“Yeah. That’s exactly what I like about you,” Walter said, walking closer. “You say what you think and do what you want.”

“I admire you too. You’ll get there one day,” Jane said, dashing away from close proximity to the sink to rinse her cup.

Two seconds later, she felt the heat of Walter along her back, long before two large hands blocked her in on either side. His rising interest in her was already noticeable by the time he stepped into her. The evidence of how much he desired her was as impressive as all the other times.

“Jane. You know I want you.” Walter bent his head until his cheek was against her hair. “You smell like mint and citrus. Also chocolate chip cookies right now.”

“The chocolate was because I needed comforting,” she said, more words escaping that could be taken in several ways.

“I’ll comfort you if you’ll comfort me back,” Walter said, his voice a tiny whisper between them.

Jane groaned. “If I had known you were coming by, I’d have dressed a little more. . .oh wow. . .that feels amazing,” she said, leaning her hot, heavy breasts into Walter’s large hands as they left the sink and came unerringly to the front of her. All that separated them was her favorite t-shirt. She’d never feel the same way about it again.

But no sooner had that thought occurred than she felt Walter’s hands slide down to her waist and back up under her shirt to cup both naked breasts at the same time. As he squeezed and massaged them, his sexy groan in her ear had her straightening, eliciting a surge forward, his eager erection rubbing hard against her curves.

Phrases like ‘glorious’ came to her mind.

When he pinched her straining nipples, Jane heard herself call out his name loudly, the sound bouncing around her quiet kitchen.

“I have dreamed a lot about what you slept in, making bets with myself about whether it would be just a t-shirt or lacy lingerie. You’re the only woman I’ve ever met who I think would make both look equally sexy,” Walter said, his hands tightening, pulling her closer. “God, I want this first time to last for as long as it can.”

First time?
” Jane squeaked out, too distracted by what Walter was doing to really be logical. “Tonight. . .or like. . .ever.”

Walter laughed and eased his hands out of her shirt, only to move them to her hips as he surged hard against her. Some distant part of him registered the fact that he had bent Jane over the sink in his enthusiasm. Her lack of complaint about it did not help him rein his predatory beast in. “Well, it’s been a pretty long time for me, Jane Fox. How long has it been for you?”

Jane mumbled something under her breath. He couldn’t tell if she was answering or swearing. “What are you doing?” Walter asked, groaning in her ear again as he rubbed against the back of her trying to stop the ache. He paused when she put a hand out to the side and started folding fingers. He tightened his grip as he laughed.

“Jane? Are you really counting? It doesn’t matter that much.”

He lifted her to her toes to change their angle. Just as he suspected, he fit perfectly that way too. When she moaned again and grabbed the sink edges, he bent over her back and kissed her neck. It was not elegant, not beautiful, and not the poetic lovemaking he wanted to give her. Yet her whimpers when he slid one hand between her legs sent an earthquake of need through him. And he finally got how one willing, enthusiastic woman could be enough for any man.

“Since my divorce. . .there’s been no one since my divorce. Did you bring protection? Please say yes,” Jane demanded, almost screaming out the words. Walter’s exasperated sigh behind her answered in the negative. As did the fact that he immediately stopped moving. Damn her luck. At least this seduction hadn’t been too premeditated. Somehow that would have been worse.

“I wasn’t thinking clearly when I rushed over here. I was planning to take care of everything. . .but I just. . .I forgot. All I could think at the bar was that I was tired of strange women buying me drinks I had no intentions of ever drinking. I want to be with you. I can’t believe I bought a flower instead of a condom. I’m usually way more rational. I’ve obviously lost my mind.”

Knowing exactly how that felt, Jane laid her forehead against the water faucet and laughed at their situation. How did she go from milk and cookies to potential sex with Walter in the span of fifteen minutes? How was she going to be able to let him walk out of her door tonight? She didn’t want him to even move from his position behind her, much less take his hands off her. She suddenly wanted fiercely what she hadn’t wanted from a man in a really, really long time.

