The rest of the flight, I tried not
too think, only to stretch out my thoughts to see if I could feel that familiar fire she had about her. Once I was over the coast, I could feel the faintest of humming and I went toward it. It was almost morning now, but it was still dark. Any normal person would have a hard time seeing, but an angel's sight was even better in the night. If I wanted to find her easily, I needed to do it before the sun came up.

Turning right, I felt the hum grow stronger, but something was wrong. I felt panic rise up through the line, she was scared. Using her fear as guidance, I flew faster until I saw the little island and felt her inside the house.

Chapter 13

What was that?
I thought when I heard a soft thump on the roof. Someone had landed.
Please don't let them be back!
I pleaded to God. I couldn't take anymore pain. I never should have come with Adrian. It was trap. Once we arrived here, he had immediately tied me to this table and Jayne walked through the door.

"Good job, babe," she had said, smirking at me before releasing gray molting wings from her back. I had gasped and she laughed at my surprised. "Oh, you shouldn't be surprised,
little witch,
" she spat the name at me. "You couldn't have thought none of us knew where you were, did you?" She asked narrowing her eyes. "I have watched you since you were born. I wasn't really planning on doing this, well so long as none of Heaven's angels found you, but alas, Dimitri came into town and simply couldn't stay away," she cackled.

"But Adrian, you were supposed to be with Dimitri, you were supposed to be good!" I shouted at him. As soon as I shut my mouth, he had backhanded me. I bit my lip against the pain radiating through my cheek.

"Well, now I get to have some fun," Jayne said, grinning wickedly. "You see I have thought a lot about how I think you should die, but I just can't decide, but I can guarantee, you will suffer. So, shall we begin? I think I'll start with bleeding you out."

She had cut me, time after time. She cut my face, my arms, my legs, even ripped open my shirt so she could cut my stomach. After about an hour, I guess she got bored of that because she wrapped her arms around Adrian and had a make out session right there in front of me. They walked out, and I had been here alone for another three hours.

Now someone was here and I shrank down in fear of what Jayne had planned now. I heard the door knock wiggle and I closed my eyes. I didn't want to see her, the girl I had called my best friend since childhood, was some fallen angel hell bent on killing me. The door opened and I
heard a sharp intake of breath and opened my eyes to see Dimitri standing in the doorway gawking at me.

"Oh, my God!" he whispered, walking forward cautiously. "Where is he?" I didn't have the strength to shrug my shoulders and for some reason I couldn't speak. I couldn't believe he was here, how did he know? "It's not important right now, what's important is getting you away from here, I am so sorry. I never should have let you leave my sight," he sighed trying to break the chains that held me. They had started with ropes, but I had burned through those.

Just as he got the chains off, we heard the door open. I looked up to see Jayne and Hunter standing in the doorway. What was he doing here? "Stop them," Jayne demanded of Hunter. He started walking forward, but Dimitri was faster. I didn't even see it coming, but before I knew it, Hunter was lying on the floor, his neck broken.

"Oh my God!
Dimitri, why?! He wasn't an angel!!" I screamed.

"Calm down, he wasn't human either," he whispered. Just as he said that, I watched as Hunter stood up and put his neck back in place before continuing his pursuit of us.
What the hell is he?!

Jayne laughed before turning around and stepping outside. Dimitri grabbed me by the waist and whispered in my ear, "You have to burn
him, it's the only way to kill him. He won't stop unless you do!" Without a second thought, I raised my hand and shot fire through his heart and he erupted in engulfing flame.

"He was a Vas, a vessel if you will. Jayne must have created him to do her bidding. Come on, let's get out of here. There's no telling where Adrian is right now," he
sad before stepping out the door.

"Found
him,"I whispered, standing in a line outside the house, and headed by Jayne and Adrian, were about thirty other angels, all of their wings dirty looking. Even Adrian's once beautiful emerald wings had turned a puke green color.

"Run," Dimitri whispered, nudging me in the back.

"And leave you here? No way!" I said, pushing his hand off me. Looking at the line of Fallen, I knew suddenly what I had to do. I would have to use the powers that had been given to me. I would have to open myself up to them and after I did there was no turning back.

