The others were looking at him
when he suddenly up and moving to start looking. Medwin spoke to them as he
moved off. ‘This is going to be random as we have begun to see there is not a
lot of stuff on Renegades, the little we have found. It is not in the master
index so they have been placed in the library at random to hide them. It is
going to be a long search.’

The girls went off together and
Angel headed off after Medwin. As he walked Angel began thinking on what Medwin
just said. He is right what bits we have found have not been in the master
index, why would they do that unless it has information they don’t want anybody
to find.

This search is going to be long
but we must look, for at the moment we are blind to what we are doing. We need
to find out more, there must be more, we only need to find it. I will just walk
down an isle and look at the names of the books and see if anything looks like
it should not be there.

Got to find information on
portals as well, I’ll let the others know when we get back together. I just
hope we are doing the right thing in trying to fight the Renegade. ‘Aura are
you there I need to talk with you?’

‘I’m here Angel, you sound
worried about something what is it?’ She felt the indecision in his mind.

‘Are we doing the right thing or
do you think we should go to Gavrie and tell him everything? I want to so much
not to be scared but I am?’ Angel stopped and sat down against the book shelves
as he spoke with Aura.

‘I don’t know Angel, all I do
know is that since meeting you my life has changed and it has changed for the
better. My brothers and sister would agree with me there. Since you and your
friends have come into our lives we have done things we never would have. We
have feelings that have never been in our minds and bodies before. They are
feelings we would never give up now, you and your friends are a part of us and
we thank you for that.’ Aura just let her feelings and emotions pour out into
Angels mind.

Angel sat there, tears streaming
down his face with the strong feelings that Aura just expressed to him. ‘Thank
you Aura that’s what I needed to hear. We are meant to be together and we are
meant to fight the Renegade. That takes away a little of the fear of are we
doing the right thing. Now let’s find anything that will help us?’

Angel got up off the floor and
wiped his eyes and carried on looking at books. He stopped and thought about
where books like that would be hidden. As he looked along the shelves moving along
them coming up to the next shelve and then going up till it was hard to see the
writing on the books from down at this level.

‘Aura if you wanted to hide books
so they could not be seen wouldn’t you put them up on the highest shelf so that
from this level you could not see the writing. So we should be looking up on
the top shelf?’ Angel started to climb the shelf as he spoke.

‘That would be one place and a
very good place, but be careful as you climb. I think it would be better if the
others where here so if you find anything you can drop it down to them?’ Aura
called to her brothers and sister to let the others know what Angel was doing
and where he was.

The others turned to find Angel
at the top shelf looking along to see if he could see anything that might be
any good. Angles eyes looked along and then he turned back the other way before
shaking his head and turning to look across the isles at the top on the other
side.

He was about to climb down when
he spotted something straight across from him. ‘Medwin can you climb the other
side and right across from me is a book, which has a red and gold band running
down the spine. I think it might be of use?’

‘I’ll climb and see. Can you see
what it says from where you are?’ Medwin was almost half way up as he finished
speaking.

‘Not all of it, what I can make
out is portal and we need to find out more on them. That’s it not far now can
you see the one I mean?’ Angel started to climb down as he finished talking to
Medwin.

Medwin had reached the area Angel
had indicated. ‘I think I see the one, yes that’s it I will drop it down to
you.’

Medwin pulled the book out and
dropped it down to Angel. He climbed down to see what they had found. They all
gathered around to see if it was any good. Angel opened the cover and read the
title. ‘Portals and their everyday uses. I think that is one book we can use
now lets see if there is any other books a round.’

They walked the isle and Medwin
and Angel would climb to the top and see what was in the top shelves. After
they got to the end of the isle all they had was just the first book and time
was running out so they decided to settle for the one book for the moment.

They headed back to where they
had their food and things which they had placed in a little area where anybody
coming in would not be able to see them. Sitting down Shylyn started to look
through the book while Medwin and Angel had a drink.

Shylyn spent a while looking at
the book before closing it and telling them what they had found. ‘The books
good, as it tells you all about opening portals and what keeps them open. As we
have not had time to be shown in class yet this will give us great help. I
think the portal that the teachers will show us will be small as the book tells
us you need a lot of magic to open big portals.’

Maive moved closer and looked
over Shylyns shoulder to see the book better. ‘Lets work out by the book how
many wizards it would need to open a portal the size to let hundreds of the
creatures into this dimension.’

