“You’re so sweet,” he whispered, gasping inadvertently when Lana threw back her head and finally climaxed, her asshole twitching around his erection in senseless bliss, her pussy exploding in a similar chain of contractions after so much build-up. Bruce grabbed her hips and pulled her closer, plunging himself all the way inside in the process. He grunted softly as he rammed into her full-force now, no longer gentle or careful with her. When he exploded into her at last, Lana was biting her lip to stop herself from crying. Bruce had warned her – he’d said it would hurt if she allowed him to come like this, and it did. She didn’t regret her decision, though.

Bruce gently caressed her legs up and down as he pulled out of her with a satisfied sigh. “Wow,” he just said, flopping down on his side and pulling her into him with strong arms. “That was good.”

“It was.” She smiled up at him.

“I’m sorry I slammed into you like that.”

“Yeah, you really punished me.”

Bruce kissed her cheek so gently that a contented sigh escaped from her throat. “You won’t have to endure anything like that for a while,” he said with a little grin. “You’ll be safe from me.”

Lana stared into his eyes, gently touching the ripped muscles of his abdomen and chest with soft fingers. “I don’t want to be safe,” she whispered. “I want to stay here with you.”

“But I want you to be safe,” Bruce replied firmly. “And you’ll be out of harm’s way on Desida Two. Those space stations won’t be occupied or attacked even if a bloody war is gonna break out.”

“You think there’s a war coming?”

He remained silent for a long time. “I wouldn’t be surprised,” he finally said. “You know, I never thought that video footage of the mines would have such an impact. I knew the Amaltheans would care, but the rest...”

“Maybe you’ve been going about this the wrong way. You’ve always tried to convince the most powerful Elitist icons in the solar colonies, but they had too much at stake to change their ways.”

Bruce slowly nodded before rolling on his side to gaze into her eyes and stroke the curve of her hip. “Let’s not talk about the future,” he said, leaning over to kiss her again. “Let’s just focus on the now, for now.”

“Good plan,” Lana mumbled against his lips. “I want this night to last forever.”

Bruce smiled. “Let’s make it as long as we can.”

Epilogue

L
ana exhaled slowly, a warm feeling of welcome humming through her as Desida Two slid into view through the window. She was back home – with her father and her friends. And Bruce would be somewhere out there, thinking of her. Contacting her as soon as he safely could.

Last night, he’d let slip that he was planning on working together with the British and German rebels on Earth. Thanks to the mining scandal, the resistance movement on the British Isles and in Great Germany had been revived. At breakfast, Shou and Hikaru had told them there were now pockets of resistance and revolutionaries on the Oceanian continent, too. The commoners were trying to make one fist, demanding justice and equality for all. And even though the Elite still had most of the winning cards in hand, they were witnessing a dwindling of their own ranks as well. Not everybody in their club turned out to value money and power over everything else, as Bruce had so bitterly commented. The news brought back from Earth by the Japanese brothers was reason enough to be hopeful that one day, the world might look very different.

When Lana left the launch bay and headed for the exit, both Tori and her dad turned out to be waiting for her on Saturn Boulevard with relieved faces. “How did you know...” she started, as Mr. Ivanov pulled her into a desperate hug.

“It was today’s last flight from Rhea to here,” he mumbled in her ear. “I was worried sick about you, because you suddenly left without saying anything. So Victoria told me where you’d gone off to.”

“I was guessing you’d try and come back in time for work,” Tori added, a hesitant smile on her face.

“Of course,” Lana replied, slowly letting go of her dad. “I take my work very seriously. As always. You think I’d drop everything and just run after some dashingly handsome pirate, never to be seen again?”

“So you said your goodbyes?” her father asked, sounding a tad too hopeful.

“For now,” she replied. “But we’ll meet again. I’m – in love with Bruce.”

She wasn’t entirely there yet, but she knew she would be. Their bond would grow stronger with each meeting. His trust and openness had made a huge impression on her.

“Okay,” he said flatly.

“I know you can’t understand. I’m sorry.”

Mr. Ivanov shrugged. “He probably can’t understand why you love me, either.”

Lana bit back a laugh. “You’re right. Well, the chances of you ever meeting him are close to none, so you won’t have to make an effort pretending he’s the perfect son-in-law.”

“Good to know.” Her father smiled gingerly and took a step back. “I’ll have to go back to the lab for a few more hours of work. I’m on the night team this week.”

“Take care.” Lana hugged him tightly. “We’ll talk soon.”

“What’s going to happen now?” Tori wanted to know, as Mr. Ivanov briskly strolled away to the nearest elevator bank, his entire posture rigid.

“I think Bruce wants to let the current financial crisis play out. See if the world changes for the better. Earth and the solar colonies, I mean. And if not, he said he’d take matters into his own hands.”

“Sure sounds ominous.”

Lana quietly nodded, not quite knowing what to say. Bruce hadn’t elaborated on the subject – he’d been reluctant to even tell her about his plans with the British and German rebels. If that plan went bust, there was no telling what he would do next. She knew whatever it was, it’d be good for the long-suffering commoners, though. Bruce wasn’t out to supplement his own fortune anymore. Like he had told her when she’d first talked to him, it wasn’t money that he wanted. That had just been a means to an end.

“He might want to contact Alen,” Lana mumbled as they started to make their way to the escalators near the fountain on the giant plaza. “He’s going to work with the resistance in Great Germany.”

Tori stopped dead in her tracks. “You want Alen to go back to his old ways?” she said, gaping at her friend anxiously. “Please tell me you’re joking.”

“I’m not.” Lana frowned. “I think the resistance needs to grow. Don’t you? After all you’ve seen? Everything you’ve heard?”

Tori bit her lip. “Maybe. It just – scares me. I mean, I’d be a target on any rebel’s list, wouldn’t I?”

“Not if you decide to join their side.”

“Have you?”

Lana let out a deep sigh. “I guess.” She rubbed her face. “And I’m not asking Alen to turn to a life of crime once more. It’s just that he and Bruce seem to have a lot in common. They both started out revolting against the Elite system and then gradually they lost their way, forgetting about their ideals and just getting their kicks from having power and money.”

“Alen thinks Bruce is a monster,” Tori whispered. “Because he’s a murderer.”

“And Bruce thinks Alen is a sell-out,” Lana retorted. “Because he decided to play by the Elite rules.”

“Well.” Tori stared at the floor. “They don’t need to be friends to help each other out in case of a revolution. I’m sure Alen’s not too keen on playing by the rules if they’re wrong. He didn’t apply for a job on board a Desidan station for nothing. The Desidans form the only true alliance on Earth, and they are honorable people.”

In the spur of the moment, Lana reached out and hugged her friend affectionately. “We’ll figure it out. Our lives will change, and some things will be forever lost, but we both have the most important thing to get us through.”

“We do?”

“Yes.” Lana smiled. “We have love.”

“And courage,” Tori added softly. “Especially you. You’re courageous, Lana.”

It hadn’t seemed that way only a short time ago. Bruce had told her he thought she was brave, and then she’d betrayed his trust, only to come around and accept the truth about the state of the world after all. She’d ignored Bruce’s warnings and thawed his heart, despite her fears.

“Yes,” Lana agreed. “I think I am.”
