DEDICATION:

For Diane; because you have remained just as graceful and kind ten years later, because you see people for who they are on the inside and not how they appear on the outside, because you know everything about me and love me anyway, and because you changed what having a real best friend meant to me. I love you, and I’m proud of you, always.

Chapter One

GRACE

The look on Heather’s face made me feel like the smallest person alive. Her eyes shot to the swirling water in the toilet, like she couldn’t really believe what she had just seen. Her eyes narrowed into tiny lines and she spun around and made a run for the door of Cutter’s room.

“Heather!” I called out after her, tripping over my own two feet as I tried to catch up with her. I reached the door just as she was about to open it and I pushed her body to the side, throwing my back up against the wood so that she couldn’t open it. “Heather, no! It’s not what you think!”

She grabbed me by the wrist and tried to fling my body out of the way. “It’s not what I think? It’s not what I think? What I think is that I just walked in on the woman my brother cares about flushing her birth control pills down the toilet! Are you telling me that didn’t happen?”

My insides felt like they were all knotted up into tight balls. “I can explain.”

“I should have known better than to think that you were different.” She took a step back from me and crossed her arms over her chest. “You’re just another slut looking to trap my brother.” She shook her head. Disdain consumed every single one of her features. “I can’t believe I actually thought you were different, you aren’t, you’re even worse than the rest of them. At least, they're honest about being fucking whores.”

“Hey!” I snapped. “I’m not a whore!” I understood that she was upset, Cutter was her brother and this did look pretty bad but I wasn’t going to let her tear me down or talk trash about what I felt for her brother when it was the realest thing I had ever known. “If you would just let me explain…”

“You can explain it to my brother, slut.” Suddenly the hate in her face turned to sadness and her eyes started to water a little bit. “I can’t believe you actually fooled me. You know I actually came here wanting someone to talk to? And I thought… I thought you might understand but you’re just like everyone else, a liar who only cares about herself.”

I sighed. “It’s not like that, Heather, it’s just really complicated and I wish I could tell you what’s going on, I wish I could trust someone that much right now but…” I bit the bottom part of my lip until I could taste blood. “But, I just can’t.”

Heather rolled her eyes, like it was clear to her what a big fat liar I was. “I don’t care about anything you have to say, you can tell Cutter whatever you want, good luck coming up with a good story before I tell him the truth.” She dug her hand into her pocket and pulled out her cell phone, starting to type in her brother’s number.

Shit.

I liked Heather, I really did. I felt like I had just started to develop some kind of relationship with her, too. But I couldn’t let her run off to Cutter and tell him what she had walked in on before I had a chance to let him know what was going on with his father myself. I cursed myself for giving her phone back to her in the first place.

I pushed forward and grabbed her phone out of her hand, slipping it into my bra before she had a chance to try and get it back. “I’m sorry, but I can’t let you do that.”

“What is it with you and my phone?” She scowled. “You’re always taking it.” She slid closer to me, looking me up and down. “Look, Grace, I’m not trying to get involved with you and my brother’s relationship. My brother isn’t even my favorite person in the world right now. It’s just…”

Instead of finishing her sentence, she lunged toward me and kicked me as hard as she could in my shin. A large pain shot up and down my leg and my knee gave out in the center, causing me to fall half way toward the ground and grab at the spot her boot had dug into.

“Owe!” I called out. “What the fuck?” I rubbed it back and forth, trying to fade the ache out of my body as fast as possible. What a crazy fucking bitch Cutter’s sister was.

I looked up and came face to face with the barrel of a gun.

Like I said…

Crazy. Fucking. Bitch.

Chapter Two

CUTTER

I tapped my foot back and forth on the floor of the SUV. I wished I could be on one of my bikes, the wind blowing across my skin and the smell
of

the
air on my face. Riding one of my babies always seemed to relax me in a way nothing else could.

Of course, Grace was an even better option these days.

