Bride: "As I hold your hand in mine, I feel your love."
Groom: "And I feel your love; our love is not only for this moment, but for a lifetime."
Bride: Yes, for a lifetime."
Up Close and Personal
I'm a great believer in love at first sight! Especially after six years of interviewing engaged couples and helping them plan their weddings. This is one of those heart-tugging stories: Bill and Kathy Moran met in San Francisco in the summer of 1990 when he was a pharmacy student and she

was marketing director for a retail clothing store. Their mutual friend, Mike Moore, had just become engaged and they were both invited to his engagement party; Bill spotted Kathy across the room and immediately asked Mike, "Who is
that
?" When they were introduced, Kathy's first thoughts were: "Wow! What a great guycute, outgoing, potentially successful...too bad he lives in Colorado." They were thrown together at a few more social gatherings over that weekend, and as things progressed, they each realized there was a spark between them. When the weekend was over Bill asked Kathy if she would be his official date when he flew back from Colorado for the wedding the following month. Kathy accepted without hesitation and they spent the next four weeks getting to know each other via lengthy telephone conversations.
There was an instant chemistry between them and by the time they met again at Mike's wedding, they both
knew
they had something special. At the wedding everyone else sensed this, as well, and even teased about the "next wedding," referring, of course, to Bill and Kathy. It was so obvious, in fact, that when it came time for Mike to toss the garter, he didn't even bother; he just walked over and
handed
it to Bill.
Kathy rescheduled her business trips over the next four months so that all her flights "just happened" to connect through Denver, allowing them many weekends to get to know each other. A storybook romance unfolded and they became engaged one evening when Bill flew to San Francisco to see her. He took her to her favorite restaurant; then, later that night, with champague in hand, and on bended knee in the moonlight by the Golden Gate Bridge, he asked her to marry him as he slipped a ring onto her finger. She was so overjoyed that she didn't even look at it. Bill asked her, "Aren't you even going to look at your ring?"

When she glanced down, she saw that it was a "mood" ring and she didn't know what to think. Bill thought that was hilarious, but finally reached back into his pocket for the real thing: a 1-carat diamond solitaire.
They were married in Colorado the following June in a huge white tent in the side courtyard of the Manor House in Ken Caryl Valley. Everything about their wedding was "Cinderella-perfect" until it started to rain and hail, soaking the tent and filling the courtyard with a foot of the white stuff. But it all had a happy ending and here are their personalized vows:
Minister: "William and Kathryn stand before us today to declare their promises openly and gladly. William, will you take Kathryn to be your wedded wife? Will you give yourself to her? Will you share completely with her in your life together? Will you promise to be open and honest in your relationship? Will you give her all comfort and support and strength?"
Bill: "I will."
Minister: "Kathryn, will you take William to be your wedded husband? Will you give yourself to him? Will you share completely with him in your life together? Will you promise to be open and honest in your relationship? Will you give him all comfort and support and strength?"
Kathy: "I will."
Minister: "Kathryn and William, will you now turn and face one another and join hands as you pledge your love and devotion to each other as husband and wife? William, repeat after me:"
