Miranda’s eyes welled up.

“You’re not too bad yourself, you know. I’ve never been able to get close to anyone, but you didn’t let that stop you. You kept pushing and pushing at my boundaries until I let you in. Of course, now I’m making you sound like a stalker.”

Bryce laughed and pulled her back down for another kiss.

Miranda kissed him for a minute before continuing.

“But seriously, Bryce, I love you. I love you more than I ever thought I could. Isn’t it interesting how Arc Angel almost destroyed us, but actually managed to do the impossible: she brought both of us back to life.”

Bryce brushed his fingers against her cheek.

“I don’t think that was Arc Angel, I think that was plain old Miranda James.”

Miranda’s face grew hot and she knew a bright pink blush must be covering her face, but the irrational self-consciousness that she’d always felt had disappeared. Now it was the emotion in Bryce’s voice that overwhelmed her.

She laid her hand against his cheek and looked into his eyes, blinking to keep the tears out of her own.

This time Bryce tried to lighten the mood.

“Let’s see. We’ve established that we’re both crazy about each other and that my heart is as strong and healthy as an ox’s. So that just leaves your powers. Are they really gone?”

Miranda raised the hand she had wrapped around Bryce’s shoulder and held it up for inspection.

“That’s what the tests said. No sign of any abnormality.”

“Fantastic. Then all systems are go here.”

And Bryce pulled a laughing Miranda back down against his chest.

“You know the best way to make sure everything is truly okay is to run a few tests.” He ran his fingers down her arm, which sent a shiver of delight down her spine.

“Yes,” he continued, “I think we’ll need to get my heart rate up and see what happens. Do you have any ideas on how we might do that?”

His wandering hand slid under the edge of her shirt and covered her lower back. The warmth was delicious.

“Racquetball?”

He tickled her ribs until she squealed.

“Tennis?”

He growled and rained kisses down her neck, making her squirm with pleasure.

“So no racquet sports at all then?”

His hand slid from its position on her lower back around her side to her stomach and began to inch upward. Miranda gasped as his fingers found her breast.

“I may have a better idea after all,” Miranda gulped.

“I knew you’d think of something,” he sighed.

Bryce grasped the edge of her t-shirt and pulled it up over her head. Once she was free of the shirt, she wrapped her arms back around him, one hand tangling in his hair as he brought his mouth back to hers.

She may not be able to control electricity anymore, but she felt like the most powerful being on earth. Somehow, she’d caused Bryce Campion to fall in love with her. Maybe she really was a superhero, after all.

As she ran her hand down Bryce’s cheek, a faint sheen of blue crackled over her hand for an instant before it disappeared.
