The roar bounced down the locker room, pumping her adrenaline. Just as she stepped from the doorway to make her way to the ring, something slammed her to the ground. Her instincts kicked in and she exploded, knocking first the knife out of the assailant's hand then landing a kidney shot and another to the side of his head before he had time to think. The man scrambled to mount her and she grinned. “You’re dead, motherfucker.” Abi reversed it, slamming him to the concrete floor. Her fists pelted the man’s face and body, dominating him like a little bitch. He choked on his own blood, frantically flailing in an obvious lack of technique. It was too easy it was insulting. The pussy fuck managed to block a shot long enough to reach for a gun in his pants and she slid off to the side, locking him in a guillotine. It wasn’t long before the man choked out, falling limp beside her. She jumped to her feet and stomped down on his neck, snapping it.

Yells and commotion pulled her out of herself and back to reality. There, standing around her, was Tonka and Yo Neg. “What the fuck!” Tonka yelled.

“You okay?” Yo Neg picked her away from the dead body, holding her against him.

“What? Yeah, I’m fine. What are you two doing here?” Irritation laced her words. They weren’t supposed to find out about her fighting. Tonto was in for a load of shit when she got back to the clubhouse. Fending off her attacker had only taken a couple of minutes. Her entrance music still beat through the arena, calling her. Abi was going to be late to the ring, and didn’t have time to deal with them now.

“We came to save you. The Diablos are after Sledge. We figured out they’d be trying to use you as a hostage to lure us in. Tonto didn't want to have to tell us but he did for your safety.” Yo Neg’s arrogance grated on her nerves. There was no way in hell they were going to try to go alpha male on her.

“As you can see, I don’t need saving. Now, I have a fight to go to.” She pushed past them, rolling her eyes when they followed. Tonka grabbed her arm and tried to pull her back.

“What the fuck? You were just attacked. You can’t fight!” he yelled over the crowd.

“Yeah, and I killed the son-of-a-bitch. Now let go before you join him.” She jerked away, bolting to the officials to check in before entering the octagon.

“Dude, where the fuck is she going? She isn’t going to fight, is she?” Yo Neg’s voice rose in shock.

“It looks like that’s exactly what she’s doing.”

“Fuck, she’s one tough bitch.”

“Call my sister a bitch again and it’ll be you laying in a puddle of your own blood,” Sledge’s ice cold voice came up from behind them. They turned and looked, shaking their head. The last thing Abi needed right now was her brother pulling his shit. It was bad enough they’d both tried to tell her what to do. If Sledge got in on it, there was a good chance their little hellcat would snap a few more necks tonight. “Who authorized this?” he growled.

“Beats the fuck out of me. I assume Tonto since he’s the one who knew where to find her,” Tonka spat out.

“She’s going to get herself killed in there! Why the fuck didn’t you stop her?” He started toward the ring the other two following. Right before Sledge hit the area around the octagon, they stopped him.

“We just called in clean up for a body in the locker room for the Diablo that attacked her. He had a gun and a knife. She snapped his neck.” Tonka couldn’t help but be proud of her. She was tougher than a lot of men he knew.

“What? How?” Sledge asked, just as the fight bell rang. The three men went silent and watched as Abi charged her opponent ferociously, a cloud of rage surrounding her. Her punches and kicks were lethal. In under twenty seconds of the first round, the fighter fell to the mat, her body stiff as a board in a TKO.

“Like that,” Yo Neg answered, grinning from ear to ear.

“Damn! Did you see her? How the fuck did she learn to fight like that?” Tonka beamed.

“College. Son-of-a-bitch, I don’t know why I didn’t see it before now.” Sledge shook his head, trying hard to be pissed at her but his pride in seeing her in action outweighed it. When she stepped from the ring and saw him, her face went white.

“You called my fucking brother!” she screamed. “You had no fucking right!” Abi tore down the hallway to her dressing room with them hot on her heels, but it was no use. The crowd made it impossible to get through before she’d already left. The three guys took off in hopes she wasn’t so upset she didn’t do something stupid.

Tonka, Yo Neg, and Sledge creeped up to the Diablos drug house, stopping only long enough to toss the dead Mexican out onto the driveway before speeding off. “Go!” Yo Neg exclaimed.

