“Rex asked me to marry him and I said yes,” she nonchalantly reveals, sending me a wicked smile as she opens the door to the apartment and walks out. My mind is digesting the words as I quickly walk toward the door to catch her.

“You bitch! Get back here!” I yell down the hall, trying to keep the smile off my face.

“Later…” she replies as she continues walking away.

What a fucking snatch.

***

“You’ve gained five pounds since your last appointment,” the nurse notes, scribbling on a piece of paper she has in her hands. Fantastic. It has to be all those veggies chips I’m eating.

“Don’t worry, baby, I still love you,” Corey reassures me as we walk down the hall to a patient room.

“Shut up or you’re going to be about two pounds lighter…”

“Why’s that?” he goads me.

“Because I’m going to cut off a very important…”

“In you go…” the nurse directs, ushering us into the room. I glare at Corey as he smiles because I am unable to finish my sentence.

I sit at the end of the examination table, and Corey takes a seat against the wall. Yeah, you better stay away from me. I might stab you.

“Any new symptoms? You said you had morning sickness? Any headaches or light headedness?” The nurse is pumping questions out like they are going out of style.

“Nope. All is good in pregnancy world,” I answer quite sarcastically, and I can tell the nurse is getting annoyed.

“Alright, Doctor Clive will be in shortly.” She gets up, locks her computer, and leaves. Silence passes between me and Corey, and then he starts laughing for seemingly no reason.

“What is so funny?” I gripe, my fingers digging into the white paper on the table. The room is stuffy, and the mirror in front of me shows my ever growing reflection back at me.

“You’re what’s funny. You want me to go give the nurse her head back?” he admonishes.

“I didn’t bite her head off…” Did I? I can be snarky without even thinking about it.

“You kind of did, but she probably deals with tons of pregnant women.” For some reason, Corey’s comment has me thinking about my mom. I haven’t told her I am pregnant yet, but soon there will be no hiding it. Not just because of my body, but because of my insurance. My dad will be getting a bill for my last appointment any day now.

“Hey, where did you go?” Corey asks concerned, his hand landing on my thigh.

“My parents. They don’t know yet. What am I going to say to them? How will I explain to my dad that I went off to college to learn and somehow ended up knocked up?”

“Hey now…” he says soothingly, his hand moving up to my face. His hand is soft as it encompasses my cheek. His warmth and smell surround me, filling every missing piece inside. “My parents don’t know either, not that my dad would really care. But my mom… My mom would. She would want to know her granddaughter or grandson.”

I nod. I know what he means. Our families will want to know what we are having. Hell, they will just want to know that we are even having a baby. I hate talking to my mom, but right now, from one mother to another, I feel like I need to call her and tell her myself.

“We could tell them together…” I offer shyly, not really sure what he will say about it. We never discuss our parents. I know all there is to know about Corey’s dad, and he knows that my dad is constantly having affairs with his staff.

“We could…” he says, his voice so smooth. “Or we could find out what we’re having first and live in the moment before we have to explain it all to them. The most important thing is that we’re happy.”

I nod again, my emotions all over the place. “Look at me,” he commands. I bring my eyes up to meet his. “You and me, Mimi. We are what matters, not our parents or anyone else. Just you and me. If we’re happy, that’s all that matters.”

It’s then, of course, that the doctor decides to come in and crush the beautiful moment that Corey and I are having.

“Ah. Hello, Mimi. How is pregnancy treating you?” Dr. Clive questions. A smile tugs at my lips, and I hold back a smartass remark.

“It’s splendid.”

“Good,” he says, cracking his knuckles. “We’re going to do an ultrasound today to see if we can see what the sex of the baby is.”

I give Corey a confused expression, but all he does is smile at me softly. I lean back onto the table as the doctor grabs a bottle and pulls a very large machine that is sitting in the corner over to us.

“The gel is going to be cold; otherwise, you shouldn’t feel any discomfort.” Relief runs through me. Thank the Lord because if I would have had to walk out of here feeling like I had been assaulted, I was going to lose it.

