Kat lowered herself slowly, savouring the feel of him. She scratched at his chest, raking her nails so they left little red trails. Vincent gasped, arching into her, burying himself to the hilt.

She liked watching him. His face was no longer lost in its usual sea of confusion. Now he was focused, driven by their single purpose. Vincent stared at her breasts, his eyes glinting in the soft light.

‘Ah, yeah,’ he said, stroking her clit in small circles as she rode him in shallow thrusts. All she could do was moan in breathy response. ‘That’s it, my butterfly. Just like that.’

The strange endearment made her giddy with pleasure. They said nothing about their feelings, but when he looked at her, there was something in his eyes that touched her on a deep level. He grabbed her hips, rocking into her as if savouring each movement. She wanted this, loved the feel of his body inside of hers.

‘Vincent,’ she whispered, over and over, unable to think beyond that one word.

Suddenly, her pussy clenched as she orgasmed. Vincent
kept going, grunting softly towards the primal moment of completion. Trembling, she dug her nails into his flesh. His hips jerked and he came, gripping her waist tightly. She’d never felt anything like it. Maybe it was fanciful, metaphorical nonsense, but she felt as if she were flying.

‘Vincent,’ she gasped, awed by the man. He took her breath away. Shaking her head in wonder, she dropped onto his chest. A light sheen of sweat covered her flesh, but she didn’t care. ‘Wow.’

Her hair had come undone and strands of it stuck to her back. He pulled them aside, as he urged her next to him on the bed. Kat snuggled against the length of him. With Jack she’d always been ready for space after sex, but with Vincent, she didn’t want to move.

‘Don’t leave, butterfly,’ he said, his voice so soft she barely heard the words.

‘No.’ She rested her hand next to his heart. The steady thud of it was comforting. ‘I won’t leave.’

Chapter Nine

Kat smiled at Zoe. In fact, she smiled at everyone who passed by them, but she couldn’t stop. The last few blissful days with Vincent were like the happy ending to a movie. Their lips locked, their eyes met and she heard violins playing in the background. OK, no violins, but once when he kissed her, a drunk had been screaming at the top of his lungs about aliens and that was close enough for her.

It was Sunday and the afternoon was beautifully warm. A light breeze swept over the outdoor seating area of the small coffee shop. About a block away was a major chain store, but the privately owned business had a uniqueness that kept its doors open despite the corporate competition. Bright orange and red punctuated the beatnik artwork and round metal tables. Wrought iron fencing blocked in the dining area from the rest of the sidewalk. Plants hung from the awning, bright flowers in dark-red pots, and around the side of the building was an old balcony supported by a stone base. In the spring, an acting troupe did the famous balcony scene from
Romeo and Juliet
on it to entertain those who passed by.

‘What is with you?’ Zoe demanded, taking a sip of cappuccino.

Instead of answering, Kat toyed with the thin overlay material on her skirt, lifting it up to examine the hem. The brick-red dress had a thick see-through strip along the waist, knitted halter-style top and a flowing print chiffon skirt. They were alone. Sasha was supposed to
join them, but she had called at the last minute saying she couldn’t make it.

‘Kat?’ Zoe asked, insistent.

‘You know, sis, I could see you owning a place like this. We could call it Glowy Zoe’s. Then you could cook your own menu and drink coffee all day with –’

‘My famous photographer sister who comes to drink away my profits?’ Zoe broke in, teasingly.

‘Yeah,’ Kat said under her breath, her smile faltering.

‘What?’ Zoe asked. Her face fell as she reached across the metal table. ‘Oh, Kat, no I’m sorry. I didn’t intend for it to sound mean. I really don’t mind feeding you. You’re my sis. I like being able to help you out. I hope you know that.’

‘Oh, I know, it’s just the famous part,’ Kat said. ‘I think it might be time to give up that dream.’

‘Oh, honey, no. Don’t think like that. I know you’re going to make it.’ Zoe patted her hand. ‘I saw you with Mr Bug Man –’

‘Vincent,’ Kat corrected automatically.

‘Yeah, I saw you with Vincent,’ Zoe said, not missing a beat. ‘I think it’s going great. You should definitely keep up the friend date thing. The sisters don’t mind him at all and I’m free from the restaurant next weekend. Chef Tyrant is doing a live cooking show and I’m not allowed to be there.’

‘That’s bullshit!’ Kat exclaimed.