“I’m probably going to hate myself later for telling you this, but I’m wearing these loose clothes because my monthly cycle should be starting tomorrow. Tonight should be safe,” Jane said quietly. “I normally would
not
make this kind of offer to any man, but I think I might implode or do something drastic if we don’t move this forward. I want you too.”

Walter leaned back and spun her in his arms until they were face to face. “Just like that?”

Jane closed her eyes and nodded. “Yes. Just like that. I’m dying here, Walter. I don’t play games.” Then his mouth was on hers, finally on hers, and his kiss was all heat and demand, just like it had been when he’d kissed her at the hospital. This time though there was inevitability in every thrust of his tongue into her mouth. When he finally dragged his lips away, Jane melted from relief and would have fallen without Walter holding her up.

“My efforts to practice this sort of thing have been hit or miss in my life, but I’ve always been careful with women. Still—as awful as it is of me—I’m happy as hell our first time will be sans all that,” Walter said, startling Jane into squealing when he scooped her up. “Don’t worry. You weigh a hell of lot less than Clinton. I saw your stairs. Is your bedroom up there?”

Not waiting for an answer, Walter started walking in that direction.

“Clinton? Oh right, the guy you saved,” Jane said, getting a vision of him with the oxygen mask before she could push it from her mind. “I’m glad you saved him, Walter. I’m glad you saved yourself. My bedroom is. . .oh, you found it. I’m a little slow tonight, aren’t I? It’s late and I’m usually asleep by now.”

“On a Friday night? You really need to learn how to party, woman.”

Walter snorted at his own joke, laid Jane on the bed, and crawled up her body until he could lay on top of her. He took her glasses from her and put them on the night stand. Then he did what he had dreamed of doing for ages, lifting and wrapping her legs around his waist. It was way better than anything he’d imagined.

“I think this would be a lot a better if we were both naked,” Jane said on a moan, running a hand over the beginnings of a beard. It helped to know Walter could grow one. Her hands roamed his shoulders causing all kinds of mini-eruptions inside her.

Walter snickered at Jane’s forthright comment before pressing between her legs with all his weight. When she hissed and clawed and arched, driving him insane with wanting to be inside her, he chuckled and strained to get even closer.

“Walter. . .” Jane called urgently, unable to move his bulk, not even a little bit.

“I know. I’m happy to being doing this too. Talk about blessed relief,” Walter said roughly, sliding hands under her backside to rip off her shorts. They rolled down and away with no effort at all.

“Alright. Hurry,” Jane said, giving in to the inevitable.

Walter shook his head even as he unsnapped and unzipped and slid his jeans down his legs. As he pressed against a now naked Jane, he kicked them off into the floor at the bottom of the bed. Then he was sliding for real inside the wonderful woman wrapped around him. She moaned and arched and took him in.

“Ssssh. . .don’t move. Don’t do anything else except open your eyes,” he begged, holding still as he throbbed in her depths. “Open your eyes, Jane. I want you to know this is still me. And I want to see how you feel about it. I want to know this is okay.”

Jane forced her eyelids up and met Walter’s cool stare. When he started moving inside her, she saw him brace himself on one hand and use the other to slip under her shirt again. His grip on the breast he claimed was painfully possessive. And thrilling.

“You are the most real, most wonderful, most beautiful woman that I’ve ever met. Don’t forget that tomorrow, no matter how much you might have second thoughts about giving in to me tonight,” Walter said, slowing his movements to draw out the first time. Jane’s face was flushed. Her hair was spread out like a brunette cloud across the pillow and her back was arched up to keep her breast in his hand. Every part of him was incredibly happy to be with her at last. And Harrison had been one hundred percent right. Only one woman would have instantly brought him this level of satisfaction.

“This is so much better than I ever dreamed. How can you stay hard for so long?” Jane asked.

Walter chuckled at her question. Hadn’t she been married before? “Haven’t you heard it’s never over until the fat lady sings?”

Jane froze beneath him. “What does that mean, Walter? You think I’m fat?”

Laughing out loud, Walter rolled with Jane until she sat astride him. If their bodies hadn’t been connected, she likely would have run. He stroked the top of her bent knees and up her legs before circling back to her inner thighs. He grinned when she moaned at his touch and bent forward, hair falling around her face and his. She was incredibly responsive to everything he did.

