“Shit, I’d forgotten all about that. Yeah, we used to do some fucked up shit. Didn’t we?”

“Sure did.”

“Come on,” I pulled her up out of her chair. “Let’s go for a ride.”

“Where to?”

“Trust me. Let’s go.”

I grabbed her hand and led her through the Commons as we passed everyone. Out on the lot, I tossed her a helmet.

“Hop on,” I straddled my chromed out Harley.

“Where are we going?”

“I’ll let you know when we get there.”

She climbed on behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist and held on tight as we rode off with the cool evening breeze whisking against our faces.
That’s right babe, get used to wrapping yourself around me.

Parking the bike, I looked back at her when I shut off the engine.

“Remember this place?”

“I can’t believe it! How’d you remember?” she handed me her helmet.

“What? You think I’d forget your favorite place? We only came here about three or four… hundred times.”

“Yeah, if I remember right, you liked coming here because they’d serve you booze when we were still in school.”

“Come on, let’s grab a bite to eat. I don’t know about you, but after a good fuck, I need to refuel my body.”

It shouldn’t have surprised me that she’d order her usual.
There wasn’t a thing I’d forgotten about her.

“I must admit, I can’t believe you don’t have a girlfriend.”

“Don’t give me that shit, Raven. You were the one who left all those years ago, and the only reason you’re sitting here now is because you’re playing cop for your buddy, Matty.”

The thing she didn’t know was that I couldn’t stand that bastard. We’d shared a common interest back then—brotherhood within the patch, but he’s the one who fucked that up. Truth was, he was a fucking sell out. Not that she’d ever know that. He might have pulled the wool over her eyes, but that shit didn’t fly with me. The Lords rejected him when his backup plans were leaked to the club by Vic. That was the point when his loyalty to the club was cast into doubt. It was a unanimous vote to strip him of his prospect patch when the prez found out that he’d made plans to go to college if things didn’t work out with the club. Who the fuck does that? When you step up to the patch, you’re all in—or you’re out. I didn’t trust that fucker, and there was no telling what he was putting Raven up to. Serving my brotherhood was the best thing I knew how to do, and that’s what I intended to do.

“I didn’t come here to start shit. You were the one who had that slut parading you around, hand in hand when you came out of your room. I’m not sure why you’re so worried about Matty.”

When she walked out of my life, I fucked everything and anything that had two legs and could walk. But fucking didn’t cure everything, and neither did any amount of liquor or pills I swallowed. I’d tried to cut her out of my life like a cancer, but here she was sitting right in front of me with her perky tits bouncing around, wearing a pair of my old sweats. I wanted to believer her, but I didn’t know if I could trust her. There was no fucking way I could trust him, and if he’d sent her here, I’d fucking kill him myself.

“You fucking around? There’s no way you’re fucking serious.”

“I don’t know, am I?”

My phone went off with a message from the prez. “Come on, I’ll take you back to your car. I got shit to do.”

Chapter 3: Raven

I’d forgotten how much my whole world had ended after my senior year. Sure, I busied myself with school and work, but I hadn’t
lived
since I left all those summers ago. Troy—I mean Chaos—had a way of making me feel alive. I hadn’t prepared for how fucking hot he would be when I saw him again. Nor how damned jealous I’d be when I saw that
whore
holding his hand, dangling it in front of me like it was fucking eye candy. But goddamned if he didn’t make up for it in the bedroom. His massive body pressed against mine as he fucked me senseless.
Jesus, that man could make my pussy cream at the sight of him.

His huge, muscular chest had solid pecks that protruded away from his tight, ripped abs.  A huge Lords of Sin symbol was tatted on the center his chest, along with various other club tattoos. I shivered when I saw it. When I’d seen it on bodies before, they were always dead. Which, thinking back on it now, he never really answered my questions or gave me any insight on why these corpses kept piling up with his brand on ‘em. By the time he had me pinned against the mattress, I’d forgotten all about any murder investigations.

And my fucking God, talk about his arms! He must’ve bench pressed cars as massive as his biceps and forearms were. When he picked me up outta that chair, I worried that he might accidentally hurl me across the room with the force he used. My pussy started dripping with each button that popped off my dress when his burly hands ripped it open. He was a deadly drug, and I was addicted to it bad. I’d needed my fix for a long time, and boy did he fucking deliver. His thick, rigid cock filled my pussy completely when he crammed it deep inside of me. That dangerous look in his dark eyes while he pumped me full of his cum was enough to make my nipples stand on end as I extracted every last drop out of his balls.

