Chapter 40

The Prophet stood on a roof top in Hub. He was waiting for a meeting. Bel and her Squad stayed back, in case this went wrong. It was hard for them to place their trust in one of the Masters. They would lie to a Human without a qualm.

A huge Kresh walked out of the darkness.

"He's alone," Bel said, "At least he kept his word."

"He's a Farrara'Ti," Vita said, "He can take care of himself. Watch closely, we may only have a fraction of a moment to act."

"Worry not," the Farrara'Ti spoke, "Rash'Tor'Ri would be quite upset if I attacked his best friend."

"I saw you once," the Prophet said, "in Montana."

"Yes," Kil'Sin'Deres said.

"You're the one he sent those Kresh he Marked to."

"I carry his Mark, as well, Rictor Hughes," he said, "My name is Kil'Sin'Deres and I am your ally."

"And what is it you would ask of me, Kil'Sin'Deres?" Rictor asked.

"Without the Mark," he said, "I know you will have difficulty trusting me. Will you trust your man, Sam Keller?"

"Without a doubt."

"He is three rooftops in that direction," Kil'Sin'Deres said, "If you would go speak to him, he will vouch for what I would ask of you."

"I'll be right back," he said, "Bel, keep an eye on him."

"Yes, Prophet."

Rictor was gone for about ten minutes before he returned to the rooftop with a grin.

"OK, what is it ya need?"

"I have a plan to help Rash'Tor'Ri with the hordes of Kresh on his world. I require a number of your Human Soulguard to leave the right impression behind."

"A plan to help him? By all means, share that," Rictor Hughes said with a vicious smile.

I awoke from a deep sleep with a gasp.

"Holy shit!" I said as I jumped from the bed.

"What is it?" Lyrica asked as she came from the bed with fire beginning to roll across her naked body.

"That's just sexy," I said, "but it's not that sort of Holy shit."

She looked at me with that look, "It better be important."

"I feel em," I said, "I feel em all."

"Who?"

"The Kresh," I said, "Kil'Sin'Deres must have done something on the other side."

"That's good news," she said.

"Yeah," I said, "but now we have to get everyone to stop shootin at em long enough to get em off planet."

"Hmmm."

"Exactly."