‘It is what it is.’ Zoe shrugged, but Kat could tell she was frustrated. ‘Now, about Vincent, I was thinking we could all go out. It’d be nice to see what Ella and Sasha keep raving about.’

‘Ella and Sasha rave about Vincent?’

‘Uh-huh.’ Zoe nodded enthusiastically, picking up her drink. ‘Ella especially. In fact, I think she might have a little crush on him. Even Megan said it was too bad you weren’t serious about the man. We all like him better than Jack.’

Kat looked down at her espresso. ‘I don’t think I can do it.’

‘What do you mean?’

‘It seems wrong.’ Kat shrugged, taking too quick a drink. Choking on the hot liquid, she fanned her mouth as pain seared her tongue.

‘Oh, Kat, oh!’ Zoe fanned at her face before grabbing her ice water and handing it over. ‘Drink this.’

Kat did, letting an ice cube sit in her mouth. Mumbling around it, she said, ‘
I muprfh mifth I camfuet
.’

‘Sure you can,’ Zoe assured her.

‘No,
mitz no meam
.’

‘It’s mean?’ Zoe repeated.

Kat nodded, glad Zoe could translate her.

‘Using him to further your career?’ Zoe asked.

Kat nodded again.

‘You had sex with him, didn’t you?’

Kat nodded, dropping her head on her arms. She stared at the metal table and swallowed the rest of the ice cube. Her mouth was still sore, but she ignored it. ‘The same day you saw us at Sedurre and several times since then.’

‘Let me guess, you think because you were hired to help him learn to date in exchange for a shot at Faux Pas, you’re a bad person. And, since we both know you’re not a bad person, you think your only option is to either break it off with him thus ending your chance at Faux Pas, or to tell his meddling parents to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine so you can date him guilt free thus ending your chance at Faux Pas.’

Kat nodded, moaning, ‘Mmm-hmm.’

‘That is a tough one,’ Zoe said, getting quiet for a long time.

Kat peeked up at her and saw a thoughtful look on her face. She knew Zoe would come up with a solution.

‘Well,’ Zoe said at last. ‘You could look at it this way. Technically, you’ve only been dating him for a few days, and then only if one of you has verbally said this is more
than just sex for fun. No one is expected to tell everything about themselves until at least three months have passed in a relationship. So, I see no reason why you have to decide anything today. If you and Vincent’s relationship does go somewhere, you can tell him when the relationship is more secure and his feelings for you are cemented. If you don’t work out, you have fun with him and you don’t give up your dreams for no reason. It’s not like you’re the only one getting pleasure out of the relationship. Besides, if it goes the first way and you two do work out, then you will have given him time to discover for himself how wonderful you are and most likely he won’t think it’s a big deal. At that point, if he really cares for you, he’ll be happy for you as your career is advanced. His parents will be happy he’s dating, for they did pick you for him after all. Everyone will be happy.’

Zoe smiled. Kat was slower to follow, but soon she was beaming. Jumping out of her seat, she ran around the table and hugged Zoe. ‘Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You are the best sister ever. I love you.’

Zoe laughed, returning the hug before pushing Kat gently away. ‘You’re welcome. So, how did it happen? Tell me everything.’

‘He’s just so lost all the time. It’s adorable. He calls me his butterfly,’ Kat said, still smiling brightly as she became lost in thoughts of Vincent. ‘And when he touches me, I feel as fluttery as one. When he doesn’t touch me, I’m fluttery just thinking about him touching me.’ Kat lifted her hands, letting her sister see the subtle shake in them. ‘See, even now. I don’t know what that means. Is it weird? Me and the bug guy? I mean I still hate bugs, but I really like him.’

‘Yes, it is strange,’ Zoe said, giggling as she nodded. ‘But, then again, Kat, you’ve never done anything that could be considered completely normal.’

* * *

Kat paced outside Lab Two’s door, running her fingers over the wood, tapping them as she passed. The light thumping noise she made was soft, but she knew Vincent could hear her. She refused to go inside with the live insects, so her only choice was to draw him out.

There was sound from within. The door opened and Vincent poked his head out. Very sternly, he said, ‘Katarina, I told you I have to work.’

She pouted her bottom lip and answered, ‘But I’m bored and you said you were caught up. Can’t you take a break?’