But I knew why I had to leave when I did. The way we used to be, that wouldn’t have been good for either one of us. When I had started hanging out with him, and sometimes the club, we were always breaking the law and doing drugs. No, I didn’t want to leave him or that life, but if I ever wanted to make something of myself, I had no other choice. I regretted leaving the instant I saw him, especially with
her.
We may have had a lustful relationship back then, but I’d never gotten him outta my mind. No matter how many guys I’d fucked while away at college, they couldn’t compete with him. It was the best fucking cock I’d ever had, the sex was mind-blowing—and he knew it, too.

“You gonna snap out of it today or what?” Amber asked as she finished up the rest of the paperwork from that morning’s autopsy.

“Yeah, I’m helping, aren’t I?”

“Sorry. You’ve been so…distant. It’s like something’s distracting you. Is everything okay?”

“To be honest with you, I went somewhere last night. And I can’t stop thinking about it.”

“Go on,” she pressed.

“All right, but if I tell you this, it has to stay between us. Nothing gets repeated—and I mean, NOTHING.”

“Raven, you know I won’t say anything.”

Judging by the look on her face, she knew I meant business. And the only reason I didn’t want anything getting out was because I knew I’d crossed the line trying to insert myself into the investigation. Even though I’d done it, I didn’t want my ass on the line. Things had to stay quiet.

“I didn’t say anything yesterday because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but when I got off work…” I paused when I heard someone coming in.

“Hey my lovely ladies,” Matty burst through the door. “Guess what I have for you?”

“It better be donuts.” After the wild fuck I’d had last night, I was famished.

“Ha,ha. Funny cop joke, right? And the answer to that is no. Take a look.”

Scanning the police report, I saw that it was a burn victim who didn’t make it. “Okay?”

“Another one turned up late last night. His cut was melted into his skin. The doctors tried to save him, but it was too late. He didn’t make it.”

Studying the report closer, I saw that it was another MC member. This one was burned alive. “What the fuck’s going on? Where’s he at?”

“They’re transporting the body now. I told them that you’d want to do the examination on this guy.”

“Why? If the hospital declared him dead, why is he on his way here?”

Matty shrugged. “Make it more official for the police investigation if the medical examiner’s office handled each of the homicides.”

“How much time do we have?”

“Should be here within the hour. Mind if I do?” he poured himself a cup of coffee.

“I’m stepping out for a break.”

Before I even got out of the office, I saw them pulling in with the body.
So much for that fucking break.
Heading back inside, I saw Matty trying to chat up Amber. I saved her from hearing another one of his boring cop stories when I walked back in.

“They’re here.”

Putting on a pair of rubber gloves, I unzipped the body bag. The obnoxious odor of burnt, rotting flesh wafted toward my nostrils. Amber almost vomited at the sight and smell.

“Grab some Vick’s and slather a good layer under your nose. It’ll help cover the stench.”

Matty didn’t bat an eye as he sipped coffee from his Styrofoam cup. He’d sat through plenty of autopsies, and Amber was still kind of new to everything. Performing the autopsy, I noticed something that the hospital had missed.
Maybe it was good that they brought him here.
The Lords’ symbol was carved into his collar bone, but it was hard to see since it had melted into his flesh when he’d been lit on fire.

“Matty, not only did they burn this one alive, but there’s a symbol on his body.” Pointing to the symbol, “See it right there? They made their mark on him before they sat him on fire.”

“The Lords again? Who the hell are they at war with? This shit’s gettin’ serious.”

After learning about Chaos’s role in the club as the enforcer, I started to wonder if he was somehow involved in these murders. He did abruptly end our time together after receiving that phone call. Could he have dropped me off to go…take care of
club business?
But why would he go on damned a killing spree? When we’d talked last night, he’d said that somebody was dragging their name through the mud and that his club was clean. Was it a cover-up? Knowing him, there’s no telling what he’s hiding. Like Matty said, his lips were sealed when it came to talking about
club business.
Just like they always were. Debating on whether or not I should tell Matty that Chaos said his club wasn’t involved, I decided against it. The less people that knew about my little visit to the clubhouse and my dealings with Chaos, the better. I’d almost told Amber, but Matty ruined it before I could even get started.

