THE DEVIL’S PROMISE
“Nothing else can break the promise to the devil. You must help us or we’ll never be free of it.”

ANGELMONSTER
“I saw no one but him, dreaming or waking.
I fell in love so madly, I almost did not recognize it as love.
It was madness and nothing else.”
The story of Mary Wollstonecraft and Percy Bysshe Shelley is one of the most famous love stories of all time – passionate yet volatile, heart-warming yet heart-breaking – and the backdrop to the writing of the world-famous novel Frankenstein.
“Those in search of a good story need look no further.”
The Guardian
“A haunting story, beautifully written and rich in historical detail.”

VICE AND VIRTUE
“It is clear you have the attributes required for a secret existence – suspiciousness, distrust, the desire to interrogate, the need for constant confirmation. And you have the wit to think your way out of any situation. You will make a most excellent spy, do you not agree?”
1700: Aurora Eversedge has agreed to marry the ailing but wealthy Edward Francis to make a better life for herself. For a girl with few prospects, marriage to a virtual stranger is only a small sacrifice to make.
But Mr Francis is not all he seems.
And Aurora is the key he’s been waiting for to unlock his secret revenge…

eronica Bennett was an English lecturer for many years but now writes full time. Her interest in writing about early cinema was sparked by an article in a book about silent film actors. “I was struck by how very young the women were, though not the men,” she says. “It seems that the seeds of movie culture, which even now demands youth and beauty from any aspiring actress, were sown right at the beginning. And sadly, so were the background stories we still read about every day, of betrayal, divorce, addiction. What would it be like, I wondered, to be a teenage girl living through the birth of celebrity culture?” Veronica lives in Middlesex with her husband, and has an adult son and daughter.