“Motherfuckers! That’s what happens when you fuck with our women!” Tonka growled. It didn’t matter that Abi had crushed the asshole, the fact still remained that the Diablos were playing dirty and would get to whoever they could. It would be the demise of the filthy cucarachas soon.

They were a block away before shouting could be heard, it was followed by gunshots, and the sound of motors starting up. Sledge floored it, speeding down alleyways and turning in a maze of streets to put distance between them and the Diablos. There was no way they’d ever catch up, but it should have sent the message they’d hoped for. Poor bastards chose the wrong bitch to fuck with.

“I can’t believe that was my baby sister out there tonight.” Sledge grinned. Yeah, he wasn’t pleased she’d dropped out of school and lied about it, but watching her tonight had opened his eyes some. When Tonto wouldn’t talk, he’d gone and found her file himself in Tonto’s office. Shocked was an understatement. There was a lot he didn’t know about the woman who had come home, and whether he wanted to admit it or not, she wasn’t a kid anymore. Whether she liked it or not though, she was and always would be his baby sister. Eventually she’d need to finish her degree to have something to fall back on when her fighting career was over. Fighters only got a short window of time to live in the glory before their body fell apart and their age knocked them out of competition. Plus, she was gorgeous. If she kept it up too much longer, her good looks would be ruined with scars and cauliflower ear. He didn’t want that for her at all. One way or another she’d have to listen whether she liked it or not.

“Tonto! We need to talk. NOW!” Abi burst through his office door, her temper flaring. If he had believed in things supernatural, he’d have sworn her hair floated out into the air around her. He excused himself from the conversation he’d been having on his cell and leaned back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest.

“You better have a damn good excuse why you are barging into
my
office making demands, little lady.” He was half impressed at her ballsy action. The only other women who’d ever dared to jump his shit was Raven and Chevy, and even Chevy didn’t buck him too hard.

“Save it, asshole. That shit doesn’t work on me. You fuckin’ lied to me,” she growled through clenched teeth. Tonto’s eyes widened slightly in amusement. He knew why she was choking on her panties and had half expected her to confront him.

“No, I didn’t. Your safety falls above everything else. We got word the Diablos were after Sledge and knew you were the easiest and most obvious target. I sent Yo Neg and Tonka to protect you.”

Abi wanted to knock the matter-of-fact smirk off his damn face. “And Sledge?” she roared.

“Sledge followed them. We didn’t know how many would show. Believe it or not, Abi, this is bigger than you. You bitch about being grown up and wanting to be seen and treated as an adult, but here you are throwing a temper tantrum. The club did what was needed to prevent injury.”

“Bullshit. I had the asshole taken care of before they even got there! I coulda taken on two more and
still
made it to the ring to fight with time to spare.
And
, you could have sent someone else. Now, try again.”

Tonto thought about it for a few minutes, impressed she’d caught him at a loss for words. Not many people had ever caught him off guard. “I guess we underestimated your skills. But like I said before, you were still hiding it. If you are the grown woman you claim to be, you wouldn’t be trying to hide shit. It’s your life, no one elses.” His condescending tone heated her cheeks. He was right…still an asshole, but right.

“And my choice to tell who I want, when I want,
if
I want.” She spun on her heel and stormed out, grabbing a bottle of whisky out of Yo Neg’s hand on the way to her room.

When Tonto’s door slammed shut, he snickered. Yeah, she was more of a Savage than even she knew.

Yo Neg happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time when Abi hurdled through the room. It wasn’t genius to figure out what was exchanged behind Tonto’s closed door. Unfortunately for him, he was right in the path of mass destruction.

“You! How dare you. Where the fuck do you get off? This is my life,
not yours
. You have no control whatsoever. The small chance you had at being included at all you blew. Stay the fuck away from me.” Abi knew the few people were around and heard every word. It wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to know what she’d implied, but like Tonto said—it was her fucking life. From now on, she fucked who she wanted, did what she wanted, and answered to
no one…especially
her brother.

Tonka and Sledge crossed the room toward Yo Neg. Tonka’s expression was cold in anticipation for the falling out that was about to take place. He and Yo Neg had no choice but to fess up.

“What chance was that, Yo Neg?” Sledge’s shoulders squared off and he crossed his arms over his chest.