They were staring at me like a couple of goons when I’d broken my trance. “What?” I snapped.

“What the hell are you thinking about over there? Didn’t you hear us talkin’ to ya?” Matty asked.

“No, I didn’t. I had an idea, though. What do you know about the other local area MCs?”

“Enough. Why?”

“Are any of them at war with one another? Maybe there’s a shit storm brewing on the home front between them and they’re trying to divert attention. They could be setting up the Lords.”

“Nah, there’s nothin’ like that going on. I’m the Sergeant around here. I’d be the first one to know about something like that going on in my county,” he stuck his thumbs in the waist of his pants, pulling them up while showing off his giant, annoying belt buckle. Knowing him, he’d probably polished it that morning before getting dressed. He acted like it was a goddamned hood ornament for his dick.

“Right, Matty, because the presidents would come running to the big bad cops letting them know they were in trouble, right? You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me.”

“Look little missy, I know a thing or two about law enforcement. Why don’t you stick to the dead bodies that can’t do any talkin’ and let me do my job. Besides, I gotta feelin’ that enforcer from the Lords is behind all this.”

“Don’t be an ass, Sergeant.” I narrowed my eyes. “Even though I’m a seasoned medical examiner, sometimes I overlook shit. Nobody wants to admit that they’re not perfect, but maybe it’s possible that you’re overlooking something. Maybe one of the other MC’s fed you a buffet of bullshit before they told you to have a nice day and they kicked you out of their clubhouse.”

“I don’t like…”

Amber cut Matty off before he could start in on me. Even though she was new, she’d seen enough to know that Matty and I would hash it out until my boss would come in to break things up.

“I think you both have some valid points.”
Suck up!
“Maybe if everyone just stuck to their jobs and the facts, we could all work together more efficiently. Raven, is there anything else on the body? Anymore clues?”

“No.”

“I don’t know about that, Ms. Perfect. Why doesn’t your
imperfect
ass take another look? You know, cause we all miss something sometimes.”

If looks could kill, that motherfucker would’ve been laying on the floor dead as a door nail. Giving him a death stare, I took another glance at the body before finalizing the autopsy. “No, the only marking is the one I pointed out before. Finish the paperwork.”

As much as I hated to admit it, maybe he had a point. I didn’t like thinking Chaos was behind any of this, but given his status within the club, I could see it. With his dangerous temper and enormous size, he was more than capable of beating the hell out of any one of these guys and killing them, but there’d be no way any of the Lords would talk.
Maybe meeting up with him last night was a bad idea.
If he was behind these murders and thought I was sticking my nose where it didn’t belong….
God, I’d hate to think what he’d do to me.
What if he thought I was getting too suspicious or catching on to something.
Would he kill me too?

After Matty left, Amber tried to revive the conversation that we’d started before he came in and interrupted us. There was no way I was going to tell her anything. Not now. It was bad enough I had my own suspicions and ideas. I didn’t want to give her the same ones. Best just to keep my mouth shut. No way I’d ever be able to live with myself if I had to perform her autopsy.

“Nothing. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”

“But Raven, if something’s bothering you, you have to talk to someone. I already promised I wouldn’t say anything.”

“Some things are better left alone. Help me clean up this lab so we can get out of here early.” Suddenly, being surrounded by corpses didn’t make me feel all warm and cozy inside like it normally did with the thought of ending up like one. The MC world was a dangerous one. One that I wasn’t prepared for. He’d kept me so locked out that I legit feared for my life.

“Whatever.”

Feeling bad for giving her the cold shoulder, I told her she could go home early. I’d clean up myself. Like a good newb, she stayed with me until everything was sterilized and put away.

“If you change your mind, I’m a good listener,” she said as we headed out for the evening.

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

Poor girl. She was only trying to be nice, but I didn’t want her to have the same weight on her shoulders as I had on mine. I needed to talk to Chaos. He might not shed any light on the situation, but I had to be sure that he meant it when he said he didn’t have anything to do with these murders. Something inside of me wanted to believe him and
needed
to trust him. I’d take anything at this point to get his name in the clear. I needed to know that I was safe. If his club really wasn’t behind all of this, I needed to know who was to keep myself safe. It was me, after all, who was discovering all of the identifying information and giving it to police.
