Chapter Fourteen

Within the confines of Chris's car, Callie sat beside him silently. She fidgeted, glancing at his profile every three seconds, wondering if the magic between them had died at the golf course.

Since they've entered the car Chris has been silent, making Callie silent...and the silence was killing her. She had so many questions. Why did he kiss her? Did he like her? Will he kiss her again? Where was their relationship heading now? What was he thinking at this very moment?

The hard expression on his face prevented her from asking. He seemed so unapproachable now, like he had put a firm wall between them with a DO NOT DISTURB sign. Sighing, Callie shivered and wrapped her arms around herself. Even though he had put the heater on full blast, she couldn't wait to change out of her wet clothes.

Abel still has my keys
, she thought.
Guess I'll just have to put the clothes I had on last night until he shows up. If he ever shows up.
It would seem that Abel was playing Mr. Matchmaker.

Pressing two fingers against her lips, she glanced at Chris again. Her very being still tingled from the kiss they shared. She should confess now...tell him the truth but she dreaded his reaction. She knew that he would not take it well. Dare she hope that he was so in love with her that he'd forgive her in the end right away?

But a guy like Chris can't be in love with someone like me
, Callie thought sadly. Maybe he had just kissed her out of curiosity.
I hope he's not getting attracted to guys...that would seriously suck!
It would be very ironic if she was the cause of his sudden attraction to guys.

When they reached their apartment, Chris wordlessly parked the car in front of it and stepped out. Callie stepped out the car after him and closed it, watching him walk around the car towards the apartment building. Silently, she followed him up the stairs to his apartment.

Timidly, she walked inside after him and waited by the opened door. Chris paused and looked back at her. "What?" It was the first word he had spoken since they left the golf course.

Callie fidgeted, wringing her hands in front of her. "C-Chris...if you don't want me hanging around your place I can wait outside-"

"Don't be stupid." He disappeared into the bathroom and came out with two large blue towels. He tossed one to Callie and used the one he had to dry his hair. "Go ahead and take a shower."

"I don't have any clean clothes..."

"I'm going to find Abel and get your keys back," he said, peeling his wet tank top from his body.

Callie blushed and averted her eyes. She stared down at the carpet. "Um...okay." She heard more shuffling and dared to glance up to find Chris completely naked in the hallway. Well not completely naked, he was wearing briefs but...
Oh my
. With his back turned to her, she could see the muscles flexing on his broad back...and all that delicious sun-kissed skin....that firm butt that was almost see through with its dampness...

Swallowing, Callie stared at the ground again. Was he testing her or something? Or just being a tease? She continued to stare at the carpet for a few more minutes until Chris walked out his room dressed in a dry pair of blue jeans and black shirt.

"I'll take a shower when I come back." He walked passed her. "Lock the door."

She watched him leave. He had acted as if nothing had happened between them. Closing the door and locking it, she stared at the knob before walking into Chris's room where she had left her dry clothes from last night on his bed. Clutching the blue towel against her, her vision started to blur with tears.

Sniffling, she picked up her clothes and dragged her feet to the bathroom.
Oh Chris
, she thought mournfully,
what are you thinking now? Why do you shut me out?

Locking the bathroom door in case Chris decided to come back right away, she placed the towel and her clothes on the toilet cover and turned on the shower. She watched the water steam up and sniffled again.

He'll probably kick me out as soon as he get the keys from Abel.
He probably couldn't wait to do it. Why else would he go to Abel himself to get her keys?
I knew I'd regret kissing him
. Deep down she didn't regret the kiss but the havoc it would cause afterwards.

After her hot shower, she dressed in her dry clothes and hung the wet clothes on the shower curtain rod so it would dry out. She stuffed her wet panty and bra in a black plastic bag she found in the kitchen. After tidying up the bathroom, she sat on one of the kitchen chairs facing the front door and waited, clutching the black plastic bag against her.

Chris slammed his car door closed and stalked towards Abel's salon. He swung the door open and ignored the curious stares from the customers and found the guy he wanted to choke.

"Abel," he growled, striding towards his elusive brother. "I knew you'd be here."

"Chris!" Abel smiled brightly. "Excuse me, dear," he said to his customer and sauntered over to meet Chris. "Hello, darling baby brother."

"Shut up," Chris snapped and held out a hand. "Give me Cal's keys."

"Keys?" Abel blinked innocently. "I don't recall-"

"Abel," Chris's eyes narrowed, a warning in his voice. "I'm not in the mood to play your games, brother. Now hand over the keys."

"Chris!" Mizz Ivory walked out the salon office and smiled. "How is our Cal?" She winked. "Did you two have a good time last night?"

Chris glared at her. "Do you have Cal's keys?"

"What keys?" Ivory stepped in next to Abel and tried to look innocent.

Chris glowered at them both. "Stop it, I'm serious. Give me the keys."

Abel looked at his brother thoughtfully. "Chris, where's Cal?"

"My place. Now give me the keys so he can go back into his."

"What did you do to him?" Abel glared accusingly. Something wasn't right. Chris wasn't acting like himself.

Swearing under his breath, Chris ran a hand through his damp hair in frustration. "Damn it, Abel, I didn't do anything to him. We just want his keys back. You were suppose to bring it this morning but you never showed up and you haven't been answering my calls."

"What's going on?" Abel asked, "why do you look like that? What happened?"

"Nothing happened, Mr. Nosy." Chris sighed. "Now, will you give me the keys or do I have to turn this place upside down to find it?"

"What's the rush?" Ivory asked.

"Cal needs clean clothes."

"Is that all?" Abel's intuition was telling him that something was up.

Chris paused. "I'm taking him out."

"Out where?"

"It's none of your damn business, Abel. Now give me the keys."

"Well someone's grouchy," Mizz Ivory hummed, earning another glare from Chris.

