CHAPTER SEVEN

Emblazoned across the sheer white top were the words “Get a Slice of the Pie,” in orange lettering, and right underneath were two small pizza pies, each planted about where my nipples would fall when I put on the shirt.

“That sexist idiot … branding indeed.” I thought. But, the prospect of cold hard cash made me push my doubts aside. “Well, if it means money for me and Markus to eat and to have a place to stay, well I… I’ll just have to wear the damn thing,” I told myself, and I continued walking the mile or so back to Beelines. I guess it wasn’t much worse than the owl eyes I had seen placed over the nipples on a tee at a popular chain restaurant.

When I got back to the motel, I tossed the tee in a corner. Markus had made us a feast, or tried to, anyway. He had put tap water and ice in two of the cheap wine glasses from the cupboard. On the table he had a plate with two thin slivers of cheese; one for each of us, and a lidded skillet emitting a savory smell was sitting on a potholder next to it.

“Just trying to keep it hot,” he said as he lifted the lid, revealing a steamy rice and bean mixture. “I can open a can of tuna and add that to the top if you like.”

“Yum, looks delish, Markus.” It didn’t really look that appealing but I loved that he cared enough to make it for me. “Sure, let’s go all out and have the tuna too!” I gave him a peck on the cheek. “To go along with the good food, I have good news. I got a job at Slice of the Pie! I start tonight. I will get cash tips when I work my shift this evening so we will have money right away!”

“That’s fantastic, babe!” Markus face lit up and he gave me a kiss. “Now I don’t have to try and save some of this for another meal. I am starving!”

As Markus devoured the rice, beans and tuna, I picked at mine. I was not sure what he would say when he saw the tee shirt I had to wear. I could just imagine his dark eyes flaring accenting the little jagged, scar above his eyebrow.

After we ate, we relaxed for a while. I picked up the tee from where I had stowed it earlier and went into the bathroom to change. I yanked off my top and pulled the new shirt over my head, adjusting it as I tugged it on. It was just as I had anticipated. The white shirt barely concealed my voluptuous breasts. The top was so sheer you could see the definitions of my tatty bra. It dipped low and a generous portion of my boobs peeked out. The ‘Get a Slice of the Pie’ slogan was right across my cleavage, accenting the girls. The mini pizzas were, as I had expected, front and center—one on each of my nipples. My stars and moon necklace dangled right down the middle of the two pies. Geez. I needed clothes after putting the few I had through so much these past few days, but even they were better than this. “Not much choice, Kristen—no choice really,” I told myself.

I backed out of the bathroom, trying to make it to the door without Markus seeing, but he was too quick. “Hold up there! Let me give you a kiss and wish you luck on your first day.”

As he pulled me to him to wrap me in his arms, he noticed the top and I could see his eyes grow dark. But it didn’t matter. I was wearing it. We needed the money. He started to say something, but I stopped him. “Just don’t say anything Markus.”

He was shaking his head as I closed the door to the motel room. Sure, the top sucked, but it was a hell of a lot better than going hungry. I trekked to Slice of the Pie, wondering what the night would bring.

Once I got started working, I was rushing as fast as I could to serve up wings, pizza, ice-cold beer, soda and everything else on the menu. Aside from the occasional, “I’d like to slice that pie,” and a few lecherous glances, most men tried to be discreet as they gazed at my assets. After my first icy stare at one of the first customers who looked a little too long, I ignored the rest who did the same.

Sal had said there would be some training, but I was still wondering when it would start an hour later as I dished up another pepperoni. Guess it was ‘learn as you go on the job’ training.

Despite the deadness of the afternoon when I had applied for a job, evenings were a totally different story, the place was jamming. Sal was too cheap to hire enough girls to take care of the customers properly, so there was only me and another waitress, Heather, and Stevie the bus boy to take care of the entire place. Sal was there of course, but he was too busy drinking at the bar to help out.

By the time two hours had passed, I was feeling a little low. I had been working my ass off and I had a total of $16.47 in my tip jar to show for it.  The tip glasses were in the back kitchen.  Stevie, the bus boy would toss our tips in them after cleaning the table. At the end of the night we were to tip out Stevie and then we kept the rest for ourselves. When Sal wasn’t looking, I would empty the glass, eyeball the bills, and add up the change. My tips looked pretty sad compared to Heather’s. Her jar was filling quickly, and just by glancing at it I could make out a number of fives and tens in addition to the ones.

I just didn’t get it. Heather was cute but she was quite a few years older than me. We both had similar, curvy bodies, with hers being a bit more hippy. And even though I knew she had regulars, I couldn’t understand why she was making so much more than I was. I had only been there a few hours but I was getting the orders out just as quickly, and aside from putting an order in for mushroom on one pizza when they’d ordered sausage I hadn’t screwed up anything else.

When there was a lull in the kitchen, I decided to ask her. “I am working my butt off and getting the orders out, but my tips are sucking. And,” I added, indicating her tip jar, “You are doing so much better than me.”

