Love.

Need.

Mine
.

Megan’s breath
hitched, and she arched her spine, throwing her head back. He was
close, probably only seconds away from imminent detonation, and he
needed to mark her. His wolf totally in control, Sasha dug his
teeth into the delicate skin at the base of her neck.

Her cry as she
came again was drowned out by the roaring in his ears at his own
climax. His wolf’s triumphant howl was one of possession, devotion
and everything that was good between Sasha and his Mate.

They collapsed
into a trembling heap on Megan’s bed, and it felt like hours before
Sasha had gathered his wits enough to speak. “
Cariad
, that
was”—he groped for the right word. Failed—“in-fuckin’-credible.”
His heart continued to race. The most amazing rush ever.

Megan twitched
beneath him, a muffled giggle coming from the pillows. “I came
twice, and I’m still wearing most of my clothes.” She craned her
neck and flashed him an innocent smile. “Thank you for sparing my
panties.”

With an effort,
Sasha pulled out of Megan, and then rolled to his side, taking her
with him. “Any time. Although you do look even better without
them.”

She snuggled
into his embrace, and pressed tiny kisses along his jaw. “I’m all
sticky now. And I have cum dribbling down my thigh. This is going
to take some getting used to.” She didn’t sound concerned.

He stole a
kiss. “You’re telling me. I’m going to try for a full thirty
seconds next time. If we practice really hard, I might last for two
minutes by the end of the week.”

“Uh huh. Just
as well we have some time off work.” Megan yawned, her eyelids
drooping. She wasn’t far from going to sleep, and Sasha wondered if
this
was the right time. She’d just given him a present to
remember, and maybe he could do the same? He pondered some more.
She’d draped her arm over his leg, covering the pocket he needed
access to.

Before he could
move, Megan lifted her head and gazed at him, bleary-eyed. “I’m
starving. Let’s get some food, before it all goes.”

Never mind
food. The moment was gone.

Chapter 4

Megan was
inevitably sidetracked when they emerged onto the sprawling deck
area again. “Family friends,” she muttered, as people approached.
“This is going to take a while.” Sasha filled up plates with steak,
bread, and salads, and went back to rescue her. After just a few
bites of dinner, more partygoers wanted her attention, and soon
there was a continuous stream of them.

It was only
until Boxing Day. Then he’d claim her all to himself.

Megan was keen
to introduce him every time, but after a few curious looks his way,
the guests chatted with his Mate, leaving him standing by her side.
Despite his best efforts, Sasha was bored, and he strolled over to
the pool, pretending to watch the partygoers splashing around. In
his head, he saw snow covered mountains.

Thoughts of
home tugged at his heart. His beloved twin, Tammy. His parents. His
friend, cousin, and pack Alpha, Jake and his darling Mate, Lillian.
Sasha snickered as he remembered telling Megan that Jake had Mated
with the world famous singer everyone knew as Ella Hart, and
Megan’s disbelief at his story. She’d thought him to be
delusional.

He’d wait a few
hours, and then he’d call them. He didn’t have any news, hadn’t
told anyone about the ring he’d picked for Megan, but he longed to
hear their voices. Christmas was a time for family. The old cliché
was true, especially when they were on the other side of the world.
And much as he loved his Mate, this wasn’t
his
family.
Jesus. Could he manage up to two more years here?

“Sasha.” Megan
slipped her hand in his, and tangled their fingers together.
Glancing down at her, he knew if it took ten years before they
left, he’d put up with it, to have her by his side. To hell with
waiting. He wanted to give her the ring now. No more delays.

Cariad
,
I just-”

She squeezed
his fingers, and pressed a kiss on his lips. Her eyes sparkled, and
she fought a smile. “We have to be somewhere.”

This time,
Sasha stood his ground. “I need a few minutes with you. Alone.”

“Same. Come
with me.” Her smile burst free. “Please, babe. This is
important.”

As long as he
had her full attention.

He followed her
hasty steps to the back of the house, to one of the several guest
lodges dotted around the property. Her father had built the cosy
wooden cottages to give his frequent guests some privacy from his
family.

Megan pulled
him to the door of the largest unit, and released his hand so she
could open the lock. Sasha used the moment to dig into his pocket,
and close his fingers around the velvet-covered box.

