Lucy dropped her jaw. “Are you serious?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding?”

Lucy grunted, slid away from the table, darted under Rex’s arm, and shot toward the door. “You really have some nerve.” She couldn’t decide which brother she wanted to scold first, or at least that’s how it appeared with her gaze bouncing back and forth between men. “You haven’t seen me in five years. Five years! Do you know how long that is?”

“Sixty months?” Luke asked, being a smart-ass.

“Yes. Damn it. Yes. That’s not just a few days ago. That’s a lifetime. Some folks finance cars for five years, and by the time they pay the damn thing off, they don’t even want the same make and model anymore!”

“Surely you don’t expect us to believe you’re sporting around a newer model,” Rex said, uncertainty thick in his voice.

“Younger,” she said smugly.

“Right,” Luke said, crossing his arms. A beat later, he started thinking about all those drivers she employed. “Who is he?”

“She doesn’t have anyone,” Rex assured him. “Tell him, Lucy.”

Luke and Rex looked on as Lucy stared back at them. Finally, she stormed across the room, opened the French double doors with both hands, and marched away from them. A few seconds later he heard her scream across the house, “I have someone all right, and he has the God’s honest decency to forego asking questions that are none of his damn business!”

Their heavy front door soon slammed. Rex calmly walked toward the bar. “I think I’ll have that drink now.”

“That went really well.”

“I thought so,” Rex said, dropping ice cubes in a crystal tumbler.

“Think she’s lying?”

Rex raised his glass and tossed back the toffee-colored liquid. “Ah,” he drawled, setting down his glass. “I do believe she’s telling the truth.”

“They couldn’t be too serious. She was over here tonight. By the way things were going, I think she planned to go as far as we were willing to take her.”

“Yep. And if you hadn’t blown it, she would’ve been here all night.”

Luke ran his fingers through his hair. “Naturally, it’s my fault. Since I screwed this up, I’ll go apologize.”

“Like hell you will,” Rex said, pouring another scotch. “That’s always been our problem. We’re predictable. This time, we’re going to do the unexpected. We’ll wait. Let Lucy come to us. Once she does, we’ll make sure she stays right where she’s always been most at home.”

* * * *

Well at least she had her own stash of toys. What woman needed a stubborn man when she had new batteries for her vibrator?

Lucy yanked open the nightstand drawer and rummaged through the gadgets she placed there while unpacking. She grabbed the matching tubular nipple suckers and slipped off her shirt, yanking the material overhead in one fluid motion. Cupping one breast and then another, she affixed the cool rubber breast stimulators and took a deep breath.

She stared down at her chest. Who was she kidding? This was nice but hardly a fair comparison to a McDavid mouth.

Decidedly aroused, she roughly shoved her fingers through her hair and closed her eyes, imagining Rex and Luke there with her. Plucking the end of the devices designed to provide a satisfying suction, she realized at this rate, the night would pass at the speed of a turtle.

Returning to the open drawer, she grabbed her favorite vibrator. With its clear shaft and rotating pleasure beads, she gasped thinking of how she’d pleasure herself—imagining one of the McDavids there with her, stimulating her clit with their lips and fingers, kissing her intimate folds before thrusting a tongue deep inside her.

Falling against the mattress, she parted her legs and hiked up her skirt. She was still aroused from earlier. Hell, after Rex backed her against the dining room table, she’d barely been able to stand. Aware of the warm spot between her thighs, she’d pressed her knees together then. Now, she couldn’t spread them wide enough.

Lying on her bed, she fondled her breast and slapped her bare pussy with the tip of the vibrator, moaning when the surge of pleasure wracked her body. She pinched a nipple and bucked under her own hand. Arching her back, she ran the length of the toy across her exposed flesh, positioning the head between her damp pussy lips.

“Oh God!” she screamed, more frustrated than anything else. She could’ve been in the arms of her lovers. She could’ve been arching for them, begging for penetration.

She should’ve been enjoying a long overdue fuck!

She thrust the vibrator inside her channel. The toy zipped right into action, dancing between her folds, humming along at a fast-paced song. She rose and fell with the continual impalement, guiding the vibrator in and out.

Pinching a nipple again, she came to a jackknifed position, drawing her legs to her chest. She fingered the large shaft as she withdrew the artificial dick, imagining what it would be like to watch Luke enter her pussy, her slick juices coating his shaft.

“Oh, Luke!” she cried out, knowing this wasn’t enough.

Rex would’ve been there, too. He would’ve been entering her from behind, bending her over, telling her what he wanted to do, and then following through. His hand would raise, and he would smack her ass, spank her until she begged for leniency. But there would be no mercy.

Her bottom would burn. Her cunt would sizzle. And somewhere deep in the night, she would discover what she’d missed. She would understand what it felt like to be adored and loved by Rex and Luke once again.

Her hand jerked. She moved the toy up and down, screwing herself as rapidly as she could. She squeezed her eyes shut and pictured Luke and Rex. They were there with her, coaxing her, loving her, and oh yes! They were whispering the naughtiest of things right into her ear.

Her breasts became heavy. Her nipples tightened under the rubber stimulators. Wet. Oh damn, she was so wet!

But she couldn’t come.

No matter how hard she tried, no matter how many times she pressed the thick head of her toy inside her vagina, she still couldn’t get off! Finally, after several minutes playing alone, she decided sex really was a team sport.

Flipping onto her stomach, she stared at her cell phone. She wondered what Rex and Luke might do if they came in there and found her like this, playing all by her lonesome. There was only one way to find out.

She picked up her cell phone, stared at clock on the smooth surface, and then tossed the small device away.

There was one way to find out, but she wasn’t about to make that call. She’d do without before she’d beg the McDavids to come over and lend a helping hand.

