She allowed his touch, still craving him, even knowing it was part of the reason she was in her current predicament. As her mother always said, “there was no use crying over spilt milk”. She lay back allowing the water to lap at her breasts. Freyr disrobed quickly, sitting her up to get behind her. She rested against him, content with the contact.

“All will be well,” Freyr said. Vanessa sighed.

“It’s just so unexpected. I didn’t think that I’d be having children right now.”

A thought occurred to Freyr. “You are happy, yes?” She nodded.

She was happy. She was not about to hate her unborn child when she was the one who hadn’t been on the pill nor had she pushed for Freyr to wear a condom. From his reaction she knew she wouldn’t have to worry he’d turn into a jerk later and decide to have nothing to do with her or the child. He was much too honorable for that and she had to admit in her mind, that it would be best to apologize for having such terrible thoughts about her man previously.

The lavender calmed her senses while Freyr played with her breasts above the water. She fell asleep at some point and woke up on the bed covered with Freyr’s satin sheets. For a moment she just lay taking in the sounds around her. She heard Freyr speaking to someone. Because she didn’t hear a response she assumed he spoke on his phone.

“She is pregnant father,” Freyr mumbled, and then he sighed and said, “
Hún er ófrísk
.”  She cracked her eyes open to see him sitting in a chair across from the bed. With his focus on his conversation he hadn’t noticed she awoke yet. She remained very still, watching him to see if she could learn the truth of his feelings about the situation. His smiles were always so bright and blinding, she never managed to see past them. She felt she needed to know for sure if this was actually all okay with him.

He set his feet on the edge of the bed near her stomach. She bit back her smile. He knew she could not stand when he did that. It was very undignified. Her hand slid toward his feet where she ran a single finger across the sole. Freyr dropped his feet from the bed quickly. Vanessa opened her eyes with a smile on her face. “You know better than that,” she said.

Freyr hurried whoever he spoke to off the phone. Vanessa sat up, stretching her arms high over her head.  She felt well rested after her nap. She glanced toward the clock finding it was only early evening, leaving them plenty of time for them to keep their dinner plans for the evening. Her eyes found the ice blue depths of Freyr’s.

Without a word to her he leaned forward, catching her lips in a sweet kiss. “We need to get ready for dinner.”

Vanessa groaned. Part of her wanted nothing more than to just stay home, but he’d gone through so much trouble to make this celebration a success. The least she could do was have a lovely meal and maybe see a movie or something. She crawled out of bed. She kept a few things in his closets and dressers. His orders. She’d almost wanted to believe the relationship was moving too fast. She had never before left her clothing at any man’s place. That involved a level of commitment she never was ready for. But, she had to keep reminding herself. This was Freyr. This was now the father of her unborn child and Speedy Gonzalez had nothing on the pace of their relationship.

She picked out a lovely cream pantsuit, brushed her hair back into a tail at the nape of her neck, and slid on some sexy sling backs. She put on very little make up, just enough to look more presentable for going out. Freyr was very impressed with the end result. He finished fixing his red tie before he slid on the black sports coat. This dinner would be less formal than the work dinner they’d gone to. He’d been meaning to have her try some real Scandinavian fare. It may not have been exactly what he used to eat many centuries ago, but it was close enough. Vanessa didn’t know he had something very special in mind for her tonight.

She accepted the hand he held out to her. “Are we ready?” he asked. She nodded. She was more than ready to get this dinner over with. She was a little confused when he moved into the kitchen to grab a bag. He gave her a smile, promising that she would understand later.

Vanessa shrugged it off. Whatever floated his boat is what she had to say.

The restaurant was much smaller than she anticipated. With ten tables, it gave her the feel of
a home kitchen. The plates had nice little floral borders, like the one her grandmother used to own. It was cute, very quaint. Once the waiter sat them at one of the better tables with a view out the window, Freyr left her for a moment to head toward the kitchen in the back. While she waited, she glanced over the menu, wondering if she would recognize anything offered.

He’d better be lucky I love him
, she thought. Her mind stuttered to a halt. Did she just really say that she loved him? Was it even possible for her to fall for him so soon? It had only been about four months since meeting him. She glanced up when she felt his approach. The way he moved, the way he looked, the way his eyes lit with happiness when they caught sight of her; it was all so difficult to deny him. So yeah, maybe she did love him. He was the best thing to ever happen to her after all. She smiled when he sat down across from her.

“I wanted to give the chef some supplies to use for our meals.”

She lifted an eyebrow in question. “Don’t they usually get their own supplies? It is a restaurant after all.”

Freyr nodded, but before he could answer, the waiter came to take their orders. As she recognized nothing other than the Swedish meatballs she allowed Freyr to decide what they would eat. “Don’t worry,” Freyr said with a smile for Vanessa when he noticed the strange look on her face. “You will like what I’ve ordered.”

“I like Swedish meatballs, but then again, I think that’s probably the only thing that people like me recognize,” she admitted quietly.