Dimitri started running toward the line, and instead of following for protection like I knew they wanted me to, I stood in place. As the first angel, slowly started making his way to me, his
dirty brown wings twitching in anticipation, with little more than a thought I set him on fire. It started between his wings and spread across his whole body. He dropped to the ground writhing in pain. A female cried out and charged toward me. I crouched down and sent a wave of ice freezing the ground in front of me. When the ice reached her it crept up her body, freezing her in place.

"Get her, dammit!" Jayne shrieked, throwing her hands in my direction. All of the angels hesitated and it gave me a chance to see Dimitri, wrestling with a big angel. The Fallen shoved Dimitri on the ground hard, but as Dimitri
fell, he caught an arrow from the other angel's pouch and sliced his chest open. Seeing my chance to help Dimitri, I focused on the cut in the other one's chest and pictures it lighting on fire. As soon as the cut was burning the man fell to the ground screaming in agony.

This brought all the other angels back to the present though, and they focused their attention on me. Three angels started toward me as another two flew into the air with bows and arrows. Dimitri flew up to stop the two from shooting me, but Jayne yanked him back down and put her hand between his wings. I heard a popping noise come from his back and he was on the ground unmoving. Setting my hand on the ground again I decided to try a different tactic, I felt the earth, its beautiful hum and vibration reverberated through me. Silently I apologized for having to destroy its peace, but then demanded it to split open. The ground shook and groaned loudly right before a canyon appeared underneath the three angels advancing on me. Two more angels ran forward to save them, but the earth swallowed them into its black abyss, before sealing up as if nothing had happened. As I stood up, I felt a sharp pain and looked down to see an arrow in my leg. The pain screamed inside of me, but I bit down on my lip until I felt blood, and shot the two angels out of the sky. All the other angels looked at each other before flying up into the sky and disappearing. I didn't think they would be coming back.

"They said she's too strong, they won't fight this war yet," Adrian said to Jayne, dropping out of the sky. I looked over just in time to see Jayne pull out a knife.

"No! Please no! Don't hurt him!" I screamed as I watched Jayne take the knife to Dimitri's wings. "I'll do anything! Just, please!"

"Just go!" Dimitri yelled at me. "You have to get out of he-" his words were cut off by his agonizing scream as Jayne started sawing at his left wing.

"Dimitri!" I yelled trying to get on my feet through the pain of the hole in my leg from the arrow protruding. When I was on my feet, I grabbed the arrow and yanked. Blood poured from the wound as I tried to make my way toward Jayne.

"I have to get you out of here!" Adrian yelled from behind me, grabbing me around the waist and hauling me in the opposite direction of Jayne and Dimitri. My vision was coming true. I knew what would happen next, but I still had to try. I had to try and stop Jayne from hurting Dimitri.

"No! I will help him!" I yelled, but he was already lifting me off the ground. Before I knew it, we were too high off the ground for me to see anything. "Adrian! He's your brother! How could you do this to him?!"

"He'll be fine,
Angel."
Adrian mocked.

"I can't believe you!" I screamed at him. "You shouldn't be doing this right now! He believed in you! I believed in you!"

"Oh, I am so sorry about this."

"What are y-" I couldn't even finish my question, all I knew was that I was falling. Adrian had dropped me and now I was hurtling fast toward the ground. I was going to die.

Once I got to where I could see the ground, I saw Jayne still working on Dimitri's wing. I felt a power bubble underneath my service, a power I had never felt before. It was fueled by my anger and need to protect Dimitri. Letting it go towards Jayne and making it heal Dimitri, all I saw was blue. Blue light everywhere and when I saw Dimitri was alone, the blue fire had done what I needed, Jayne was gone, I let go.

"No no no!" I screamed, standing up and running towards Gwen. "No! Please wake up! Wake up, Gwen, please!" She was lying on the ground unmoving. She wasn't breathing and I couldn't feel her heart pumping. "Look, at what you have done!" I screamed at Adrian.

"Now who will you use?" he asked simply before spreading his wings and taking flight. She had done this. She was protecting me. The blast she
used, killed Jayne and healed me. It took every last ounce of strength she had to save me. I could never forgive myself if she didn't come back. I shook her shoulders, hard. I tried mouth to mouth and pumping her chest, but nothing was working. Nothing I could do was going to bring her back. But I couldn't give up hope.

Kissing her softly on the lips, I leaned down and whispered in her ear, "I won't give up on you."