Removing the rubber nipple suckers, she sighed. She glared at the vibrator she once considered a woman’s best friend. This had been an uneventful evening, but at least she hadn’t groveled for Rex or Luke’s affection.

Then again, she’d thought about calling them, and she still might.

Rex and Luke knew her body better than anyone else, and right over the hill, about three football fields beyond the fence line, two cowboys waited. They could keep waiting, unless of course, she couldn’t make it through the night.

Chapter Seven

Rex was bored. He was in an air-conditioned cab, so he counted his blessings as the sun found its place in the mid-morning sky. Still, he wasn’t in the mood to farm. Lucy had been on his mind while he’d steered that large green tractor through the lower hayfields, and he longed to talk to her, even though he’d made himself a promise.

He would hold out and see if Lucy came to them.

There was something different about her, but he couldn’t place what. She still looked the same. Five years had done little in the way of aging her. She had a better body for sure. Tone and fit, Lucy had mentioned working out, and he’d noticed. He’d also observed another feature, one he was certain must’ve cost her a small fortune. She had a great rack. When Lucy left town, she possessed small breasts. Now, she had full boobs and cleavage.

Rex could get lost in a chest like that. Then again, if she had been as flat as a pancake and he had to search for mosquito bite-size bumps, he would’ve nibbled on those, too, and never complained. He loved Lucy for Lucy. He always had. He was just a good old country cowboy who never knew what he had until he damn near lost the love of his life.

Thank God women and horseshoes had a lot in common. There was always a second chance to claim a stake if the player had a little determination. Rex possessed plenty.

Leaning back, Rex thought of the previous night. The way Lucy’s eyes sparkled under the dim lights warmed his heart. She’d nervously played with her hair, locking one strand around her tiny finger and twisting it around and around. He smiled with the memory, thinking about what her little maneuver had brought to mind—a nice, slow screw, lovemaking on nobody’s time.

Lucy had only gotten prettier, and she was still unaware of her beauty. Luke had acted nervous around her, fidgeting more than normal. Rex wondered if his own angst had been as obvious. He’d tried to mind his manners but failed miserably. They’d both screwed up when they’d inquired about her past. He wondered. Did she have a recent past to speak of? Had she come home to mend a broken heart?

He looked in the large oblong mirror and watched Luke and some of the farm hands as they tossed around a few bales of hay. That’s when he spotted a sports car racing up the gravel road at a high rate of speed.

Bringing the tractor and wagon to a halt, Rex jumped out of the enclosed cab and tilted his head toward Luke. “Any idea who that is?”

Luke wheeled around. Together, they watched the car race toward them. “Somebody’s in a pretty big hurry,” Luke said.

Concerned, Rex, narrowed his gaze on the convertible, able to see now that a young man sat behind the steering wheel. Quicker than a cowboy could strip a woman, the car abruptly stopped in front of them, a cloud of dust settling around them.

Luke removed his hat, coughed dramatically, and waved his arms around his head. Rex stood there in disbelief. This guy, whoever he was, apparently didn’t have any manners.

A young fellow hopped out of the car. Wearing khaki shorts, a white T-shirt, and flip-flops, the kid grinned from ear to ear. “Howdy,” he drawled, his Southern speak hardly a match for his attire.

“Howdy,” Luke drawled.

Rex shot Luke a quick glance. Without a doubt, his brother was set to taunt the young gun.

“Is Lucy around?” the kid inquired.

Luke’s smile faded. “Who’s asking?

Sticking his hand out, he said, “Billy Watson.”

“Luke McDavid. This here is my brother, Rex.”

Rex took the kid’s hand and shook vehemently, careful to keep his eyes pinned to their visitor’s. “Where ya from, kid?”

Billy withdrew his hand, acting as if he were afraid he might lose an arm if he didn’t take a step back. “
Dallas
.”

“Hmm,” Rex muttered. “
Dallas
,
Texas
. You’re a long way from home, aren’t ya?”

Billy shrugged. “From what Lucy said,
Tennessee
is
home for us now.”

Rex snarled. “Really? She said that?”

How had Rex missed this? Immediately, he thought of the night before, revisiting the conversation they’d had with Lucy. Hadn’t she said something about a younger lover? His gaze flickered across Billy. Surely not. This guy was nothing more than a silly boy. He had big dimples, a cleft chin, dancing eyes, and exemplified youth.

“How old are you?”

“Twenty-two. Why?”

Twenty-two’s ass! He was probably still in his late teens. If Rex cared to add a guess, the boy hadn’t figured out his balls weren’t a misplaced potato sack. He laughed at that.

The kid watched him. “Something funny?”

“Nothing,” Rex replied.

“Say you’re movin’ to
Tennessee
, are ya?” Luke asked, grabbing a shirt from the back of the wagon and tossing it over his shoulder.

“Most likely,” Billy said. “Is she home?”

“Who?” Rex asked.

“Lucy. Is she here?” Billy looked from one brother to the next.

“Nope,” Rex said. “We haven’t seen her.”

“But she lives here, right?”

Luke grinned. “Yep. She lives right here in Church Hill.”

“But she hasn’t been here?” Billy asked, rubbing his chin. “I talked to her on the way in, and I could’ve sworn she said she was getting in the shower. That was just a few minutes ago. I was in downtown Church Hill and needed directions. Lucy apparently hasn’t been here in a while. She kept telling me to take a left at the only light in town. There are several traffic lights, so I wasn’t sure where she meant. Apparently, she doesn’t concern herself with street names.

“Whenever I call her for clarification on a route, it’s always points of local interest. Take a left by the dumpsters next to the school, a hard right at the corner store, stay on that road until you come to a four-way, and then go right next to the house with a blue fence.

“Who the hell can follow directions like that?” He shook his head. “I can’t get a physical address out of her. GPS is of no use.”
