elt like I had bricks for feet. My hands trembled.
I
made my way to the center of the room,
and watched in amazement as she opened the box and removed a diamond tiara.
“
Pepper
Ingrid Marie Peterson.
Three questions I shall ask.”

I nodded, holding my breath as she held the tiara over my head.

“Will you forever be loyal to the Brighton family?”

“Yes,”

“Do you vow to take your place in the Council, beside Quinton Langford Brighton, and r
ule to the greatest and fairest
of your ability when the day comes?”

“Yes,”

“Do you love my son?”

I looked at Quinn and nodded, smiling. “Yes, I do.”

She set the tiara on my head, beaming. “I welcome you,
Pepper
, to the Council, and to our family.”

There was a cheer throughout the room. I waited nervously for Quinn as he crossed the ballroom to sweep me into his arms for a kiss that ended all kisses. I’d never forget it as long as I lived.

I danced with my werewolf into the wee hours of the morning. My thoughts were happy as I looked forward to the future,
and to the years
we’d be together. I knew
that whatever happene
d, we’d always have each other
, and that was the best gift I’d ever receive
.