I licked my lips as I thought about her touching herself while I watched. How fucking hot had that whole entire thing been? I wanted to get this whole damn night over with so I could get back home and break her in even more. I couldn’t wait until I got to fuck her again, even harder this time.

The thought satisfied me instantly.

“Why are you grinning like that?” Shutter asked, leaning up from the back seat and shoving his head between the seats. “You just got this silly looking grin on your face.” He looked back and forth between Blaze and me. “How come?”

“Yeah, Cutter.” Blaze said, shooting me a satisfied grin. “How come?”

We’d been on the road less than two hours and Shutter had already been asking questions every two minutes, annoying the fuck out of me. Blaze was enjoying every second of it since I’d brought Shutter along against the advice of him and every other brother involved in the operation of Stone’s capture.

What the fuck could I do? Shutter was all excited. Plus, if I wasn’t supposed to be here, at least, I had some company. I wasn’t sure if my dad knew or not yet that I had ended up going along but if he had I was sure he was losing his damn mind by now.

“I’m not grinning at all,” I told them both sternly. “I’m focused on the task at hand, just like the two of you should be.” I took a long swig out of my beer then rolled down the window, letting the empty bottle get lost in the wind. The sound of the glass breaking faded into the distance as we zoomed down the highway.

“I think he’s thinking about Grace,” Blaze offered up helpfully.

Shutter frowned. “What about her?”

“Well, he’s probably trying to decide when a good time to pop the question is. You see, if he waits too long he’ll have to deal with it after he fully takes over as president but if he does it now, he can just concentrate on the wedding until the time comes… but then he risks looking kind of crazy since they haven’t been together that long.” Blaze shook his head, grabbing a beer from the case on the floor next to me and popping the cap off. “What do you think he should do, Shutter?”

“You’re getting married?” Shutter shouted so loudly that a sleeping Ace stirred back and forth next to him. “Why didn’t you tell me? We need to celebrate! Wait… can I be your best man? I know Blaze may be the more obvious choice but…”

“No ones getting married!” I snapped. “Blaze is just being a fucking asshole, like usual.” I pushed him so hard that the car shifted into the lane next to us and Blaze spit his beer out all over the place.

“Can you guys shut up?” Ace snapped. “Some of us are trying to rest up.”

“Good thinking,” Shutter told him, patting him on top of his head. “Close your eyes and get some rest. Me? I’m too worked up to sleep! This is going to be the best night of my life.” He paused, "hey, Ace?” he asked, reaching over. “Can I see your gun now?”

He made a reach for Ace’s pocket but Ace grabbed his hand and pushed it away from him. “Don’t ever reach for my weapon again, do you understand me?”

After Shutter nodded Ace shot me a death glare.

Clearly, Ace was just as thrilled about Shutter being there as Blaze was.

“Anyway,” Shutter said, backing away from Ace. “I think you’re right, Blaze, I think he was thinking about Grace. I mean
,
I know that he really misses her.”

“Oh, I agree, Shutter.” Blaze chuckled. “He misses her so much it hurts.”

I shook my head. “You two have too much time on your hands. I’m not thinking about any woman right now, I’m thinking about the business, just like the two of you should be.”

This was a lie. I mean, yeah, I was thinking about business and what was going to happen once we got in there and how I was going to capture Stone, but I was thinking about Grace, too. It was kind of hard to not think about Grace, she was pretty special.

Not to mention drop dead fucking sexy.

I wanted to wrap her up in my hot cum for days.

My cock twitched, taking me back to the first night I fooled around with her and how hot she’d looked down on her knees with my dick crammed down her throat. That pussy was good but so was her head game, I made a mental note to have her taste my cock the next time I saw her.

I inhaled deeply, getting my body under control. I missed everything about her already. I wondered if I would ever get used to the feeling of actually missing a girl.

“That’s not what you told her before,” Cutter pointed out, pulling my cell phone out of nowhere and shoving it between Blaze and me. “See? You texted her a half hour ago and said you missed her already!”

Blaze burst out laughing.

