Argar Culture
[CP].
An early Bronze Age culture of southeastern Spain, named for the type-site in Almeria. Settlements are generally fortified with rectilinear layout of houses and streets, as at El Oficio, and include extensive burials within the settlement area. Burials are individual or paired, rather than communal, in cists in the early phase of the culture and subsequently in jars. Characteristic artefacts including triangular bronze daggers and halberds and silver ornaments, the principal pottery forms being plain, carinated bowls and tall, pedestaled ‘fruit stands’. Argonne ware

Pottery type of the 4th century

, usually with a red colour-coat. Vessels are decorated with horizontal bands of impressed geometric patterns, executed with a roller stamp. The ware was made in the Argonne in northeast Gaul. Its distribution in Britain is mainly confined to the south and southeast band. Also known as Marne ware.

One of a small number of tell mounds in Transylvania situated in the upper Olt Valley, the site gives its name to a regional variant of the
CUCENTENI CULTURE
. Excavations by F. László between 1907 and 1913 revealed seven main occupation levels. Levels I–VI contained Ariu
d-style painted wares together with a range of gold jewellery and copper ornaments, weapons, and tools. Abundant evidence for craft activities was recovered, including a workshop in which pottery was made. The final phase, Level VII, belongs to the late Copper Age of the region.