A small smile of feigned exasperation crossed over his features and she knew he was trying really hard not to grin at her. His gaze dipped down over her light-pink tank top and casual dark-pink terry cloth skirt. It was short, falling to upper-mid-thigh.

Vincent groaned lightly. ‘I have to do this.’

‘OK,’ Kat agreed, widening her stance.

‘There’s so much work that still needs to be . . .’ His voice tapered off into a suppressed groan as he looked at her breasts. She’d rubbed the nipples into erect peaks before he’d opened the door.

‘I understand.’ Kat flipped her hair over her shoulder, purposefully knocking a pen out from behind her ear. ‘I don’t want to be in the way.’

Impishly, she turned her back towards him. Kat didn’t bend her knees as she leaned over to pick the pen up. Vincent’s low growl turned into a loud moan. Coming up behind her, he grabbed her hips and pulled her into his erection.

‘You did that on purpose,’ he said.

Kat stood back up and laughed. ‘Yes, I did. How else is a girl to get any attention around here? It’s not like I can compete with your insects.’

‘There is no reason to be jealous of the mosquitoes, sweet butterfly.’ He chuckled, walking her along with his
erection firmly against her backside. ‘You’re much prettier than they are.’

‘Ah, but I still bite,’ she said.

Vincent closed his eyes briefly at that. ‘Yes, you do.’

When she hit the hallway wall, he pressed his length along her backside. Grabbing her hands, he drew them up over her head, pinning them with one of his larger hands so she was trapped. Kat’s cheek pressed into the old wood. When she breathed, the tank top didn’t protect her from its grainy texture and the feel of it against her nipples was highly erotic.

Vincent rocked against her before pulling away. She could feel him moving behind her, but she couldn’t see what he was doing. The sound of material falling caught her attention and she imagined his pants falling to the floor.

‘Should we do this here?’ she asked, moving to look at the door. Her other cheek pressed into the wood as the first had. As she stared at the door, she felt a rush of excitement. The thrill of being seen pumped through her veins, arousing her as Vincent held her trapped.

‘Why not?’ He ran his hand boldly down her side.

‘Your job,’ she breathed heavily.

‘What about it?’ Vincent grabbed at her hip, working her skirt up. Kat purred in the back of her throat. He exposed her ass to him, barely covered by the thong she wore. His hot breath fanned over her neck, causing her to shiver. ‘No one ever comes to the office.’

Reason told her to argue, but as he found the delicate lace side of her panties, all words left her. Keeping his fingers on the outside of the material, he ran his hand over the front. Then pulling the crotch aside, he exposed her sex without undressing her. Bold fingers dipped along her slit, parting her folds as he wedged his cock along the cheeks of her ass. The slick, cool feel of the condom soon heated against her flesh. An animalistic
sound left him as he let go of her wrists. Her arms fell slightly, but she was still trapped.

‘Do you do this to all of your assistants, Dr Richmond?’ she asked playfully. A popping noise sounded and the crotch of her panties fell forward. He had torn the delicate material. The man never failed to surprise her when it came to sex.

What had become a near marathon of orgasms the night they’d gone to Sedurre had grown into a whipped cream-covered breakfast in which she was the main course. They’d had sex on his desk in the office, throwing aside the mess of papers as they lay on top. There was the blow job she’d given him in the collection room, the returned favour he did for her in the same place. The man had great hands and as he brought her release using both his fingers and his mouth, she’d been as close to heaven as any woman could get.

Dragging his cock up and down the cleft of her ass, he brought the tip to her pussy. Naturally, she parted her thighs, waiting for that first solid thrust. It didn’t take much to make her wet for him and Vincent came to her as if insatiable. She guessed it was due to a combination of stress and the fact he hadn’t had sex for a while before her. Whatever the reason, she was reaping the benefits.

Vincent pushed into her, groaning as he propelled his hips back and forth. The position made for a tighter fit. Usually she wasn’t one for feeling helpless, but she didn’t mind being trapped to his whim. Whatever book he’d borrowed from his gynaecologist friend in college, it should be mandatory for all males over eighteen.

Her nipples stung as she was pushed hard with each thrust. He placed a hand over her sex, so each plunge rocked her into his hand, stimulating the hard bud of her clit. Kat stared at the door, imagining it might open at any second.

‘Come for me, butterfly,’ he urged.

Kat closed her eyes, gasping for air as she did just that. She climaxed, her fingers gripping onto the wall. Vincent grunted, jerking as he too met his release.
