Chapter 4

Bec had a healthy group
of customers, but there was an open seat near the end of the bar that had my
name on it. I fell into the stool and dropped my head onto my crossed arms.

“Em, are you all right?!
What did that jerk do to you? For what it’s worth, you look amazing!”

“Oh, Bec, I’m such a
fool.” Tears streamed down my face. She put a glass of wine in front of me,
along with a few napkins to wipe away the tears.

“Take a deep breath and
tell me what happened.”

“I don’t know why I
ever thought this was real. I don’t know why I believed someone like him could
be attracted to someone like me.”

“What’s he got that’s
so special? He doesn’t deserve you!” she declared.

“I was such an idiot
not to find out more about him before I let myself get so into him. He asked me
the other night if I was seeing anybody, and it never even occurred to me to
ask him if he was. He’s so sexy and so seductive. I knew there had to have been
plenty of women before me, but he made me feel like I was special, like I was
the
only
woman in his life. There were two women we ran into tonight at
the restaurant who obviously knew him well, if you know what I mean. It made me
crazy. I just had to get out of there.”

“Did he say that he was
seeing either of them, or anyone else, for that matter?”

“No, I didn’t give him
a chance to. I was so upset. I just ran out and hopped a cab down here as fast
as I could.”

“Em, I know you’re
upset, but maybe you should give him a chance to explain.”

“I don’t want to see
him again, Bec. Even if he had a good explanation and we did start dating
exclusively, I’m not sure I could stand women drooling over him all the time. Obviously,
I have a very jealous streak that I can’t control.”

“Well, why don’t you
sleep on it and make that decision tomorrow? You’ve had a roller coaster of a
night, which is probably not the best time to make such heavy decisions. Get
some rest, and we can talk about it tomorrow. I don’t need to be here until
four. We can even go out for lunch if you feel like it.”

“You’re probably right,”
I conceded. Bec stepped down the bar to pour another drink for one of the barflies
as I sipped the wine. She looked back at me, and her eyes widened.

“Do you want to tell me
what has you so upset?” Adam was leaning down behind me, talking close to my
ear so I could hear him over the din of the room. As I turned, he slid up to
the bar next to my chair.
How the hell did he find me here?
He smiled
slightly. “I thought we were getting along pretty well.”

“Adam, what are you
doing here?”

“I thought we had a
date? I think I deserve an explanation as to why you ran out on me.”

Bec walked over and
introduced herself. “Hi, I’m Bec,” she said, holding out her hand to shake his.
“Can I get you something?”

“Hi, Bec. Adam.” He
looked down at me and said, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Bec nodded, then looked
at me with a smile, as if to say,
Talk to the man. Don’t screw this up!
When
she walked away, I tried to gain my composure and my resolve, and be honest
with him.

“Adam, there are
obviously a lot of other women in your life. You don’t need me.”

He looked shocked. “What
are you talking about?”

I took a deep breath
and started ticking them off with my fingers. “Well, there’s
Sandy
and
Sophia,
for starters. And that was in the span of fifteen minutes in one place. I can
only imagine the string of girlfriends you have all over the city. For God’s
sake, Adam, you’re gorgeous and sexy and can have your pick of any woman you
want. I don’t want to be part of that.” I surprised myself at the resolve in my
voice. He really was stunning, and I wanted to be
the
woman in his life
more than I could stand or was willing to admit to him.

Staring at me with
those seductive blue eyes, he was silent for a moment. He wrapped his arm
around the back of my chair, tickling my bare arm with electric touch. “Emily,
I don’t have a string of girlfriends. Actually, I don’t even have one
girlfriend. Yes, there have been women in my life, and I do have acquaintances
who are women” - he paused - “like
Sandy
and
Sophia,
” he said,
mocking the tone I had used when I said their names. It made me laugh. “There’s
that beautiful smile,” he said gently. He reached up, held my face in his
velvety-soft hand, and kissed me tenderly. My stomach turned upside down. If I
hadn’t been sitting, I probably would have fainted.