Now. As soon as
they were inside. He had to make sure Megan knew how he felt about
her. About
them
. His wolf yipped agreement, and Sasha
stepped forward into the hallway of the cottage, focused on one
thing only.

It was cool
inside, shaded from the brilliant sunshine. Perfect.

“Wait,” he
said, and caught Megan by the hand again. Ignoring her stifled
gasp, he dropped to his knees in front of her, held up the box, and
flipped it open to show the ring.

“Megan,
Cariad
, I never asked you properly, so I’m asking you now. I
want you to marry me, to be my wife and my Mate, and for us to
spend the rest of our lives together.” He’d rehearsed the words,
but they still felt awkward and rushed. He shivered. Not only cool
in here, it was cold, and if
he
felt the cold then Megan had
to be freezing.

“I love you,
Megan.”

“Oh.” She stood
there, hands pressed to her mouth, and for one heart-stopping
moment, he thought he’d made a hideous mistake. “Yes, yes,
yes
, please.” She dropped to her knees too, and threw her
arms around him. “God, I love you so much.
Yes
.”

Their lips met,
hungry and needy, and filled with as much love as Sasha could ever
wish for. Relief burst out of his chest, making him feel dizzy, and
he held her close. “Why is it so cold in here? Is the A/C
broken?”

Her delighted
laugh was a sound he adored. “No, it’s actually working perfectly.”
She shivered, and he felt goose bumps on her bare arms. “There’s
something you need to see, babe, but I want to put on this
beautiful ring first. Oh, my God, it’s so gorgeous. It’s perfect.
Absolutely perfect.”

With care, he
slipped the ring free from its satin nest, and holding her hand,
eased the slim band onto her finger. It fit like a dream, and he
pressed a kiss over her palm. He’d spent ages searching for the
right design, and had finally stumbled on this. Tiny obsidian chips
and shards of diamond, set in a highly polished silver band. It was
unusual—
unique
—and he hoped Megan would love it.

After
deliberating all day, he couldn’t quite believe he’d finally done
it. She’d said yes. He felt humbled by how lucky he was. Some
wolves never found their true Mate, never got to experience the
depth of love that could be shared between Mates.

Megan shivered
again, and Sasha pushed to his feet. “Let’s go somewhere
warmer.”

“No. This is
for you.” Huh? She scrambled to her feet too, and grabbed the
handle for the inside door. “Merry Christmas, Sasha.”

An icy blast of
air hit Sasha in the face, as soon as they entered the open-plan
living area. What the hell? It was also dark, with heavy blinds
pulled down over all the windows. His keen night-sight and sharp
sense of smell identified a huge pine tree in one corner, and the
scent of freshly chopped logs.

A second later,
Megan flicked a switch, and a fully decorated Christmas tree burst
to life. Laden with flashing lights, baubles, tinsel
and—
yes
—little bags of chocolate coins, it looked almost
like the festive trees back home. The fresh logs in the fireplace
were ready to be lit. It felt like winter in here.

He spun to face
Megan, and caught her hands. “You’ve made it a wintery Christmas?
For me?”

She nodded, her
eyes sparkling and a huge smile lighting up her face. “I got Dad to
reset the A/C down to the absolute minimum, and kept it cold in
here all day.” She shivered, but then reached to a shelf and picked
up a box of matches. “Would you like to light the fire? Get it nice
and warm?”

“Well, yes.” He
laughed in delight, still confused by what she’d done. “Why did you
do this, babe?”

“Why?” Megan
slid her arms around his neck, and stretched up for a kiss.
“Because I know you’re homesick. Because I love you. Because I want
our first Christmas together to be memorable.” Her cheeks pinked.
“And did I say, I love you?” Another swift kiss. “Now light the
fire, before we both freeze.”

For the second
time in as many hours, she’d reduced Sasha to dumbness. While he
groped for something to say, Megan shrugged with a beautifully
feline-like grace. “We have the lodge to ourselves, right up to
Boxing Day.”

Sasha pulled
his wits together. What was he supposed to be doing? Lighting the
fire. Yes. He fumbled with the box of matches, dropped most of them
onto the tiled hearth, and bit back a curse at his sudden
clumsiness. It felt like an age later that the fire burst into
life, the room immediately warming.

