CHAPTER TEN

Dorian and his friends yelped and took off, racing into the woods. Markus ran protectively in front of me, and then we heard another shot. I crouched down with Markus and tried to shield him with my body, but I couldn’t see the shooter anywhere. I knew Markus wouldn’t shift with anyone but another of his kind watching. That would put the whole Lycan clan in danger.

“Get out of here you freaks!” a voice shouted from the woods. “You sick monsters!”

I gasped and realized that though Markus had been in his wolf the whole time, whoever it was may have seen Dorian and the other two men shift earlier. They may have watched the entire fight. If that was the case, then whoever was shooting now knew that werewolves existed.

“Listen to me Markus,” I whispered beside his ear. “We have to get out of here. I'm going to distract him, you run for the woods. Meet me back at Susan's. I will be there,” I promised. Markus looked at me with worried eyes. I knew he didn't want to leave me, but this was no longer just about me. The entire clan was at stake. He knew this was the only way we could protect his clan and ourselves. I stood up and started walking in the direction of the shots.

“Hello?” I called out. “Hello, who's there?”

“What the hell’s going on here?” a man with a rifle demanded to know as he stepped out from behind a tree.

I had to think fast. “Dogs—mean nasty dogs.” I said. “I was near the edge of the forest and those awful dogs started coming after me. They chased me into the woods. But when you came they ran off.” I gave him what I thought would look like a grateful smile, hoping he believed me.

“Dogs,” he chuckled, eyeing me with amusement. “Those weren’t no dogs. They were wolves. Haven’t you ever seen a wolf before woman? They were the biggest wolves I ever seen.” He scratched his head. “For a minute there I thought I seen them change from men to wolves.” He chortled, “There must have been a little something extra in that joint I was smoking today, yeah, that was pretty good stuff.” He leered at me. “You must be pretty shook up. You wanna come on back to the house and smoke some pot?” As he cocked his head waiting for an answer, he noticed the blood on my arms. His eyes narrowed as he surveyed the rest of my body. “You are pretty tore up,” he said. “Those cuts need to be cleaned. Come on back to the house and we’ll fix you up and have us some weed.”

“It's okay,” I said as I crossed my arms to hide the bleeding wounds. “I'll be fine, thank you for your help.”

“You shouldn't be out here in these woods alone,” he warned. “Those
dogs
,” he smirked, “could come back any time.”

“No, I'm going home now,” I insisted, brushing him off.

He shook his head. “I can’t force you to do nothing I guess.” He eyed me suspiciously. “Just what were you doing near the woods anyway?” He didn’t wait for me to answer. “Well, suit yourself.”

I breathed a sigh of relief as I watched him hesitate but then start walking away. There was no time to lose. I needed to get back to Markus. I quickly made my way back to the truck the weremen had left behind. I glanced inside the pickup. The keys were in the ignition, but as I started to climb in I realized I needed to run. Running would clear my head and help me work off some of the day’s stress. And besides, what if the truck had been stolen? I would wind up in jail and we would have an even bigger mess. It was best to go back to Susan’s in my wolf.

I stepped out of the truck. Inhaling deeply, I started transitioning into my wolf form. As I shifted I quickly gazed around the area. I was pretty deep in the woods, but I guessed that if I followed the dirt path the pickup had traveled on and headed north, I would find my way back to town.

After I shifted, I started running as quickly as I could to get to Susan’s. Because of my lacerations it was painful as I sprinted through the woods, but I visualized Markus and how happy he would be to see me. I could smell exhaust fumes in the air, and faintly hear the sound of a truck engine somewhere in the distance, but otherwise the forest had its natural hum opening up to me as I ran. “Run faster Kristen. Faster.” I told myself, “You have to get to Markus as quickly as possible.”

It seemed like it took forever, but eventually I got to Susan’s. I scratched at the back entrance and Markus opened the door for me. I was so relieved to see him there already. I switched into human form as quickly as possible once I stepped inside, and I fell into his arms. I closed my eyes, enjoying his warm embrace. After a few minutes we pulled apart and Markus took a long look at me.