I snatched my phone away from him. “You know what, Shutter? We usually stay silent on the way to our missions, use the time to reflect on what’s about to go down.”

“Oh, gotcha.” Shutter shot me a wink and leaned back.

“Shut up,” I mumbled to Ace, who was laughing just as hard as Blaze in the back seat. “You go back to sleep and you,” I shot Blaze another punch. “You just worry about driving.”

A few minutes later all the laughing had finally died down and Blaze gunned the gas further toward our destination. I held my phone tight in my hands, not wanting to give Shutter or anyone else another opportunity to get anywhere near it.

I checked the screen again, still no response from Grace. This was concerning, not like we’d texted that much since I started fucking around with her, but when I had she’d always answered right away. I instantly started to worry, hoping that she hadn’t gone ahead and done anything stupid, like sneak into the backseat of any of our cars. I had double-checked them all before we left but you never knew with girls, especially Grace, they were tricky.

I decided to text the guard I had put on her; just to make sure everything was
all good
. I’d just finished typing out the words when Blaze slammed on the breaks and then switched lanes rapidly, speeding up.

Shutter put his seatbelt on in the backseat.

I rolled my eyes then looked at Blaze. “What’s up?”

He glanced in the review mirror. “We have a tail.”

I shot around, glancing at the back of us. A black car was speeding up two lanes over, not wanting to lose us. It looked like an undercover cop car, and judging from how fast he was going, losing us wasn’t an option.

This was just the type of shit my father had been worried about.

How long had he been following us for? I got annoyed with myself right away, had I been thinking about Grace so much that my mind was slipping? How could I not have noticed a fucking fed following us?

“Oh, that guy?” Shutter asked, turning around in his seat and pressing his head against the glass. “That guy’s been following us since we got on the highway back home.” He nodded. “Uh huh, uh huh, he’s been with us the entire ride.”

“Why the fuck didn’t you say anything?” I demanded.

Shutter shrugged. “I don’t know, I thought he was with us.”

“You idiot!” Ace shouted at him. “I could shoot your ass right now.”

“No one’s shooting anyone,” Blaze said, his eyes still in the mirror. “We just need a plan, that’s all. Maybe if I speed up enough I’ll be able to lose him at the next merge.”

Ace huffed. “You see how fast that bastard is going? No way we’re going to lose him.” He looked back at the cop who was gaining on us with little effort. “No, he’s definitely not going anywhere.”

I ran my hands back and forth across my temple. How could I have been so foolish? Yeah, it was an adjustment having a woman like Grace in my life, someone who I actually cared about and wanted to go home to at the end of the day. I’d never had a piece of property like her before, so golden and pure, but that was no excuse. I needed to come up with a damn balance; I couldn’t be letting thoughts of Grace lead me into making sloppy mistakes.

Blaze was right.

I needed a plan, a way to make this shit right.

“Pull off at the next exit,” I demanded.

Blaze raised his eyebrows at me. “But…”

“Just do it,” I cut him off. “I know what I’m talking about.”

Blaze knew better than to question me. Unlike other people, he got it. When I said something it meant to fucking do it. Even if you didn’t agree with it, the more you fought me on it, the more it pissed me off. Blaze knew me well enough to know the difference between when I was being unreasonable and when I had a straight cut plan.

Blaze shot off the highway, taking a left at the light and pulling into a small gas station I motioned for him to turn into. Sure enough, a few minutes later the cop pulled into the building next door, surveying us from afar. “Ace,” I turned around with apologies already on my face. “You stay here with Cutter.”

Ace let out a loud sigh. “Sure, that’s what I’m here for, to babysit.”

“Who needs to be babysat?” Shutter asked, confused.

I motioned for Blaze to follow me and we got out of the car, going into the gas station. I glanced around when we got inside and spotted a small guy behind the counter. “Is there a back door out of this place?”

The guy looked bored. “Employee access only.”

Blaze lifted up his shirt and revealed his gun. “Not anymore.”

