He’d had women, enjoyed them, cared for a few. But he’d never been as overcome with one as he was with her last night. All the tastes, scents, touches had resulted in an orgasm much more intense than any he’d imagined.

Still, before they could get married, there was a job to be done. He was almost certain Ellen was going to be right in the middle of it all. He and Jack had to make sure they were included in the mission, and the sooner the better. He wanted it finished.

Her butt moved against his abdomen, bumping his cock. She took a deep breath and glanced over her shoulder at him. Her sweet smile took his breath.

“What time is it? It must be early.”

“I’d guess around five.” He rolled her onto her back and kissed her rosy lips.

“Hmm, I like that. Do we have to get up?”

“Not yet. I want breakfast first.” His tongue licked inside her mouth and his hand cupped her breast. “Aren’t you hungry?”

She stretched like a sleek cat, smooth lines with all the curves in the right places. Her breasts rose toward him.

“You hide these beauties under loose blouses.” He cupped both breasts and licked her plump nipples. “Like ripe grapes.”

His hands stroked along the curves of her rib cage. He moved suddenly to her pussy lips. They were pink and moist. “And here you taste like cotton candy.” His tongue licked her moist sweetness. He circled her nub, teasing with a quick touch, and then away. Her body rose to meet his mouth, and her soft hands moved through his hair. He put two fingers inside her hot, wet pussy. She clenched around them tightly and moaned when his tongue suckled her nub. When she begged for relief, he flipped her onto her stomach, pulled her sweet ass against him, and took her from behind.

“Ah,” he groaned as he sank deeper into her. His one hand held her breast tight and rubbed across her nipple. With the other hand, his thumb rubbed across her nub. She screamed as her pussy clamped down hard on his dick and the tremors began sending a shot of electricity straight up his spine. He exploded in an overload of sensations.

Barely able to move, he sank down on top of her for a moment before rolling to her side. Her body shook and he cuddled her as she calmed. Tears ran down her face. He wiped her cheeks.

“I didn’t hurt you, did I?”

“No. I don’t know what happened. It was so much the tears just came. I never knew or suspected I’d ever feel like this with anyone.”

“You are incredibly responsive. As you will be with Jack.”

“Are you sure? And you won’t be jealous?”

“There won’t be any jealousy between us. We both recognized you as the one for us.”

“It’s too soon to know if it will last or how I’ll feel about Jack.” She frowned and jumped out of bed, hurrying into the bathroom.

In a minute, he heard the shower. Jack needed to bond with her soon. They needed to blast those walls completely away before she tried to rebuild them. He opened the curtains and looked out at the canyon. His body was exhilarated from their loving.

He smiled, remembering the first time he’d seen her. He’d arrived in town, located her apartment, and waited outside that first morning for her to leave to go to work. She’d come out dressed in a loose white blouse, black slacks, flats, and her hair pulled back in a tight bun.

Jack had told him about her scent and his body’s reaction to her. He’d said she was the one for them. Seeing her tall, slim body the first time, he thought Jack had been mistaken. It wasn’t until she opened her door that night and her scent hit him. Then her eyes met his, and he knew Jack was right. Damn, but he was right.

She peeked her head around the door. “You’re standing naked at the window.”

Laughter rumbled through his chest. She was such a delightful mixture of a passionate sensual woman with a reserved personality. “The horses don’t mind seeing me naked.”

He strolled across the room and picked up her overnight bag. “Did you forget to take this in with you?” He dangled it toward her.

“Yes.” She reached out her hand.

“You have to come here and get it.”

“It’s broad daylight, and the window is open.”

“No one will see that lovely body but me. Hurry up. I need to shower, and we have to be on our way.”

She gave him her strongest frown. He laughed again and didn’t move. She stared at him for several minutes. He waited.

Finally, making an exasperated sound, she ran to him and grabbed for the case. He dropped it, pulled the towel she was holding around her off, and held her against his body. His hand cupped her neck. He tipped her head and ravished her mouth.

“That is a nice good-morning greeting.” He bent and handed her the bag. As she turned to stalk away, his hand gave her a light smack on her butt. She threw him a heated glance and rushed into the bathroom, locking the door.

Sahale looked down at his dick standing at attention. “I think we’ve got all we can get for the present. You might as well calm down.”

When Ellen came out, he went in and took a cold shower. Afterwards, he dressed in his jeans, shirt, and boots, and tied his hair back. He was pleased to find she’d made coffee and toast for them. They ate quickly. Following her outside, he locked the door, took their cases to the truck, and helped her in.

He turned to her as he started the engine. “Mitch and Daren will probably have some questions for you when we get back. Jack or I will be with you all the time.”

“You’ve talked with them since we left?”

“Once when we got down from the mountain.” He saw her nod. He drove the truck down the narrow lane and back toward the ranch. He hated to leave. Nothing ahead was going to be easy.