“Are you okay?” he asked as he studied my body, looking for bruises, bites and cuts. “We need to get you cleaned up,” he stated firmly.

“So tired,” I said nodding sleepily, ready to collapse in his arms. I was very worn out from the run and everything that had led up to it. I let him lead me into Susan's main bathroom where she had a large tub, several bars of lemon soap, and clean towels waiting.

“Just let me know if you need anything,” Susan called out from another room in the house. Markus ran some warm water in the tub then helped me slip into the water. He stripped down to his boxers so his clothes wouldn't get wet and began washing each of my cuts.

“How did you find me?” I asked.

He reached over and grabbed his pants from the pile of clothes nearby. Slipping his hand into the pants pocket, he pulled out my necklace, dangling it in front of me. “I found this.” He carefully put the chain around my bruised neck. I reached up to touch the stars and moon charm. It was so reassuring to have it back again.

“I went out this morning to see if things were safe in town and where we might find work.”

I nodded, “Yeah, I saw your note.”

“Well, I went for a little run first. I needed the release. Then I pounded the streets of Waynesboro trying to decide what we should do next. When I got to Main Street, I could smell you there. I didn’t see you but I just knew you had been there.” He smiled at me, his amber eyes locking on mine. “Kristen, I would recognize your scent anywhere.”

A little thrill of excitement oozed through my body as I met his gaze. I visualized Markus’s Roman nose, trailed by his tongue sniffing every inch of my body as he licked my neck, my breasts, my tummy, my thighs, and finally buried his lips deep into my pussy. “Yes,” I murmured my face flushing.

“A lady on the street had just picked up something off the ground and I could see part of a chain. I could smell you all around her so I knew it had to be your necklace. She gave it to me when I was able to identify what the charm was.”

“Wow,” I teased. “I must smell pretty bad.”

Marcus gave me a saucy grin. “Haha, no baby, I love your luscious scent.” He pursed his lips, throwing me an air kiss. Swishing the water around, he grabbed a cake of the fragrant lemon soap and started washing my back, his voice sobering as he continued. “I knew you would never take off that necklace, so you must have lost it in a scuffle. It had to be Dorian. I figured he would take you to the woods, territory he knows. He wouldn’t want to risk staying in town. So, I started tracking deep into the woods nearby. Not too many drive that far back in the forest, so it wasn’t hard to smell the fumes and see tracks from a truck that had recently been through there. I tracked the pickup and there you were.”

“Thank you,” I whispered, tears forming with gratitude and relief as I met his eyes.

He rinsed the last of the cuts on my arms and looked up at me as the soapy water washed away.

“Are you really okay?” he asked.

“I know it looked like Dorian and I were going to kiss when you found us,” I said as I looked into his eyes. “But it was just to gain his trust so you and I could find each other again. You know that, don't you?”

“Of course I do,” he grunted and leaned up to kiss me softly. I wanted to know for sure. I wanted him to know for sure. I pulled him into the bathtub with me.

“Hey,” he laughed as his boxer shorts became soaked with water. He took them off and tossed them aside. His laughter faded. “Seeing him try to kiss you tore me apart,” he admitted as he stared into my eyes. “I couldn't stand the thought of him touching you.”

“I'm sorry,” I said. “I didn't want him to.” I tried to focus on what Markus was saying but just looking at him made my loins ache with desire. Mmm … I wanted to run my hands all over his muscular arms and pecs and that huge, rock hard dick he packed was just begging for special attention.

“I know you didn't,” he replied. I felt his fingertips stroking up and down the insides of my thighs. “I know you were just trying to do what was best to protect yourself. Those other wolves, they didn't…”

“No,” I said quietly. “Dorian wouldn't let them.”

Markus grimaced. “Well at least he did one thing right.”

I shifted in the tub as his touch began to awaken my desire for him. “I thought I might never see you again,” I said, as tears began to well in my eyes.