Heather smiled at me. “Honey, these guys don’t care about the food as much as they do the attention. Instead of rushing, take your time; apologize for being slow but smile and joke with them. They don’t care about a fast pizza as much as they like their side order of a little sweetness and honey. And,” she added, glancing around to see that Sal wasn’t anywhere around. “I pour them a free beer once in a while. But mainly,” she said, giving me a wink, “Just remember you catch more flies with honey...”

Oh, so that was it. Heather gave away beers and flirted like crazy. Well, I didn’t feel right giving away the beer, but I could be slower and friendlier—maybe even a little bit flirty. I’d been rushing around the whole night and it had gotten me nowhere, I might as well try her method. As the night progressed, I took my time to laugh and joke with the customers. I would apologize to the new table if I spent too much time with the last table, but let them know that I wanted to get the orders ‘just right’ and I hoped they’d let me get theirs ‘just right’ too. As the night progressed, my tip jar started filling up. There were lots of nice green bills coloring the clear glass jar. I knew what to do now, and it looked like this was going to work out after all.

The evening was winding down as a dark haired man with swarthy skin and his male companion called me over. “What can I get you?” I asked, flashing my best ‘I hope this doesn’t look fake’, smile.

The man ogled my shirt and then grinned, “I’ll have a piece of that pie.” He chuckled at his originality as his friend egged him on.

“Tell her what you want, Sam.”

I stifled the urge to groan, but closing time was near and who knows, these could be big tippers. So, I played along. “Ha, ha, ha so cute.”  I laughed like he had cracked the best joke in the world. “Now, would you all like a pizza and some cold brewski—something on tap maybe?”

After they placed their order, I felt like patting myself on the back. I had handled that well. Sure, it was annoying as heck, but I could handle it til something better came along, and it would pay our bills.

As I turned from their table, I dropped their order slip on the floor and reached down to pick it up. As I stood up, I could see another customer had come in and sat down while I was talking to Sam and his friend. His fingers were drumming methodically, almost angrily on the table. Well, I would soon put him at ease. I started to put on another one of my big, fake-ass smiles. Then, I glanced up at the man’s face—

CHAPTER EIGHT

“Markus! I’m so surprised to see you. I…” Markus glared at me. His dark eyes narrowing, I could feel the intensity of his wolf coming out.

“I see you flirting with other men, Kristen.” He jerked his head angrily towards the two men I had just waited on.

Oh shit, was this some kind of jealous boyfriend thing? My first thought was to apologize, but what had I done? I was just doing my job and that included being friendly. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Sal starting to pay attention.

Markus stood up and picked up the chair next to him slamming it to the floor. “What the…” He was way out of line. I knew I had to get this under control—and fast

“Is something wrong?” What’s going on?” Sal barked.

“Nothing, Sal, my friend accidently knocked a chair over.”

“Markus, I’ll talk to you when we get home,” I seethed under my breath.

“We will talk now, Kristen,” Markus replied, his amber eyes rich with anger as he turned his gaze from me to the two men who I’d been talking with minutes before.

What was he going to do? Pick them up and slam them down like the chair too.

“Markus—stop, just stop!” I muttered under my breath. “You can’t act like this.”

“We need to talk, now!” he said firmly.

“You can wait there if you like. But we will talk when I am done,” I said shakily. I glanced at my watch, “in about twenty minutes. And if you do anything else…” I gave him an unwavering, piercing look, “I will not be talking or going anywhere with you, now or in the future.”

I turned on my heel walking to the kitchen, feeling Markus’s eyes burning into my back. I had seen Markus angry before, but not at me. No, it was never directed at me. I was trembling a little as I went into the kitchen.

“Geez, who the hell is that hottie?” Heather asked as she gazed at Markus. “He looks ferocious. Mmm, I would sure like to get my hands on what he’s packing.”

I brushed off Heather’s comments, thinking fast. I couldn’t believe my sweet, loving Markus was acting this way.

For a second there, I felt flattered, but deep down I knew this was not a good thing. The last thing I needed was some guy who thought he owned me, someone who would fly into a fit of jealousy over harmless flirting. Normally Markus was calm, making smart decisions, and didn’t allow his emotions to get in the way. But, it looked like he was very emotional when it came to me.

As I took a few minutes to calm down, I realized this was Markus’s alpha wolf coming out; the deep part of him that expected—no demanded, total control and dominance over everyone and everything including his woman—me. But, that was not going to happen.

I finished wiping down the plastic checked tablecloths and booth seats and rang up the last few customers, all the while feeling Markus’s steam directed toward me. After tipping out Stevie, I waved goodnight to Sal and Heather and walked over to Markus. We left the pizzeria and headed back to the motel.

