“I
will. I’m being good. I promise.”

“I
know you are, baby.”

“Mother!
I am not a baby.”

“I
know, I know. I’m sorry. I’ll try to stop calling you baby, I promise. Just
behave, Okay?”

“Yes,
ma’am.”

“I’ll
see you in the morning.”

“Goodnight,
Mom”

“Goodnight,
b…Aaron.”

Sharon
handed back his phone. He set it on the end table next to him. There was no
point in returning it to his belt when he had every intention of removing his
clothing in the next few minutes.

He
turned her so she straddled his lap, glad that she hadn’t dressed after their
last round of lovemaking. Instead she opted to put on a long sleep shirt. He
knew she was bare underneath and the thought alone had kept him half-hard all
through dinner. Now, he was ready for dessert.

He
ran his hands up and down her naked legs, loving the feel of her soft skin
beneath his rough hands. Each pass of his hands over flesh rose a little
higher, until his hands skimmed under her T-shirt to massage her back. He
continued the assault, dragging the shirt up her body and over her head. Then
he laid her out on the couch and began kissing a path down her body. He started
at her neck, nibbling and kissing behind her ear, like he had learned she
enjoyed. Then he moved to her collarbone, dipping his tongue into the hollow
and following it with tiny kisses. He moved to her breasts, full and round like
ripe melons with raspberry tips, now puckered from his attentions.
God, they are beautiful
. He sucked one
nipple into his mouth, pressing it to the roof of his mouth and sucking
strongly. Sharon’s hands moved into his hair, which she had refused to let him
secure in the band. She pressed closer and he bit her nipple, her hips rocked
forward at the action. While he could stay here worshiping her breast for eternity,
he had other plans at the moment. He continued down her body, kissing over the
slight swell of her stomach, on his way to his chosen destination.

Sharon
had a small patch of light blonde hair guarding the entrance to her pussy. Neatly
trimmed and either shaved or waxed on the side. It was the perfect amount to
make her appear feminine and womanly. Tanner hated bare pussies. He wanted a
woman who looked like a woman. He traced her curls, first with his fingers, and
then with his nose, inhaling the scent of her arousal.
Hot
and musky, all woman, and all his.
He spread her lips with his fingers and
licked the little bud they revealed. Sharon bucked her hips and he placed his
other hand on her belly to hold her in place for his attentions. Tanner moved
lower, licking the cream from her lower lips. He rose up and looked into
Sharon’s eyes.

“I’m
going to eat you until you scream my name,” he said. Not giving her a chance to
reply he ravaged her pussy. Licking, lapping, sucking her labia into his mouth,
and then thrusting his tongue inside to fuck her with it. He replaced his
tongue with two fingers and moved his mouth to the engorged bud of her clit.
The hands in his hair were alternately pulling him closer and trying to push
him away.

“Oh
God, Tanner.
It’s too much.” She writhed beneath his ministrations.

With
the hand on her belly he could feel her muscles begin to clench. He added
another finger to her center and thrust hard, making sure to hit her G-spot,
and sucked her clit hard. Sharon’s entire body
tightened,
the flesh around his fingers
spasmed
. She clutched
his hair in her hands, pulling and ratcheting up his desire another notch.
Sharon came, screaming his name, just as he had promised.

He
rode her through her climax. Bringing her down slowly, so she could fully enjoy
her rush. Tanner crawled up her body to plant a kiss on her mouth. Sharon
returned his kiss with enthusiasm and squirmed out from underneath him.

She
jumped from the sofa and ran to the bedroom, yelling, “Catch me if you can.”

Tanner
growled and raced after her, she wouldn’t be hard to catch and she was headed
right where he wanted her.
The bedroom.

Chapter Seven

The
summer passed in a whirl of activity, the new school year was starting in only
a week. Sharon and Tanner spent every free moment together, mostly with Aaron
included. They went riding several times, often taking the back way to
Kamani’s
house and stopping for a visit.
Kamani
had become a close friend and Aaron adored her.
Aaron had three visits to the fire station, and Tanner had gifted him with his
own mini set of turnout gear, complete with boots and helmet.

The
only thing that marred their time together was the rash of brush fires that
kept popping up. The summer had been very dry, and they were experiencing
draught conditions. Warnings blared over the radio and television. No burning
was permitted, no campfires. They were even asking that citizens use extreme
caution when using outdoor barbeques, but the real culprit seemed to be
cigarettes. People were notoriously careless with their cigarettes, throwing lit
butts out of their car windows, or dropping them as they walked down the
street.

Sharon
was surprised she wasn’t more concerned when Tanner fought the blazes. That’s
not to say she didn’t care. She just trusted in his abilities and God to keep
him safe. However, every time he left to fight a fire she sat by the phone and
waited for his call. He always called to tell her the fire was out and he was
safe.

Aaron
was becoming a regular fixture around
Kamani’s
house.
He spent as much time there as he did at home lately, and
home
consisted as much of Tanner’s house as their own. That is
where they were at the moment.

Sharon
sat at the kitchen table sipping a cup of coffee and looking out the picture
window toward the barn. Tanner and Aaron were out grooming the horses. She
could see glimpses of them as they moved around. She closed her eyes and smiled
to herself. Life was good.

Sharon
got up and walked over to the counter to turn on the radio. Country music rose
from the speakers.
I Won’t Let Go
her
favorite Rascal
Flatts
song was playing. She loaded
the dishwasher as she sang along, wiped down the counters and was just getting
ready to go and dress when she smelled it.
Smoke
.

