Insert the right-hand needle tip to the left of the wrap, between the yarn and the left-hand needle, from front to back.
Bring the yarn around, under the left-hand needle, and to the back of both needles. Wrap the yarn around the tip of the right-hand needle and pull the loop through to the front, as if knitting a stitch.
Your needle tips are now pointing in opposite directions.
Swing the right-hand needle tip under the working yarn so that it faces the same direction as the left-hand needle.
Transfer the stitch on the right-hand needle to the left-hand needle, from tip to tip, purlwise.
Repeat steps 2â7 for the desired number of stitches. You are casting on in pairs of stitches.
When starting to knit, always begin the first row with a knit stitch.
Getting It Right
On the first row work close to the needle tips. This prevents a gap between the pairs of stitches.