“I wasn’t referring to your body. I love your body. That was a nervous joke. You are not the least bit heavy in any way at all. Your curves make me crazy. I’m happy as hell when you wear those baggy pants that cover them up so no other man can see them. Your legs and breasts have featured in my fantasies since I’ve known you. And I’m working like hell to stay hard until you get there first because I do not want to disappoint you, especially this first time,” he explained.

Fearing she would cry or say something wildly inappropriate in response to Walter’s caring, Jane closed her eyes. She focused on enjoying their physical connection while she let his words go as deeply into her as the rest of him already was.

“That’s very thoughtful of you, Walter. All men should be as considerate. Let me show you a trick about how to hurry things along for me.”

Jane rose up and rocked back down on him. The second time she rose, he arched up to meet her. She repeated the motion several more times before everything tightened in her to the moment of truth.

“That was a great trick,” Walter said breathlessly, rolling Jane back under him when he caught her holding her breath.

She called out his name then with the first wave of pleasure and lifted him from the bed. The action caused him to explode on his next slide into her and he had to fight to hold her down enough to finish. He paused at the end, still feeling himself giving up everything. Her body eventually grew still beneath his, but his happy dick still throbbed inside its haven. It didn’t surprise him in the least that he only wanted her more than ever.

“I’m going to say that achieving simultaneous orgasm the first time definitely means I earned the right to call you my girlfriend,” Walter announced, when he could lift himself enough to put his hot, hungry mouth on Jane’s.

Happier than he could ever remember being, he cupped both breasts under her shirt and swallowed Jane’s groan of appreciation.

He knew just how she felt.

Chapter 11

Jane giggled when she caught herself humming as she made coffee, but when she tried to stop smiling, it was impossible. She was tired and sore and sleep deprived. Yet she couldn’t have been happier with herself. . .or with Walter. Last night had been far better than any possibility she had ever imagined happening between them.

Upstairs the reason for her satisfaction still slept, even though it was already past noon on Saturday, and more than twelve hours since he’d carried her there. When she’d finally left her queen size bed a short while ago, Walter had been sprawled on his stomach, stretched out and taking up most of it. His feet had hung over and his arm span went more than side-to-side. He had looked so big. . .and totally wonderful. The temptation to bite his enticing, tight rear had been powerful, despite the fact that she would absolutely die if he tried anything more, especially after keeping her up most of the night.

Though to be fair, she’d done her part to return the favor. During the last round, she had pushed and held him down on the bed as her mouth traveled over him. Walter had seemed very appreciative. In fact, Walter had taken it as an invitation to repay her in kind. He had obviously not been very practiced, but he certainly got an ‘A’ for effort, and for being a quick study with an open mind.

“All right. Stop ringing, I heard you. I’m just not interested in answering today,” she exclaimed, when someone pressed on the doorbell until it rang and rang and rang. She had always hated the sound of the doorbell, but it had never been important enough for her to consider replacing it—until now.

Padding to reluctantly check who it was, Jane looked down at her bare feet, crumpled shorts, and t-shirt, shrugging at how much worse for wear they looked after spending the night in wadded up heaps on the floor. Walter had not been gentle when he’d finally divested her of all her clothing. Figuring it was a neighbor, or a random salesperson breaking her neighborhood’s no solicitation rule, she decided not to care about her appearance as she yanked opened the door.

She was shocked to see Nathan Waterfield smiling back at her.

“I see some things never change,” Nathan said, his gaze sweeping over the ratty, disheveled clothes he’d seen Jane in a million times. “No matter how much money you make, you still love wearing your damn grungy clothes from college. Are you ever going to grow up, Janey?”

“Whatever you’re selling, I don’t want any,” Jane said as coldly she could. Her ex-husband was still a handsome bastard—operative descriptor being ‘bastard’. Her gaze swept him looking for residual lust inside her while she did so. Gratefully finding none, her newfound immunity to his polished chino allure brought a smile to her face. She could thank Walter for that. One night with Walter Graham had reset her sexual expectations.