Megan busied
herself in the kitchenette, and then came back with a bottle of
champagne and two glasses, which she placed carefully on the coffee
table. “You know, I planned for us to drink to our first Christmas
together, but now we can celebrate even more.” She extended her
left hand, her attention focused on the ring, and then looked up to
meet his gaze. Her eyes were damp, but her smile was huge. “What
did I do to deserve you, babe?”

Funny, but
Sasha often asked himself the same thing. Megan was hands down the
best thing to ever happen to him. “Well”—he pretended to consider
her question—“I’m not sure. Maybe you need to come a bit closer. If
we sit on the sofa for a while, we might figure it out.”

“I feel like
Little Red Riding Hood, when you look at me like that, Wolf Boy.
Are you going to bite me?”

He snapped his
teeth, and then held out his arms. “Only if you’re very good…”

Epilogue

New Year’s
Eve

After four days
of chilling out by the sea, in the cottage Megan borrowed from her
gran, Sasha and Megan had to head back into the city.

Megan fizzled
with nervous energy, and he wondered what she was up to now. They
had the not-such-a-surprise party later, but even so. From the way
she kept checking her cell phone and replying to texts, he knew
there was more going on.

He’d not seen
Dion or any of his other friends this week, and looked forward to
catching up with them tonight and telling them Megan wore his ring.
Yeah. His wolf strutted every time he thought about that. He was
one lucky wolf. He’d phoned his parents and Tammy, and then Jake
and Lillian. Megan’s family had taken it well, and it was probably
just his imagination, but the Hellspawn were no longer being such
assholes. Alex had asked about his hometown in Wales, and seemed
genuinely interested in knowing about it. Weird.

They didn’t
leave for Mighty Mike’s until almost nine, by which time Megan
acted as though she’d burst with excitement. Sasha watched the
wiggle of her delicious ass, leading him up the stairs to the top
floor club. The muffled boom of rock music assaulted his sensitive
eardrums, but the enormous bouncer at the door slipped him a pair
of foam earplugs, and the noise muted to an enjoyable level.

Sasha got a
real buzz from Mighty Mike’s, Non-shifters came here too. Some
commented on the strange vibe, but many felt uneasy. Not Megan
though. He’d figured out she most likely had some shifter blood in
her heritage, many generations back. It made sense for his wolf to
recognise that, and for her to accept him so well.

They arrived
just as the first band was finishing. Lost in thought, he was
startled when one familiar face after another greeted them in the
club. Dion bounded over to greet him, and they fist-bumped. “Just
in time, man. We’re on next.” Dion bounced on the balls of his feet
as his spoke, his attention darting all over the place. “Dude, it’s
going to be an awesome gig tonight.” He clapped Sasha on the
shoulder. “Best one yet.”

Maybe there was
a talent scout in the audience? The prospect of a record deal was
the only thing that could make Dion so hyper. Time to do some
fishing. “Special guest in the crowd tonight, eh?”

“What?” Dion
froze. “Who told you?”

Sasha jerked
his chin at the Hellspawn. “Alex. Or it might have been Hugh.”

“Holy fuck.
Megan is going to seriously kick their asses.” Dion shook his head
and leaned closer. “Pretend it’s a surprise. She’s put a fuck-load
of effort into this.”

“Yeah, of
course.” Before he could wheedle anything more from his friend,
Dion was called away, and went to take his place on the stage.

What was
Sasha’s Mate up to? He turned to look for Megan, and found her
instinctively in the press of people gathered around the bar. As
though recognizing his gaze, she glanced over her shoulder and
flashed him a smile. They probably only had a few minutes before
Dion’s band started up, and this time Sasha meant to get some
answers.

He strode
toward the bar, only to be sidetracked by a hand on his arm. “Hey,
Crasher.”

Crasher
?
Only one person called him that. He spun around to see Tammy, his
twin sister. “Tamster?” He’d spoken to her a few days ago. She’d
been at home. In Wales. Thousands of miles away.

“Don’t I get a
hug, bro?” She smiled, and the next moment was hugging him,
squeezing him tight. Sasha’s heart felt as though it would burst.
This
was what his Mate had been planning.
