Heat climbed from the base of his spine. His body roared for release, but he wanted to take her over the ledge with him. He wasn’t doing anything without her ever again.

His cock lengthened another fraction. Small grunts escaped him, and she echoed with rasping cries.

“Witt, I’m there.”

“Come with me,” he commanded as the first shocks stole his breath. Her inner walls squeezed, her body bowing in his arms. He held her threw the tumult of her orgasm. When he came back to himself, he lay on his back with her head on his chest.

She stroked his chest, raising gooseflesh with her touch and his hand was filled with silky skin. “Your family’s worried about you.”

“Yeah. Well, they can stop. I’ve got what I need. Well, not everything.”

She leaned on one elbow to look at him. “What do you mean?”

“We’re missing somebody pretty important. Even that stubborn donkey has been brooding without Alex around.”

She laughed, the clear, tinkling sound the theme song for the rest of his days.

Epilogue

“Line up your hips and your heels, son. That’s it,” Witt said as Alex circled the paddock on his own little pony.

Shelby leaned against the fence, watching her man and her son. All the best things in the world were right here in front of her. The sun kissed her bare arms and she welcomed it. Texas winters were never truly harsh, but she was happy to welcome spring.

“Doin’ great,” Witt called. He joined Shelby at the fence. It was impossible not to feel those flutters of want when he was standing that way. Boot on the lower part of the fence, Wranglers pulled tight across his ass. He was wearing the brand new hat she’d gotten for his birthday—white with a black band just like his old one.

“He’s so happy to finally get on a horse his size.” Shelby leaned against Witt’s strong shoulder, breathing in his manly scent of leather and soap. His hard body fortified her decision. What she was about to do was right.

“I have something to tell you.”

At her serious tone, he looked away from Alex. Dark blue eyes creased at the corners with worry. “What is it?”

“I got this the other day when I made a trip into the city for supplies.” From her back pocket, she pulled out a brand new, top-of-the-line smartphone.

He stared at the device for a long moment then flicked his gaze up to hers. “What do you think I’m going to say, Shelby?”

She laid a hand on his arm and pressed the phone into his hands. “I want you to see that not a single message is from an ex-husband or boyfriend. But there is a photo someone sent me I’d like you to see.”

Concern punctuated his brows together. She reached over and tapped the screen, bringing up the photo album.

He peered down. With a shake of his head, he said, “I don’t understand.”

“That’s a photo of the deed to your plot of land, Witt. Here on Paradise Ranch. That spot—” she pointed at the distance, “where you’ve made love to me countless times and played tag with my son…that’s going to be yours.”

“But…” His voice held a note of hope that made her hands shake.

“I’m asking you to marry me, Witt.” She took the phone from his hands and shoved it into her jeans before tangling their fingers and looking into his eyes. Her heart slammed her ribs and she wet her dry lips. “Please marry me.”

That slow crooked smile branched into a wide grin. He yanked her off her feet and spun her with a whoop.

She threw her head back and laughed, her emotions quickly sliding from nervousness to arousal as the length of his hard body fully came up against hers. She ducked under his hat with him. With her lips an inch from his, she said, “Is that a yes, Mr. Dalton?”

“On one condition, Mrs. Dalton.” His eyes twinkled.

“What’s that?”

“You let me give Alex my name too.”

A sob bubbled up her throat, but it turned to a gasp as his firm lips brushed hers in a kiss that sealed her fate forever.