Chapter Seven

Sahale called Jack on their way in. “We’re to meet with Mitch and Daren at one.”

“Are you alone?” Jack asked.

“No. We’ll be back around noon. I’ll come by your office and get you.”

“All right. See you then,” Jack said, and disconnected the call.

“Is your meeting about me?” Ellen asked. She’d been looking out the window, but she turned to look at him.

“Partially. I suspect the men who wanted to kidnap you weren’t just interested in what you might know about us. I’m concerned they were after something else. For your sake and ours, we need to know what they want.”

“I’ve feared my ex-father-in-law might be behind the attempt to kidnap me. I don’t understand why. I haven’t said anything to anyone before I told you, and I know nothing about his business.”

“You never heard a conversation that made you have questions about him or your ex-husband?”

“It was so long ago, and I’ve tried to bury those memories.”

“We might need you to remember them. I can help you.”

“I don’t want to.”

Sahale let the subject drop. He’d wait and see if Mitch and Daren wanted her memories tapped before bringing up the issue again. They could be retrieved in two ways, through him working with her or through their machine that filters or takes memories away. He’d prefer it was through him.

His body had become so attuned to hers he was aware of the stiffening in her muscles and the scent of a tinge of fear. When their gazes met, he saw the uncertainty swirling in the depths of her golden brown eyes. He reached out and took her hand.

“Remember, Jack and I will keep you safe from harm.”

“Unless you’re ordered to do otherwise,” she whispered.

“Whatever your former husband and his father are involved in, I know you are an innocent pawn. We don’t harm innocent people.”

“You believe me, really?”

“Enough that I’d stake my life on it.”

Tears filled her eyes. He squeezed her hand before letting go. He wanted to stop and take her into his arms, but they’d used up the time earlier. He had to be at the meeting to protect Ellen’s interests.

He dropped her off at her cabin. He insisted on carrying her overnight bag in and stepping inside the door. “Don’t worry. Jack or I will come and bring you to our cabin for dinner. We’ll talk then. There’s a large community store right down the road. If you turn left and walk a short distance, you’ll see it. They have anything you might want to buy.” He cupped her face and kissed her softly. “Until tonight, babe.”

Sahale strode briskly to his truck and drove straight to Jack’s office. He went in the back way and found Jack eating a sandwich.

“Here, I bought one for you, too.” Jack handed him a wrapped sandwich and a cold soda. “Sit and tell me what’s been happening.” Jack put his feet on his desk and leaned back.

“We just returned. Thanks for this.” Sahale held up his lunch. “I left Ellen at her cabin and told her we’d bring her to our place for dinner.”

“Good idea. Did you find out anything?”

“Yeah. Got a name. Mitch is checking on it. I think her ex-husband and father-in-law are two of the ones we’ve been looking for. Don’t ask me why. It just made sense listening to her talk about them. I tried to shrug the idea off. It wouldn’t go away.”

“I’m sure you’re right. Your gut instincts are seldom wrong. How was it between you two?”

“Her walls are strong, but I broke through. She’ll try to put them back up. We won’t let her.”

“You made love?”

“Yes. You need to bond with her as soon as possible. We can’t move slowly, as we’d planned, with her seduction. If I’m right, things are going to heat up fast. She needs to trust both of us.”

“I agree.”

“There is one thing that may trouble you. I got alone and thought about the issue and resolved my concerns. You may feel different.”

“What is it?”

“She tried for two years to have a child. Her ex-husband has three children now.”

“Was she tested?” Jack asked.

“No.”

“We’ve always wanted a family.”

“I know.”

“I can ask Dr. Mullins to check her, if Ellen’s agreeable.”

“And if she can’t have children, what will you do? I’ve bonded with her in a way I never expected. I can’t let her go.”

Sahale stared across at his best friend, the man who was like a brother to him. “Think about your decision before you ask her to take any tests.” He checked his watch. “Time to go.” Sahale took the last swallow of his drink, threw the wrapper in the trash, and put his can in a receptacle they had for collection. Jack followed him to the truck. The air in the truck during their ride to the ranch house was filled with unspoken words.

* * * *

Mitch was waiting in his office. He waved at them to come in and have a seat.

“Where’s Daren?” Jack asked.

“He decided to do a little reconnaissance. We checked on that name and the man fits the type we’re looking for, plus his son is a congressman. The father has his fingers on the pulse of the city.” Mitch had been leaning against his desk. He walked around and sat where he was on eye level with Sahale and Jack.

“Daren and I discussed a plan before he left. He’s due back tomorrow. If what he finds supports our supposition, we’re going to send people in, disguised, to play a part.” He looked at Sahale.

“This is top-level secrecy, as you suggested, Sahale. We can’t trust anyone. Not even the government officials we’ve worked with in the past. I suspect there’s one or two moles planted, reporting back to the head man.”