We weren’t more than a few feet away before he pulled me towards him. “You are mine, Kristen. Mine. This is not the place for you. You need to quit this job!” I felt like crushing myself deep into his chest, feeling his powerful, strong arms wrapped around me. My fingertips wanted nothing more than to explore his beefy, hard body and cover him with soft, buttery kisses. But the logical part of me knew that was wrong. Yes, Markus was an alpha, but he could not control me and he should not want to. I tensed against his warm chest before he finally pulled away.

We walked the rest of the way in silence. As we neared Beelines, I could not control my emotions anymore.

“This is not happening Markus. You are not my boss. You don’t own me!”

“I need to run,” Markus said, ignoring my words. “Do you want to come?”

There was nothing I wanted more than to run … to release the tension of the past few days, feel the wind ruffling my fur, and breathe in the fresh clean air. But, I knew what running did to me. It heightened my sexual desire, my powerful longing for my mate. Let’s face it; I knew that running in my wolf made me horny as hell. If I ran, I might not be able to control my deep craving for Markus. I would succumb to his luscious lips, his rippling abs and his huge cock—just the thought of his hard erection sent a ripple of pleasure throughout my body. Even when I was annoyed or mad at Markus, I could still feel that tingling in my loins for him.

But no, not tonight. I shoved my burning desires aside. Caleb had taught his boys to dominate. In many ways I couldn’t blame him. Life at Camp Vickers could turn brutal at any time. The boys, Markus and Dorian had to be prepared to take control and make decisions quickly. But Markus also needed to learn that it was different with a mate. He needed to learn that we were in this together. We had a partnership.

When we walked into the motel room, I could see the newspaper spread out over the kitchen table. Markus had obviously gone over the classifieds again, hoping to find something in the job section; something he’d missed earlier. I loved that he was persistent; that he wanted to provide. I felt myself starting to soften, but I dug down, finding a new resolve. If this wereman and I were to have any sort of bright future together, we needed to base it on respect and love—not dominance and control. Yes, Markus did teach me a thing or two about finding my deep womanliness as a she-wolf. But, now I had to teach him how to pull back the “I am in charge” button.

And the crazy thing was, Markus was over his initial anger now. He still wanted me to quit the job, but for the most part he was back to his usual self. I wasn’t having it. There was no way I would put up with his anger each time he didn’t like something I did.

“Come on babe, run with me,” he whined sexily. “Then we’ll come back here and…” his voice trailed off as he licked my neck, the wet smoothness sending a little buzz of delight through my body.”

This hunky man was hard to resist, and for a moment I wavered. But my resolve returned.

“I’m going to take a shower, watch some TV and then I am turning in. It’s been a long day. We will talk in the morning when we both have cooled down.”

I turned my back to him and walked to the bathroom. A long, hot shower would help release the tension from my shoulders and erase the grimy pizzeria smell: a combination of wood burning pizza and the occasional slosh of beer that slapped on my shirt as I served.

I turned on the faucets and stepped into the shower. The steamy water felt so good running down my back and over my shoulders. I grabbed a cake of soap and began massaging the creamy bar into my skin.

As I washed myself, my back to the door, I could hear Markus coming into the bathroom, probably to take a leak before he went running. As he finished up, I caught a brief reflection of him in the chrome. I quickly realized he didn’t know I knew he was there, and I decided to continue the ruse. Why not let him see what he was missing? I turned towards him, my eyes closed, facing the clear shower curtain. I began rubbing my tits slowly with the soap, sudsing each one slowly and letting the warm, foamy spray drip down between my breasts. My nipples were taut and I imagined Markus’s face as he watched them. Then, I stroked the bar over my stomach in a circular motion, going lower and lower, just to the top of my pubic hair.

After a few strokes, I moved the bar to my backside, rubbing the soap along my butt cheeks and crack. I deliberately let the cake slip from my hand, bending over in the shower to pick it up, giving Markus a clear view of my ass. I took my time retrieving it, giving Markus plenty of time to admire its fullness. Standing up, I moved the bar down the length of my pussy and back up, then down and under, making sure not to miss any of the folds. I heard a soft groan escape Markus’s lips. Hearing his moan sent a rush through my body. I could feel my knees weakening. My pussy was wetter than wet and it wasn’t from the shower water. God, I wanted that man so bad. But that was not going to happen this time. I steeled myself, controlling my urge to pull him into the shower with me and fuck his brains out.

I turned towards him. “Markus, I did not realize you were in here.”

“I um, I was just…”

“I’m almost done,” I said. “I’ll be out in a minute.”

Markus lingered for a moment, but when he realized the show was over he sulked out of the bathroom.

Ok, so maybe I am wrong for making him want me. For trying to make him see what he was missing when he did something I didn’t like. Yes, maybe I was wrong. If he had been almost anyone else I would have called myself a tease.

But Markus was no ordinary man or werewolf for that matter. Markus was
the alpha male werewolf,
and as his woman I had to pull out all the stops,
physically, mentally,
and
sexually
; so that he did not control me but that we were partners equally.