Bec came back with his
wine. She put it down and walked away so we could keep talking. I started to
explain again. “It’s just that….”

He put his forefinger
over my lips to stop me from talking, the same way he had the first night we
met. “Give me a chance,” he said, and kissed the top of my head. I caught Bec’s
eyes as he kissed me, and she was mouthing,
Go for it!

“I have a very jealous
streak, Adam. I just don’t know if I can handle women drooling over you all the
time.”

He thought for a
moment. “Well, unfortunately I have no control what other women do, but I do
have control over what happens between us. That’s the best I can offer,” he
said, holding my gaze.

I hesitated, and
contemplated his proposal. “I guess that’s fair.”

He kissed me on the
lips, a short, sweet kiss that sent shivers up my spine. The wetness between my
legs was returning rapidly. “Have you eaten? If I recall correctly, we were
supposed to have dinner,” he said somewhat sarcastically.

I rolled my eyes at his
tone and said, “No, and I’m actually getting a little hungry.”

He brushed the hair off
my shoulder and away from my ear. Leaning in, he whispered, “I know a private
dining room where there won’t be any distractions. Are you up for that?” He
kissed my neck.

Another lightning bolt
shot through me with that kiss, awakening every nerve ending in my body. If we
hadn’t been at Bec’s bar, I probably would have kissed him with one of those “fuck
me now” kisses, but I didn’t want to cause a scene and embarrass her.

“That sounds nice,” I
said, trying to act nonchalant.

Adam called Bec over to
settle the check. “Those are on me.” She beamed. “Have a great evening,” she
added, clearing our glasses.

As Adam and I walked
out into the cool night air, I took a deep breath, trying to maintain my composure,
but burning with desire for him. A cab screeched to a halt in front of us, and
Adam helped me in.

“The Point Hotel,” he
told the driver. His place.

The street lights whipped
in rhythm across his chiseled features as we flew uptown. He took my hand, and kissed
it lightly. “We can order room service, and I’ll even ask the kitchen to send a
male waiter to deliver the food,” he teased.

“That would be nice,” I
responded, teasing him back. He laughed then let go of my hand and gently slid
his fingers along my thigh. When he got to the garter, he circled it with his
finger and snapped it against my leg. The sting sent a shiver through me.

“I’m getting very
hungry,” he groaned. The anticipation of being with him was escalating to fever
pitch, rattling me to the core. I could hardly breathe.

We arrived at The Point,
and the doorman opened the cab door. Adam got out and offered me his hand to
help me out of the car. “Good evening, Mr. Comstock,” the doorman said with a
slight bow. “Ma’am,” he muttered in my direction as he opened the door of the
hotel.

Adam had his hand firmly
on the small of my back, guiding me to the bank of elevators that would whisk
us skyward. The cowboy boots seemed to enhance the swagger in his stride as we
walked.

The elevator ride to
his eighth-floor suite felt like an eternity. When we arrived at his suite, the
green lights on the lock danced, granting us entry. We stepped inside, where the
city lights illuminated the otherwise dark room. We were only a few steps inside
when he grabbed my arm and pulled me into him. “I want you, Emily,” he said,
almost breathless.

My heart pounded as he
pressed against me with the wall at my back. He slid his hand over my butt and
down my leg, lifting it to wrap around him. Nudging a couple of fingertips up
my thigh and under the small swath of lace, he discovered my slick, silky
wetness.

“Oh, Emily!” he growled,
and kissed me hard. “You drive me wild!” One more passionate kiss and he swiftly
moved across the room to pull the sheer layer of curtains closed, diffusing the
light and providing privacy from the outside world. I was frozen, transfixed with
his every movement. He shrugged out of his jacket and swiped a finger over his
iPad, bringing it to life. A few taps and sultry jazz filled the air.