His eyes grew wide. “Right over there.”

He pointed toward a room off to the side of the building and Blaze and me wasted no time getting out of there. When we emerged outside we walked around the back of the building and crept up behind the cop car from behind. The piece of shit inside the car was completely oblivious to anything going on around him. Fucking cops always thought they were untouchable.
Like nothing was going to happen to them because they had a fucking badge.

The cop was eating something, his eyes glued on the gas station next door. I looked at Blaze and he nodded, drawing his gun out of his waistband as he crept up on the passenger side door.

I pressed my boot deep into the dirt, taking each step toward him carefully. “Can we help you with something?” I called out as soon as I reached the edge of his window.

He went for his piece immediately, his hand going to his side.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” I called out, motioning to Blaze who already had his gun out and pointed at the cop’s head through the passenger side window.

He pulled his hand back, stunned.

I swung the door open roughly. “Come on, get out and join the party.”

He obeyed slowly and Blaze crossed the front of the car, his gun still drawn. “As fun as follow the leader is, we just aren’t in the game playing type of mood today, are we, bro?”

I shook my head. “We definitely aren’t.”

The cop shook his head, still shocked to see us standing right in front of him. “I wasn’t following you, gentleman, I think you must have me confused with someone else.” He glanced around the parking lot, wishing that someone were around to witness what was going on. “I’m out here on an unrelated call.”

“Oh, an unrelated
call
, right, right.” I looked to the side, smirking and then snapped back around and punched him as hard as I could in the stomach. “How’s that for an unrelated call, huh?”

The cop fell to his knees, clutching his stomach.

Blaze pushed him out of the way and swung the door open to his undercover cruiser. A second later he yanked the radio out of the center island with a hard tug, sending sparks and exposed wires flying everywhere. He tossed it out onto the gravel. “Oops.”

“Damn,” I said, looking down. “Doesn’t that suck.”

Blaze emerged from the car with the cops cell phone and gun in his hands. “Thank you so much for being so generous, it’s such a rare occurrence these days that our friends in blue would give back to little old us.” He stuck them in the pocket of his black leather jacket and kicked at the dirt with his boot, sending dust and dirt flying into the pussy ass cop’s eyes.

I smirked and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt, pulling him really close to me. “You run on back to your boss and tell him that the longer he tries to play this game with me, the worse it’ll be for him. He'll lose every fucking time.” I released him, smashing the back of his head into the doorframe of his back door.

He clutched his head. “Fuck!”

I glanced at the red blood smears on the white paint of the car and shrugged. “Looks like you need to get to the car wash.” Blaze chuckled and I bent over, grabbing my knife out of the side of my boot. I flipped it open and walked to the back of the cruiser slowly. “Now I don’t think you’re going to have much of a chance to follow us any further.” I dug the blade into the black leather and ran a deep slit through the top of it, causing the air to begin to drain out.

The cop let out a gasp, watching me. “You don’t have to do that! I won't follow you anymore!” He looked helpless on the ground, like a scared puppy being left behind while his family went on vacation. “Just leave, just go on your way!”

If I didn’t know all cops were pieces of crap, I might have actually believed him. Instead, I tossed the knife straight up in the air over his head to Blaze. He caught it with little effort, not breaking the skin in the slightest. He followed my lead and did the same with the front tire as I did with the back.

He chuckled and shook his head, watching the tire slowly going limp. “Hey, you have a great day now, officer.” He shut the knife and tossed it back to me like a football. “I’d get back in the car and put the heat on, it’s getting chilly out here.” He hugged his black jacket closer around his chest.

I laughed loudly and started to follow Blaze back across the parking lot toward where Ace and Shutter were waiting in the car. I kicked at the dirt as I passed him, sending the same specs of dust flying into his air pipes. “You take care now.”

I could hear him starting to
cough
as I got further away from his body. “Something tells me he won’t be bothering us anymore today, Blaze.” I slung my arm around his neck. “What do you think, brother?”