I pull my shirt up, and the doctor squeezes the bottle of gel. Cold dollops fall onto my skin, and though I want to let out a shriek, I don’t.

“Cold, huh?” Corey remarks, his hand finding its way into mine.

“Very.”

Doctor Clive pushes a bunch of buttons then moves the screen around to face us. He has a Doppler in his hand and when he places it against my skin, a blob pops up on the screen. It’s like looking through a glass of water. He moves the device around on my belly until he finds the spot he wants.

A couple clicks later, I’m waiting for him to say something, anything. Moments pass as my eyes stay glued to the screen to see our baby’s body come into focus. It looks like a really big baby.

“Well, goodness…” Doctor Clive says under his breath.

“What?” Corey and I ask in unison, an uneasiness settling into my bones.

“Well, I can tell you right now that you’re going to be parents, but not to just one baby.”

“What do you mean not to one baby?” Corey asks. I think I’ve already figured it out. We cannot be having two babies. TWO BABIES! My eyes grow wide as I watch Corey’s face for emotions.

“I mean, there are two babies in there.”

Corey’s eyes grow to the size of saucers; his face turns as white as the sheet I’m lying on.

“But… What… How…” he sputters through a numerous amount of words as the doctor continues to click on things.

Dr. Clive pushes a button and a heartbeat starts to sound through the small speaker. Tears well up in my eyes at the sound of life - lives that Corey and I created.

“Yes, definitely two babies,” Doctor Clive states, looking at us with a smile on his face.

“Would you like to know the sex of the babies?” he enquires. The question doesn’t bother me; it’s when he says babies that I actually start to freak out.

“There are really two in there?”

“Yes. See here?” he explains, pointing out two distinct bodies. Well, that explains the five pound gain.

Four hands, eyes, ears, and arms. Two hearts.

I nod my head yes, signifying that I want to know the sex of the babies. I look over at Corey who’s forcing a smile. His face has a little color back in it, but he looks just as shocked as I am.

“Anything you were hoping for?” Dr. Clive asks us. I shake my head, but Corey mumbles, “Yeah, a boy.” Of course he would want a boy.

“Well, I’ll have you know, you’re having TWO boys.” And that people is the nail in the coffin. Two fucking boys. Add Corey in and I’m certain that I will be dead before the age of 25.

“Yes!” Corey exclaims, jumping up and down.

“Congratulations, you two,” Doctor Clive tells us. He cleans my belly off and leaves the room to get some pictures. He tells me the due date is perfect, and that because we’re having twins, we should just watch for signs of dehydration and exhaustion which can lead to other complications. It takes forever for it to hit me, and once I find myself sitting in Corey’s car, I just want to cry.

“I must have super sperm,” Corey proudly states, trying to make light of the situation, I’m sure.

“Two boys. Two fucking boys. Are you kidding me?” It’s not that I’m not happy with two boys, it’s that if they’re anything like their father, well, the world is doomed.

“I wish I was, but nope…” There is a smug look on his face. No one is going to believe this. It’s almost as unbelievable as Jenna and Rex getting engaged, which by the way I wonder if Corey knows.

“You knew Jenna and Rex were getting engaged, didn’t you?” I question, totally switching subjects.

“I may have had some type of an idea…” he admits.

“Really? She’s my best friend and you couldn’t even tell me?” I punch him in the arm, and he glares at me as he rubs the spot I just hit.

“Oh, stop. You and I weren’t on speaking terms. Fucking terms, yes, speaking, no.” He starts the car, putting an end to the conversation. My eyes gaze down to the pictures in my lap. Two little humans, two little boys, two chances to change.

“Pizza’s here!” Corey hollers, tipping back the beer in his hand. I don’t blame him for needing a drink. After the day we had, if I wasn’t pregnant, I would be downing a bottle of wine, or five.

“Wow, he has clothes on,” Jenna says, trying to be a smartass.

“Just wait five minutes and he won’t.”