“I told you,” he breathed as he leaned closer to me. “I'm always going to be with you.” He leaned in, and we shared a long kiss. I nodded and he kissed me harder. His hand roamed beneath the soapy water, slipping inside of my pussy. It felt so good that I let out a low groan.

“Shhh,” he laughed a little and kissed the nape of my neck. Though I had been exhausted just minutes ago, Markus was awakening a new energy inside of me.

“I want you, Markus,” I gulped out as he continued to tease me into a frenzy. “I want you right now, please. When I thought those other men might have me, it made me so sick. All I could think about was you. I need you,” I looked into his eyes. “Please, Markus.”

He growled a little and nipped at my bottom lip. “Do you think you're strong enough?” he asked breathlessly. “You've had a rough night,” he groaned, his hand roaming my stomach, finally landing on one of my breasts. He kneaded it slowly, gently squeezing the nipple between his thumb and forefinger.

“You make me strong,” I murmured next to his ear as I felt my nipple grow taut. “You're the only reason I kept running.”

“Kristen, you amaze me,” he muttered and kissed me deeply again, his tongue intertwining with mine. I felt his body slide closer to me under the water. He was so ready and eager. I could feel his rod pushing against me. “I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you,” he groaned. “I'm sorry I left you alone.”

Markus slid his cock into my wet, eager pussy, giving me exactly what I wanted. I closed my eyes and gasped as I felt his cock fill me to the hilt. He held me tightly, and I felt him pulsating inside of me with slow, deep strokes; the water lapping harder and harder as we moved together as one.

“I'm sorry I didn't listen to you and stay in the room,” I moaned as he slowly glided back and drove into me once more.

“I'm going to be by your side, from now on,” he assured me. Then his own words were drowned out by heavy grunts as he thrust deep inside of me again. I had to bite my bottom lip to keep from crying out too loudly. His fingers dug into my hips, guiding them along with each of his hard thrusts. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him again. My legs curled around his back so that he could lift me from the bottom of the tub, and the water sloshed out of it with each force of him diving inside of me. I ignored the mess we were making as the power of the passion I felt left me dizzy and unable to think.

“Markus, oh God, Markus,” I moaned. When I heard pounding I thought he was slamming me so hard the tub was rocking against the wall. It took me a minute to realize that wasn't the case. Markus must have been even more lost in his climax because he didn't notice the sound at all.

“Yes, Kristen!” he groaned crushing his lips to mine. I felt him explode inside of me, and for a moment I forgot about the pounding, but only for a second, because then I heard Susan’s voice.

“What the hell…” he growled as he reluctantly unwound from me.

“Markus, Kristen, get out here,” Susan cried through the bathroom door. “I knew I shouldn’t have let you stay here,” she added worriedly as we scrambled to get out of the bathroom. Markus threw on his pants and tee as I quickly pulled my shirt and jeans on my wet body.

“What's going on?” Markus asked as he yanked open the bathroom door.

“There are a bunch of people on the front lawn.” She bit her lower lip adding, “They have to be looking for you two.”

We hurried into the living room, Markus quickly flicking off the light as we entered. He motioned for us to duck down into the shadows. We could hear someone beating on the door and ringing the doorbell. “Markus what are we going to…” my voice trailed off as Markus put his finger to his lips. Looking warily towards the door, he gestured for us to stay down in the shadows.

Awakened by the commotion, Zachary came down the stairs rubbing his eyes.

“Mommy, I hear noises.” He pouted. “I can’t sleep.”

“Shhh, come here to mommy.” Susan said. She pulled his small body towards hers, wrapping him closely against her chest.

“Open up,” a loud voice said from outside the door. “We know that you've got that woman beast inside of there with you! Open this door!”

Woman beast! Shocked, I realized they meant me.

“You got them big
dogs
with you woman beast?” a voice in the crowd called out snickering. I recognized it as the man from the forest. “Monster wolves—I bet she got those monster wolves with her.” He hollered.