The music broke my
trance, and I moved slowly toward him. He took my chin in both of his powerful hands,
tilting my head until our lips met. His supple lips and tender kisses wakened
every nerve ending in my body. I wrapped my arms around his neck and tugged at
his silky hair. We were in a full embrace, tongues entangled. I felt
light-headed as my feet no longer touched the floor. He slid his arm under my
knees and swept me completely off my feet. My back hit the couch, and he was suspended
over me, staring deeply into my eyes. I slowly unbuttoned a few buttons of his crisp
shirt, not breaking his gaze. His skin was moist with sweat as I slid my
fingers over his hard pecs, and fondled his nipples. His heartbeat pounded against
my fingertips, throbbing in sync with my clit, aching for his touch. He moaned
softly, and his biceps flexed as he lowered himself gently on top of me. He
pressed his hips into mine, the unmistakable hardness between us letting me
know his appetite for me was growing.

Our faces were inches
apart, eyes transfixed. “Are you hungry?” he asked, suggestively. I knew he
wasn’t talking about dinner.

“Oh, yes…,” I whispered,
exploding with anticipation.

He shot to his feet and
held out his hand for me to follow. As he sauntered into the bedroom, he tugged
at his shirttail and finished unbuttoning his shirt. The glow of the city filtered
through the sheer drapes as they did in the sitting room. There was just enough
light to see clearly, and the music continued softly from the other room. “Dancing
Fantasy” played in the background as Adam sat down at the bottom of the luxurious
king-size bed and spread his legs, inviting me to stand between them. I took a
step closer and slid my hands inside his open shirt, running my fingertips up
his torso and circled his nipples. His body was so tight. I felt the ripple of
his abs as my fingers rolled over them. He reached under my dress and fondled the
garters but didn’t release them. My knees trembled. I grabbed his shoulders, squeezing
tightly, bracing myself as his nimble fingertips tickled my thighs.

He took my hands and licked
my palms. I thought I might come just from the command of his artful tongue on
the soft flesh. He placed my hands back on his shoulders and circled his arms
around my back, deftly unzipping my dress. His actions were like a rerun of the
fantasy I’d had in the dressing room, but this was no fantasy. His velvety fingers
slid the soft fabric off my shoulders and down my arms until the dress fell into
a puddle around my ankles. He hands were planted firmly on my hips, steadying
me as I stepped out of the circle of fabric. I flushed; my skin was on fire. I
stood facing him in my Lise Charmel ensemble as his penetrating eyes drank in
every inch of me.

He leaned back to get a
wider view. “Wow!” he whispered. He sat up and pulled me toward him, driving
his nose into my cleavage and taking a deep breath. “Your fragrance is enchanting,”
he purred. His shrewd tongue traced the top edges of my bra as he slipped the
straps off my shoulders and folded the lace away from my swollen, tender
breasts. My breathing quickened. He sucked my nipple into his mouth, and nipped
at it with his teeth. The image of him sipping the wine the first night we met
flashed through my mind. He was tasting me the same way he had tasted the fine
wine.

Still savoring a nipple,
he slid his fingers down my back and inside my lace panties, engulfing my ass
in his enormous hands, pulling me closer. A wave of aching desire washed over
me. I could feel his erection growing, pushing against the boundaries of his jeans.
“Oh, Emily!” he moaned, a low, deep moan that seemed to reverberate through his
body.

With the precision of a
harpist, he plucked the garters open at my thighs, releasing the silk
stockings. His masterful hands encircled my legs, gently gliding each stocking
to the floor. His tongue tickled my skin as his hands did the work. The small
swath of lace between my thighs was the only obstacle between his shrewd tongue
and my bountiful wetness. He unhooked the black lace bra, fully releasing my
breasts into his custody, and freeing my arms from the restraints of the
lowered straps. I slid his shirt off his toned shoulders and down his arms. Beads
of sweat moistened his skin with every passing moment of heightening arousal. He
braced himself, leaning backward and gazing at me as if fucking me with his
eyes. I felt self-conscious for a fleeting moment, but it totally turned me on
that he was so aroused.