"He said he's taking our Cal out, Ivory," Abel mused, glancing at his partner in crime. "What do you make of that?"

"Hmm." Mizz Ivory tapped her chin. "Could it be...a date?"

Abel and Ivory stared at Chris, brows raised in question.

"Oh for the love of-" Chris rolled his eyes. "Yes, I'm taking him out on a..." he paused, not believing he was about to say this. "On a date."

Mizz Ivory squealed with delight. "Oooh did you hear that, Abel? Chris is taking our Cal in a date!"

"Keys." Chris wiggled his fingers under Abel's nose.

"Hmph!" Abel produced Callie's keys from his pocket and handed them to Chris. "Don't hurt him, Chris. There's things you don't know about Cal yet so think carefully on your actions before you do them."

Chris turned and walked away without another word, Abel's cryptic words churning in his mind.

***

Callie stifled a yawn, starting to doze as she waited for Chris. It's already been an hour since he had left her in his apartment to get her keys from Abel.

She shot up when she heard the door opening and Chris stepped in and closed the door behind him. Smiling sleepily at him, she said "Hi."

Chris walked up to her and placed her keys on the glass table. "Go to your apartment and get dressed. We're going out."

"Out?" She rubbed her eyes and looked up at him. "Where are we going?"

"On a date."

Callie sighed.
Here we go again
. "Chris, I don't want to go on anymore blind dates with your friends. I'm tired of it."

Chris stared down at her, looking grim. "You're not going out on a date with anyone...but me."

Her jaw dropped. "W-what!?"

"You heard me." Chris started walking towards his room, Callie staring after him with wide eyes. "Go get dressed. Something nice."

I must be dreaming
, Callie thought.
He did not just ask me out on a date. Impossible!

Chris paused in front of the bedroom entrance and looked back at her. "Well?" He lifted a brow at her. "Do you want to go on a date with me or not?"

Callie nodded slowly, eyes still as wide as an owl.

An amused closed lip smile played on the corner of Chris's mouth before he said "Then go get dressed while I take a shower...or did you want to join me?"

Dazed, Callie nodded then quickly shook her head, face turning pink. "No!"

Chuckling, Chris nodded. "Then get ready."

Twenty minutes later Callie was in her apartment, staring at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. She was already dressed in black dress pants and a vanilla collared shirt. She finished buttoning up the front as she stared at her face in the mirror. Even now her eyes were still wide with disbelief.

Chris asked her out on a date!
Maybe I imagined it
, she thought, making a face. Her poor lovesick mind had made that scene all up. No...it had been real.

"Oh god," she whispered, starting to panic. "What am I going to wear!?" She paused. "No wait, I've already picked out what I'm going to wear." Callie stepped back and studied her formal attire. She was still round around the hips and waist but...she didn't look too bad. The loss of almost sixty pounds had made a dramatic change in her figure. Forty more to go and she'd look like a supermodel!

Or not
. Callie sighed and straightened her shirt. She turned to her side and sucked in her stomach. She let it out when she realized she couldn't possibly hold her breath through the whole date just to make her stomach look flatter. At least it wasn't sticking out of the flimsy shirt.

"My hair!" She cried, panicking again. How should she wear her hair? Callie grabbed the comb and stared at her hair. It had grown a little past her chin now, contrasting well with her round features.

"Maybe this will work." She parted her hair on the side and combed it over her face. "If Justin Bieber can where is hair like this...then so can I." Callie did the Bieber hair flip and grinned. Not mad.

"What about lip gloss?" Callie rummaged through her drawers. A little lip gloss wouldn't hurt right? Chris had already seen her wearing it last night. Finding cherry lip gloss in the drawer, she ran the liquid against her lips. "There." She studied her reflection. "Huh, not bad." It was nice to have clear skin now, powder makeup wasn't necessary.

"Maybe just a little eye-shadow." She paused. Guys didn't wear eye-shadows...then again she was suppose to be a gay guy. Callie grinned. "The advantages of being gay." Humming, she added a discreet amount of eye-shadow and pinched her cheeks to bring a pinkish color to them.

Callie smiled at herself in the mirror. "Wow...I don't look half bad." What would Chris think?

"I'm going out on a date with Chris," she told her reflection in wonder. She didn't know where he was going to take her or what made him decide to to go on a date but..."I'm going out on a date with Chris." Callie shrieked. "I'M GOING OUT ON A DATE WITH CHRIS!!"

Callie flew out the bathroom and into the kitchen where she turned on the radio. "I'm going on a date with Chris" She laughed and spun around with excitement. "Date! Date! Date!"

Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock n Roll" started playing on the radio and Callie danced to it, shaking her round butt. "Uh huh, uh huh," she shook her butt, "I'm going on a date with Chris. Uh huh, uh huh!"

She was so into what she was doing that she didn't hear the door open or seen Chris slid inside her apartment. In her haste she had forgotten to lock the door earlier. Chris leaned against the wall and watched Cal dancing, head banging to the music.

An amused smile crept on his lips as he watched Cal get really into dancing. Cal even dropped down and slid back up with ease. Crossing his arms, Chris watched and waited for Cal to realize that he was there.

"I reminisce about the days of old," Cal sang, shaking his chest, " with that ol time rock n' roll!"

When the music ended and Cal still hadn't noticed him, Chris said "Am I interrupting?"

Callie shrieked and turned around to find Chris leaning against the wall by the door, looking sinfully handsome and at ease. Her wide eyes took him in, his silk black collared shirt that was halfway unbuttoned, revealing tantalizing sun-kissed skin. The black dress pants and shiny shoes. He wore a black blazer over the shirt and he looked oh so devilishly handsome in it. It wasn't just the clothes but the confidence he carried. Raw...sexual. Sensual.
