The Waves Stitch

This pattern creates pretty waves in your crochet fabric. Use it to create a vibrant color scheme with contrasting colors and black, or a soothing one with pastels and white.

You will need to know how to chain stitch, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet.

This pattern is worked in sets of 10 plus 2. For this example I have chained 32 plus 2 (3 sets of 10 plus 2).

Row 1: With Color A sc into the 2
nd
ch from the hook *sc into next ch, hdc into next ch, dc into next ch, trb into next ch, dc into next ch, hdc into next ch, sc into next 2 chs* rep across

Row 2: ch1, sc into each st across

Row 3: With Color B ch5, dc into next st, hdc into next st *sc into each of the next 2 sts, hdc into next st, dc into next st, trb into next st, dc into next st, hdc into next st* rep across row

Row 4: ch1, sc into each st across

Row 5: With Color A ch1, sc into next st *hdc into next st, dc into next st, trb into next st, dc into next st, hdc into next st, sc into each of the next 2 sts* rep across row ending with hdc into last st

Row 6: ch1, sc into each st across

Repeat Rows 2-6 until desired length carrying colors up the side of the fabric.

 

The Wave Stitch

 

 

 

 

 

The Houndstooth Stitch

This stitch pattern creates a stunning houndstooth effect. Use contrasting colors to really make the color pop, or use colors in the same color family for a subtler effect.

You will need to know how to chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet.

This pattern is worked in sets of 4. For this example I chained 24.

Row 1: With Color A sc into the 2
nd
ch from the hook, hdc into next ch, dc into next ch, sk 3 ch, sc into next ch, ch4 *working down ch4, sc into 2
nd
ch from hook, hdc into next ch, dc into next ch, sk 3 ch sts, sc into next ch, ch4* rep across

Row 2: With Color B ch4 *working into the side of the next triangle, dc into dc, hdc into hdc, sc into sc,

Row 3: With Color B ch4 * working down ch4, sc into 2
nd
ch from hook, hdc into next ch, dc into next ch, sk 3 ch sts, sc into next ch, ch4* rep across ending with a trb into the top of the turning chain 2 rows below

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until desired length, alternating colors every 2 rows.

The Houndstooth Stitch

The Diamond Stitch

This is a very easy stitch, but it produces pretty diamonds in the crochet fabric.

You will need to know how to chain and double crochet.

Pattern is worked in sets of 2 plus 1. For this example I have chained 21.

Row 1: With Color A dc into the 4
th
ch from the hook, dc into the same sp, sk 1 ch *2dc into the next ch, sk 1 ch* rep ending with a dc into the last ch st

Row 2: With Color B ch3, dc into the same sp, work 2 dc between each set of 2 dc, end with 2 dc into last st

Row 3: With Color A or C ch3 work 2 dc between each set of 2 dc, end with  dc into last st

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 alternating colors as you like until desired length.

 

The Diamond Stitch

 

The Rick Rack Stitch

My mother and grandmother made afghans out of this stitch with their scraps of yarn in their stashes. The result is a colorful and bright afghan that is nice and dense. You can use all sorts of colors, or decide upon a coordinated color scheme.

You will need to know how to chain and half double crochet.

This pattern is worked in sets of 3 plus 3. For this example I have chained 24.

Row 1: hdc into the 4
th
ch from the hook, ch1, hdc into the same ch, sk 1 ch *into the next ch work hdc, ch1, hdc, sk 1 ch* rep across ending with a hdc into the last st

Row 2: ch2, into each ch1 sp work 1 hdc, ch1, 1 hdc to last st, hdc into the last st

Repeat Row 2 changing colors as you like until you reach the desired length.
