BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY.
Calvin Coolidge came into the world on July 4, 1872, in the downstairs bedroom of a small house adjacent to his father’s general store in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. Coolidge wrote of his fellow villagers: “They were a hardy, self-contained people.”