He took a sip of his mead, closing his eyes in contemplation. When he opened them, he caught Vanessa staring at him. He licked his lips slowly, hiding his smile when her breath hitched. “I hope to soon have you come visit my main home, so you will have lots of chances to eat the food of my people.”

“You mean in Sweden?” She’d never been out of the country before and wasn’t sure if it was a good idea now considering she was pregnant.

He shook his head. “I was thinking the one in Asgard. That is where we immortals dwell. If I can ever get this situation settled with my ex-wife then it will be possible for us to make Asgard our more permanent residence.”

Vanessa was very glad she had yet to take a sip of her water or she would have choked. As it was, she very nearly lost control of the laugh fighting to break free. “You expect us to be together by then?”

His head tilted slightly in his confusion. “Of course I do. I love you. I have loved you since the moment I saw you. You are now carrying my child and I intend to have you until the end of time.”

Vanessa felt her eyes water. He was serious. She had no idea what to say, barely knew what to think. He really was the most amazing man she’d ever had the pleasure to be with. It was no wonder that she easily fell in love with him.

Freyr knew he had to be honest with Vanessa about his intentions, especially if he did not want her growing angry for hiding anything from her. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation that had to happen.
He reached across the table for her hand and slowly, he brought it to his lips, kissing every finger. “I know you have learned a little of my culture, but do you know about Idunn?”

Vanessa shook her head negatively.

“Okay,” Freyr began, “She guards the apples that help us retain our youth.”

It was now time for Vanessa to show her confusion. “So those apples you’re always eating help you keep you alive?”

He smiled. “Most of the apples are simply regular apples, but I do on occasion eat Idunn’s apples. You do not ever have to grow old if you so desire. That, I think, is what my sister sought to tell you.” Freyja had had no choice but to inform her twin of her conversation with Vanessa after he’d nearly yelled at her for her for making Vanessa unhappy. He watched expressions flash upon her face, first joy, and then it turned thoughtful before some sadness crept in. Freyr wasn’t sure what she could be thinking, but he hoped with everything within him she wouldn’t turn him down. He would hate to live without her when there was something to be done, especially now that he had a child to think of.

The idea was appealing
if it meant staying with Freyr, but she also thought about her family. What about them? Would she have to leave them behind to be with Freyr, or would he allow her to spend time with them. Could she simply sit by and watch them grow old while she remained young? Would she always have a good relationship with Freyr or would they eventually have a falling out? Forever was such a long time.

But then she was forced to think about the baby. What would happen to her baby when she was old and gone? Would her child be like its father and remain youthful for a very long time, or would her refusing Freyr’s gift bring death upon her baby? She just had no clue what she should decide, especially faced with Freyr’s desperately hopeful look. It was just such a huge decision he was forcing her to make.

“You don’t have to answer now,” Freyr assured her. “What you consume now will allow you the strength to give birth. You would be required to eat apples near constant to gain the full affect.”

Vanessa sighed in relief. She at least had time to contemplate what to do. With a smile, she pulled his hand to her lips for a kiss. She could deal with taking some time to think all of this through.

The food arrived as Freyr changed the conversation to something menial. They ate in peace, Vanessa experiencing tastes she never would have considered on her own while he relived some of his favorite meals. She had no idea what the chef did to the ham, but it was so tender and delicious, she was tempted to find the recipe to try and make it herself one day.

They spoke idle chat for the most part. Trying not to bring up the fact that Vanessa could change the dynamics of her whole life should she choose to. It was a nice celebration, just what she wanted.

Freyr did not have to pay for the meal. The owners of the restaurant knew him and felt blessed to have a being such as he come for a visit. Vanessa wasn’t sure what they thought of her, but she did not worry about it too much. By the time they finished up they had just enough time to make it for the movie she’d been dying to see at the theatre. She dragged Freyr to the car demanding he step on it and get them to their destination. Jason Statham was at risk and she never wanted to miss a chance to see such an awesome man in action.

His response was to laugh.

Gerd was beside herself with anger. Freyr was avoiding her completely.
He did not return any of the phone calls she made to him. His sister and those bitch daughters of hers blocked her from finding out what was going on in that backwater place Freyr had settled, so she was through with playing nice. It was bad enough that even Loki couldn’t be moved to help her get the black bitch out of Freyr’s life and he freely admitted to envying Freyr because he had managed to sleep with the woman first. It was as if all the gods were against her. Couples divorced all the time. It was a natural part of life. She had been doing nothing more than taking care of her needs when Freyr hadn’t. Why should she be punished for it?

She had been as patient as she was going to get. Since Freyr had refused to respond to her overtures of reconciliation, she would have to make the journey to him. It was such a horrid thought, and very degrading on her part, but it was obvious her ex-husband was too daft to remember who the better female for him was. She would have to remind him by any means necessary.

She glanced over the monitors looking to find where her plane would depart from.  She shuddered to think that she would be on a commercial flight instead of the perfectly running private jet owned by Odin. She smiled suddenly. Soon, very soon, she would have every lost privilege returned to her. And she would firmly have Freyr in hand. All she had to do was persevere for a moment longer and all would be just as it was meant to be. The black bitch would get it otherwise.
