Lambert has always had a fascination with monsters—he was and is a fan of horror comics,
Famous Monsters of Filmland
magazine, and the classic Universal monster movies, and while his brothers were building
model cars, he was building the Aurora monster models. Owning an original of a Doc
Savage cover painting is a dream come true for Lambert, especially since it has a
monster element to it that evokes the feel of the Bama paintings on those monster-model
boxes!
Lambert is an attorney and has worked as a lobbyist, public-policy consultant, state
utilities commissioner and most recently as an Administrative Law Judge. At the time
of this writing he lives in Polk City, Iowa, with his two daughters.
Lambert has visited Lester Dent’s hometown La Plata, Missouri, dozens of times, and
has made it a point to place flowers on the graves of Lester and Norma Dent every
time he visits. Lambert’s activism as a Doc Savage fan has included publishing a small
book about Lester Dent,
Lester Dent: The Man, His Craft and His Market
in the early 1990s, and later publishing an anthology of short stories, set in Lester
Dent’s hometown, entitled
Two-Fisted Tales of La Plata, Missouri.
He also produced a documentary film about one of his other obsessions, the comic-strip
caveman Alley Oop. This was a biography of Oop’s creator titled
Caveman: V.T. Hamlin & Alley Oop;
the documentary has aired on PBS stations.
