“I sentence you to death, you bastard.”

Kate raised the knife and brought it
down, stabbing the blade into the mud directly in front of Mike’s face.
 

He lifted his head. She could see the
shock on his face. His mouth opened and he coughed. Foamy flecks of blood
dotted his lips. She sat down across from him. She pulled her knees up and
wrapped her arms around her legs. Her gaze never left his face.

Dry-eyed, she waited for him to die.
