn’t want and within the year my business will be able to go completely drug free and be legitimate.”

“Ok so does Frank know that that is the plan?”

“He knows I have a specific list of people that I am willing to give him and that is it. As far as he is concerned the rest of the names and people I know I wont sell out for my safety.”

“Ok this is a lot to take in and is different to what I was expecting to hear.”

“I know Jane and I am asking a lot from you to trust me. But I honestly am trying to change my life so I can be good for you. You have to believe me I have nothing to do with helping Thaddeus.”

“That is one thing I do know and believe Perry. My fear is that with all your associates and ties looking for Thaddeus that you are going to get to him first and that Thaddeus will not be walking away from that. And I don’t know how with me being on this side of the law how I am meant to feel about that.”

“I’m just glad you believe I’m not the one helping Thaddeus. The other part is a little more complicated. There is no way that it can be linked back to me. If any of the people that I know find Thaddeus and kill him then good. I won’t be shedding any tears about it he will have been eliminated and the threat against you will be over. I will be by your side helping you and your team the best I can to catch Thaddeus in a legal fashion. If we manage to get him locked away again good I can live with that. All I want is you safe Jane.”

“Ok I don’t like it but I wont ask you to change it. Now it just leaves us with the question to beg who has been helping Thaddeus?”

“Look I understand that your not going to like it but your right there is no point asking me to change it because I wont. Keeping you safe is my main priority. But I can say if anything does happen to Thaddeus I have nothing to do with it. I can also assure you that I am not in the business of killing people I never have. Being all honest I may have taken a few fingers and toes from money owed but that is it. Now this is going to be something else you’re not going to like hearing but I have to ask. Has there been any more help to Thaddeus since Jack died?”

“Not that I know of but your right I certainly don’t like what your insinuating with that question.”

“I know but I don’t like the thought of it being anyone on your team. But if it was Jack at least Thaddeus help is over. I mean think about it Jack could of easily given Thaddeus your work line number and your address. He could of taken the taser from the station and when you went out to your apartment and he went off to meet with the bomb squad he could of snuck of to give the taser to Thaddeus, and then Thaddeus turned on him. Killed Jack to cover up the fact that he was helping him. It’s just a theory but I can’t think of a way to prove it.”

Jane and Perry sat in silence both having heard and said a lot. Jane was trying to come to terms with everything that she had learnt. Jane could accept whom Perry was she had done that from when they first met. And Jane believed Perry when he said he was trying to turn his life into something good. She perhaps didn’t like the way he was going about it but she could live with it. And as much as Jane hated to admit it his theory about Jack helping Thaddeus did make sense. Jane didn’t like thinking badly of Jack but at least like Perry said the good in it means that the help for Thaddeus has stopped.

Jane started to form an action plan in her head as to how she could prove Perry’s theory. First thing tomorrow when she gets to the station Jane decided that she would ring through to their phone provider and get her line and extension code changed but she would leave the trap and trace in place.  The only personnel that would learn the new number would be her Superintendent and the rest of the members of her team. If Thaddeus manages to ring through to her personal line again they would learn that Jack wasn’t the one helping Thaddeus. And that they still had a spy within their mix. Jane hadn’t realised how long she had been silent for and she could see the concern
growing on Perry’s face. The thought hitting him that he had lost her.

“Jane are we going to be ok?”

“Were going to be fine Perry. I just want all this over with like you. Come on I’m starving lets get something to eat. I’m ready for a kip already.”

“Come on then I have got some pasta and a bottle of wine that we can have.”

The time passed in a blur of eating, drinking, talking and laughing. Jane had been beginning to forget how carefree time with Perry could be. After everything that they were going through they needed this. Perry took Jane by the hand and led her off to his bedroom. Perry took Jane’s face in his hand and continued to stare into Jane’s eyes. Her suspicion was that he was looking for any sign of doubt but Jane had none. She moved closer and locked lips with Perry. The kiss was soft and sensual. Jane completely surrendered her mouth to Perry’s invasion. Perry carefully began to peel Jane from her clothes without removing the presence of his lips from hers. Perry peeled of her bra revealing her ample breasts that felt so good to be free from the enclosure of her bra and nestled so gently into the caress of Perry’s hands. Perry had managed to free all of Jane from her clothes and was steadily loosing his own. When he was finished stripping he picked Jane up with ease and carried her to the side of the bed. He laid her down with great care and stood back to admire Jane in full view. As he came back he took Jane by the legs and spread them so he could nestle closely between them. Taking his prize and time he slowly slid his full erection deep into Jane before checking to see if she was ready. Jane let out a short sharp gasp of shock and Perry stilled himself. Letting Jane’s body readjust to the intrusion of his throbbing member he retook Jane’s mouth with a deep excited kiss. When Jane swivelled her hips to grind against him in the seductive way she knew so well that drove him insane with wanting. He knew she was ready for him to resume the pounding he needed and wanted to give Jane. The panting and the deep breaths soon began to build up as the excitement and pleasure began to overwhelm the both of them each time that Perry drove his erection into Jane. Jane’s body was beginning to clench and spasm as she came to orgasm from each of the movements that Perry made. As Perry was standing at the side of the bed thrusting into her so he could make the best of the view and use the leverage he slowed his thrusts so Jane could ride him with the movements of her own hips through her orgasm. He began to play with her clitoris milking each groan and gasp of pleasure from Jane so he could guide her back over the edge for the second climax. Perry could no longer control himself and continue neglecting his needs. The excitement in the pit of his stomach had begun to bubble over that he needed to pound away into Jane. It was Jane’s turn to milk Perry of all the fluid he was emptying from the depths of his testicles. They collapsed back onto the bed in a pile of satisfaction and contentment and drifted off to sleep.
