As Albert turned to talk with Yvette, Liliane felt the hairs on the back of her neck prickle. She drew in a deep breath and slipped her hand onto Sin’s arm. ‘I was beginning to wonder where you were.’

‘Just making a few last minute preparations,
mon fleur
. Are you ready?’

She nodded.

Sin turned to the assembled guests and called for their attention. ‘I promised you this would be an evening not just for dancing and revelry, but perhaps a surprise or two also.’

Her heart swelled with love as Sin raised her hand to his lips and bestowed a tender kiss upon it before he smiled at the gathering. ‘Earlier this year, Liliane and I decided, somewhat impetuously at the time, to marry. For a number of reasons, we chose to withhold that information. But it is our most fervent wish to repeat those vows tomorrow morning in the Manor’s chapel before you, our friends and family. You are all invited to a wedding!’

A collective gasp arose. Liliane registered Nate standing at the entrance to the room, Lady Carrick by his side. Her uncle nodded slightly, a smile quirking at the corners of his mouth. To the other side of him, Yvette was smiling softly, her happiness for Liliane evident in the tears that glistened as the corners of her eyes. Across the dance floor, Sara Dudley’s face was frozen in shock. Sin’s sister, Marianne, started forward, intent on reaching Liliane, joy etched across her face.

From the top of the stairs a sole person began to clap. ‘Felicitations, Liliane and Sinclair. Bravo!’ Liliane turned to see Cornelius making his way down the stairs.

As one, their friends and family began clapping and cheering, yelling their congratulations and sharing their approval with Liliane and Sin. Amid the chaos Thornton, accompanied by several footmen, appeared and commenced handing out flutes of chilled champagne to the guests.

Music began to play and Sin slipped his arms about his wife. Liliane laughed delightedly and smiled up at him. ‘I may have been running from my past, but I ran straight into the arms of my destiny. Never let me go.’

Lord Somerton’s Heir
Alison Stuart

Can the love of an honourable man save her from the memory of a desolate marriage?

From the battlefield of Waterloo to the drawing rooms of Brantstone Hall, Sebastian Alder’s elevation from penniless army captain to Viscount Somerton is the stuff of dreams. But the cold reality of an inherited estate in wretched condition, and the suspicious circumstances surrounding his cousin’s death, provide Sebastian with no time for dreams — only a mystery to solve and a murderer to bring to justice.

Isabel, widow of the late Lord Somerton, is desperate to bury the memory of her unhappy marriage by founding the charity school she has always dreamed of. Except, her dreams are soon shattered from beyond the grave when she is not only left penniless, but once more bound to the whims of a Somerton.

But this Somerton is unlike any man she has met. Can the love of an honourable man heal her broken heart or will suspicion tear them apart?

Exile’s Return
Alison Stuart

The breathtaking conclusion to Alison Stuart’s English Civil War trilogy introduces a heroine with nothing left to lose and a hero with everything to gain…

England, 1659: Following the death of Cromwell, a new king is poised to ascend the throne of England. One by one, those once loyal to the crown begin to return …

Imprisoned, exiled and tortured, fugitive Daniel Lovell returns to England, determined to kill the man who murdered his father. But his plans for revenge must wait, as the King has one last mission for him.

Agnes Fletcher’s lover is dead, and when his two orphaned children are torn from her care by their scheming guardian, she finds herself alone and devastated by the loss. Unwilling to give up, Agnes desperately seeks anyone willing to accompany her on a perilous journey to save the children and return them to her care. She didn’t plan on meeting the infamous Daniel Lovell. She didn’t plan on falling in love.

Thrown together with separate quests – and competing obligations – Daniel and Agnes make their way from London to the English countryside, danger at every turn. When they are finally given the opportunity to seize everything they ever hoped for, will they find the peace they crave, or will their fledgling love be a final casualty of war?

The Chieftain’s Daughter
Frances Housden

Frances Housden returns with her best-selling, award-winning Chieftain series in this short novel about a young woman with a strong will and a sharp mind, and the man who has nothing to offer but his heart.

Maggie McArthur never thought she would meet her fate in a clash of swords. She may wield a sword more skilfully than a needle, but it was more luck than proficiency that led to her piercing Dhugal Robertson through the shoulder. Frightened she has killed her opponent, Maggie stays to give him aid and ensure he returns to Sgian House safely. She may be the Chieftain’s daughter, but she is perfectly capable of playing the healer for a few days until she is sure Dhugal will survive. The tender feelings he seems to inspire is nothing more than concern. After all, no suitor has ever raised her interest, so why should a penniless warrior with no clan to call his own?

Dhugal’s pride should be as wounded as his shoulder from being bested by a woman at sword play, but the sight of beautiful black hair spilling from under his opponent’s bonnet has not only distracted him from his injury, but intrigued him, body and soul.

But his attraction is doomed from the beginning. Though he could fall heart-deep for Maggie, she is the daughter of one of Scotland’s most powerful Chieftains, and Dhugal is head of a penniless, homeless clan, a clan stripped of both pride and material possessions. What father would accept the troth of such a suitor? What woman could accept the hand of a man who has nothing to offer but love?