She
ran to the window…there to the west, a plume of smoke rose from the woods.
Oh my God. This is so not good.
She was
turning to race to the door when it burst open. Tanner rushed inside, Aaron hot
on his heels.

“There’s
another brush fire. And it’s close. I want you to take Aaron over to Mom’s.
I’ll call and tell her you’re coming while you dress.”

Sharon
nodded,
then
crossed to him to give him a fierce hug.
He gave her a quick kiss and turned her toward the bedroom. Tanner smacked her
ass, “Get a move on, lady.”

That
was just what she needed to lighten the mood. “Come on, Aaron. Get everything
together you need. We’re going over to
Kamani’s
.”

“Okay,
Mom.”

Tanner
followed her to the bedroom. Stripping as he went.

“This
one looks bad, Sharon.
And it’s a little too close to home for comfort. I really need to get out
there. Can you make it over to Mom’s on your own?”

“Of,
course.
You go. Do what you need to do. We’ll be fine.”

Tanner
was already dressed in his turnout gear. She must be a terrible person, because
while the situation was dire, she couldn’t help but admire how sexy he was in
his gear. He crossed to her and wrapped her in his arms. “Hurry and get to
Mom’s. Keep safe. I love you.” He kissed her hard, turned and disappeared out
the door before she had a chance to respond to his declaration.

She
loved him too.
Had for a long time, maybe even since their
first meeting.
Sharon had never believed in love at first sight, but
what she and Tanner had together was special from the start. She shook her
head, coming back to the situation at hand. Sharon quickly dressed, grabbed her
purse and keys from the dresser and headed back into the living room. Aaron had
his bag and was already waiting by the door.

When
they arrived at
Kamani’s
, Jasmine’s car was in the
driveway. “Look, Mom,
Annebelle
and Josh are here
too.”

Sharon
was glad. The kids would keep Aaron occupied and she had become quite close to
Jasmine over the past few weeks. She would have the support of her friends to
help her survive the waiting.

The
front door opened as Sharon put the SUV in park.
Kamani
waved from the doorway and Aaron in his haste to exit, unbuckled his seatbelt
and raced to her arms. Sharon sat dumbfounded. It was the first time she could
ever remember Aaron not
preforming
his buckling and
unbuckling ritual three times. Her life was surely changing.

Sharon
followed more slowly. She kissed
Kamani’s
cheek and
gave her a brief hug. “Thanks for having us.”

“Don’t
be silly, child. You should always be with family at times like this.” Sharon’s
eyes misted with tears. This really was becoming her family. Aaron had already
run off to the family room. Sharon and
Kamani
headed to the kitchen. The kitchen was
the center of this house. It was where they would sit and talk and wait for
news.

The
kitchen table was covered in sandwich supplies. Bread, mayonnaise, four kinds
of lunchmeats, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, Jasmine was rapidly assembling
sandwiches.

“What’s
going on,
Jaz
?” Sharon asked.

“I
thought we would bring sandwiches and drinks out to the guys on the line. From
what Tanner said, it’s going to be a long, hard fight.”

“That’s
a great idea. You are one terrific sister,” Sharon said, crossing to kiss her
cheek. “Let me wash my hands and I’ll help.”

“Why
don’t you make some sweet tea? There are some gallon containers in the pantry
we keep just for these situations. Four or five gallons should do the trick.”

“You
got it.”

They
made dozens of sandwiches and gallons of tea and packed up three coolers with
the offerings, plus lots of bottled water and sports drinks.
Jasmine
place
the coolers by the back door and wiped her hands on her jean clad
hips.

“Okay,
let’s have a quick lunch ourselves and then we can head out.”

The
three women ate their sandwiches and drank their sweet tea. They didn’t bother
trying to make small talk. They each knew their minds were all on the fire.
“Will you be okay keeping the kids,
Kamani
?” Sharon
asked.

“Are
you kidding? You know I love a chance to spoil my grandbabies.”

Sharon
and Jasmine both laughed. Yes,
Kamani’s
penchant for
spoiling the children was legendary. “You ladies go and take care of our boys.
I’ll be fine here with the
rugrats
.” Coolers loaded
in the back, they turned west onto the highway, driving toward the orange glow
and rising smoke.

The
closer they got, the more nervous Sharon became. The smoke was thick and black,
reducing visibility down to almost nothing. The orange and red flames were
visible from miles away. It would have been beautiful if it wasn’t so deadly.

A
police barricade blocked the road ahead. Sharon slowed to a stop and rolled
down her window. An officer approached the car and leaned down to speak to her.

“I’m
sorry, ma’am…” he halted his speech when Jasmine leaned across the seat “Hi,
Jack. We’re taking lunch up to the line, can you let us through?”

“Sure,
Jasmine. Sorry I didn’t know it was you.”

“That’s
okay. This is Tanner’s lady, Sharon.”

The
officer smiled. “So, you’re the lady that has the chief so smitten? Now I can
see why.”

Sharon
felt her face heat.

“Thank
you officer…”

“Jack
Johnson, ma’am.
Pleased to meet you.”
He extended a hand through the
open window and gave her a firm handshake. Sharon decided to ignore the ma’am.
It appeared she had better get used to it. Everyone here called her ma’am,
there was no use fighting it.