Of all the times for this to be dragged out into the open… Tonka went on defense, his hackles rising.

“None of your fuckin’ business, Sledge. Leave it alone.” Tonka took a step forward, blocking Sledge from Yo Neg.

“He fucked my sister. It’s my business.” Sledge didn’t back down.

“She’s an adult. Who she wants to sleep with is her business, not yours. You should be more concerned at the shithole death trap you had her living in. If you’re out to protect her, you have a fucked up way of showing it.” Tonka’s temper mounted.

“Tonka, not your fight. Get the fuck out of the way,” Sledge said, not taking his eyes off Yo Neg.

“It
is
my fight. Abi belongs to
me
,” he confessed. His timing couldn’t have been worse, but it didn’t matter. If he had to fight his best friend over her, so be it.

“And me,” Yo Neg added. Well, it was nice to see he wasn’t the only one with impeccable timing. Sledge stepped up, his chest bumping Tonka’s.

What did you say?”
he whispered.

“You heard me. Now back off.”

“Back off? You fuck my sister, and tell
me
to back off? We’ve been brothers a long time. You of all people should know that ain’t gonna happen. If you were anyone else, your fucking throats would be slit and your bodies rotting in the desert. I may not kill you two, but you’ll wish you were fucking dead!” Sledge drew back his sledge-like fist and punched Tonka in the jaw, sending him stumbling a few steps backwards. Yo Neg got the same treatment, only he was ready for it. In a quick dodge, Yo Neg weaved to the side and hit Sledge in the side of the head, ringing his ears. Tonka stood back, allowing Sledge the benefit of a fair fight. He’d get his turn all right, and when he did, Sledge wouldn’t ever forget his place again. The two went blow for blow, equal in strength and maneuver. Hell, they should considering the three of them had learned their street fighting skills in the backyard as kids. They knew each other’s fighting tactics and weaknesses.

Sledge caught Yo Neg in a right hook that left him shaken enough he knocked him to the ground, momentarily giving him an upper hand. A crowd had begun to gather, none stupid enough to stop them. Fights within the club were rare but did happen and was to be expected with all the raging testosterone and egos. Tonka caught Tonto positioned at the back, his eyebrow arched in warning. Tonka knew enough not to jump in. Sledge was his best friend, and
when
he kicked his ass, it would be a fair fuckin’ fight. So, he sat back and waited.

As Sledge climbed on top of Yo Neg and reared back to hit him, a black blur jotted into the mix and shoved him off. “What the fuck!” Abi looked at the three of them, daggers shooting out of her eyes. With Tonka’s eye already turning purple and the other two showing more wear for the worry, there was no escaping her.

“Stay out of this, Abi!” Sledge bellowed at her.

“Wrong answer,” Abi spat, cocking back and knocking him off Yo Neg. Tonka stepped forward and grabbed her, keeping her off Sledge. “Get your fucking hands off of me now!” She threw an elbow and hit him in the ribs, tossing her hands up in the air. “Who’s next?” When the three of them just stared at her, she laughed. “That’s what I thought. Stay the fuck out of my business.” Abi turned and blew out the door, the sound of her bike roaring to life as she spun out of the parking lot. The moment she hit the pavement, she gunned it.

Chapter Eight

Abi ordered another drink in hopes the burn of the booze would douse the adrenaline rush so she wouldn’t go back and beat Tonka, Yo Neg, and Sledge within an inch of their life. The entire situation was wearing on her, breaking down her guard. She didn’t want to admit having feelings for either Tonka or Yo Neg, but her heart begged to differ. For a split second, she felt something she’d never felt before and damn sure didn’t want to analyze it. Admitting and pondering always ended in pain. That’s why she’d turned to fighting. In the ring, everything disappeared. It wasn’t about anger and emotion, it was about technique. That’s what set her above the other women in the sport. Most women ran off emotion. If they got hit or hurt, they got angry. Abi didn’t. She turned her anger and pain into energy and focused on her training.

When she finally began to feel her heart rate steady and allowed the tunes from the jukebox to work on her mood, two familiar faces walked through the bar. It didn’t take them long to pick her out of the crowd and head in her direction, much to Abi’s aversion.