“Oh, he will, because I don’t want to see that shit,” Rex declares, coming over to me and wrapping me in a hug. I wrap my arms around him, returning the hug. However, the minute he lets go, I take to punching him in the arm.

“Ouch! What was that for?”

“For proposing to Jenna and not telling me. That’s what.”

“Yeah, dude. You about got my head ripped off this afternoon,” Corey cuts in, a slice of pizza in hand.

“Sorry. I didn’t know I needed to run things by the best friend first,” he responds.

“You don’t, babe,” Jenna says, sticking up for him.

“He does,” I scowl.

“He doesn’t.”

“You still should have let me know.” I pout as if I’m sad. I’m not really sad, more so happy for her.

“We did today,” Rex interrupts yet again, one of the signature Winchester smiles being thrown my way. How do women not shimmy out of their panties when things like that are thrown their way?

“Funny,” I quip, walking over by the pizza. It’s greasy and cheesy and most definitely not veggie chips.

“Have you heard from Ryder?” Jenna asks Rex. Her voice is hushed, but I’m the bestie, so I would be able to hear her whisper across a football field filled with jocks.

“Yeah, he’s over at Kennedy’s dorm room with her.” I smile to myself. I’m beyond happy that Ryder finally found someone, even if I didn’t think that he and Kennedy would work out in the beginning.

At the very least, he got that asshole Sam to leave her alone, and to me, that’s more important than anything.

“Oh, really… What exactly are they doing?” Jenna asks, wiggling her eyebrows back and forth at him. I watch them with amazement, and happiness fills my heart and overflows into every other part of me. We all have come such a long way.

“Probably exactly what we should be doing.” His voice is deep and sexy. He leans over and whispers something in her ear that causes her to blush. Something tells me Jenna has become a lot more experienced in the bedroom.

“They’re so adorable,” Corey says in a girly voice. I know he’s mocking me after watching me for the last couple of minutes.

“They are… Do you think we should tell them?” I ask eagerly. I can’t wait to tell them. I’m still in shock, but I’m excited too.

“Sure…” Grabbing the ultrasound pictures off the counter, he hands them to Jenna. She looks down at them and then up at me.

“Are these of the baby?”

“Babies,” I say, correcting her with a huge smile. The look on her face turns from excitement to downright surprise. Her eyes grow wide as she looks down at my belly and then to the pictures.

“Two?” she exclaims as if she can’t believe it. I nod my head, walking over to the sofa adjacent to them.

“Yup. There are two little mini-me’s in there,” Corey comments proudly. I catch the look on Rex’s face as he shakes his head. “You mean two mini devils.”

“Boys? You’re having twins? Twin boys?” Jenna’s voice is full of incredulous excitement and possibly fear.

I nod my head yes, then suddenly I’m being attacked. She all but tackles me, her small arms wrapping me in a bear hug.

“I’m so excited for you guys! So gosh darn excited! We can go buy cribs and clothes… Oh, and I think I saw some super cute bedding at that Target on…”

“Whoa, slow down girl.” I pull away, having to pry her off of me.

“Did you just say no to shopping?”

“No… Please don’t be upset, but… But, I want to go with Corey first. These are our babies, and I want to make the most of it with him. We have turned over about a million new leaves in the last twenty four hours, and I think we should be trying with each other.”

Removing herself from the seat next to me, Jenna stands, crossing her arms over her chest. She glares at me like I just kicked twenty puppies.

“You mean to tell me that you’re going to let that thing,” she says, gesturing to Corey who is now in a quiet conversation with Rex about The Walking Dead, “pick out bedding, clothes, and all the necessities needed for two babies?”

“Yes. With my help.”

She shakes her head at me, her mousy brown hair falling onto her face. “He realizes babies need things like formula, bottles, diapers, onesies, socks, and special bath soap? Oh, and don’t forget a peaceful, quiet home filled with love… Oh my God, how are you guys going to do this? How? And with twins? Twins?” Jenna is rambling as her irrational anxiety builds.