They sat there and read the book
a bit more getting as much information on the size one wizard could open. Then
they could try and work out about how many creatures you could get through it
and how long it could be kept open. After a while they closed the book and
started to work out how many creatures one wizard could bring through.

They stopped and looked and
decided to try and work their figures again as it did not make any sense the
figures they had just worked out. Still they came to the same figures and the
look on their faces showed just how big a portal it would have to be.

‘If these figures are right one
wizard would not be able to get more than three creatures in before he would
have to close the portal. One wizard would never be able to let the amount of
creatures through that are getting through. It would take at lest ten wizards
to open a decent size portal to be able to allow that many through.’ Angel
whistled as he finished working it out.

‘They would be able to keep the
portal open for a good hour before they would have to close it as their magic
would get very weak if they kept it open any longer. So with the amount of
creatures coming in at each attack and that is not counting the ones attacking
the Hatchery and the Riders School and here? They are using a lot of wizards to
keep it open. If we could find it and fix those Renegade Wizards and stopping
them we would be able to see our dragons without having to miss the fighting.’
Angel looked at them waiting.

‘How will we stop at least ten
wizards when we still haven’t finished one wizard. We still have a long way to
go yet. We will have to keep looking, as there must be more books?’ Shylyn
stood up as she finished.

‘Yes you’re right let’s put this
book back and make sure we remember where it comes from. I think someone will
have to write the number of the isle and how far down it is. Then I think we
had better get back for evening meal.’ Medwin gave the book to Angel as they
headed back to the place where the book came from.

Medwin climbed and Angel throws
the book up to Medwin so that it went back in the right place. They gathered up
their things and headed down to the meal hall as they were still hungry.

A Revealing Glow

After the meal they sat in their
common room and thought on the portal the Renegades were opening. There was not
a lot of talking, as hearing of how many wizards it takes to open a portal.
They had an uphill battle to think of a way to stop ten full grown wizards.

They were trying to think of ways
and they were not having the best results. Angel thought of maybe trying to let
the teachers know the portal for the creatures was very close as to try and
control that many creatures over a long distance would not be advisable, for
the creatures would start to go different ways to what the Renegades would want
them to go.

How would you go about telling a
teacher the portal would only be just off the horizon so they could not tell
where they came from. If they knew they would be able to get some wizards there
as Dragon Riders would not be able to stop wizards.

We’ll have to think of another
way, if only there was a way to be able to tell the teachers. They would want
to know how we come to that conclusion. We just would not be able to tell them and
that would get us into a lot of trouble.

No this is our fight no one
else’s as they don’t have dragons to ride. Our Dragon Riders would have to
contend with unruly dragons which they do when it was absolutely necessary. We
are going to have to get our magic stronger so we can do it. In the mean time
the attacks are just going to keep on coming.

Angel yawned as his thoughts
turned to sleep. ‘Come on I think it might be time for bed, maybe sleeping on
the problem might just find a solution. Let’s see what the morning brings.’

They all got up and headed off to
bed, and dreams of dragons and creatures. The morning came with another storm
brewing out at sea. The lighting playing in the dark gray clouds looked really
great. Being able to sit and watch a storm like this helped relax Angel. It was
the lighting in the air it charged everything and it made him and his friends
feel good.

At lest with the storm here the
Renegade would not be able to come and the Renegades would not be able to open
portals and let the creatures through. They might get a couple of day’s peace
with this storm.

They all walked down for
breakfast to find Gavrie waiting there for them. ‘Good morning I think I will
join you for breakfast this morning. With this storm brewing I think we’ll not
have any trouble with creature attacks. From what we can tell with the weather
spells this one is here for at lest a couple of days. Come let’s get something
to eat and sit?’

Gavrie walks ahead of them and
they look at each other with surprised look. Angel spoke very quietly as they
followed behind. ‘We must be careful for Gavrie is keeping a close eye on us.
We must watch what we say when talking to him.’

Medwin, Shylyn and Maive nod
their heads as they stand in line to get something to eat. They could see
Gavrie was in a good mood so something must be up. Angel was wandering just
what. He’s been keeping a close eye on us for I see him looking at us when he
thinks we’re not looking.

Gavrie turned with his plate and
looked at the four. ‘Come on you are going to need more than what you have on
your plate. I’ve been keeping watch on what food you lot have been eating and
it’s more than what is on your plate there. When you’ve got enough come over
and sit with me?’

They watched him go, turning they
went back in line to fill their plates. They knew he was right, for they were
hungry. They had been finding they had been eating more and more each day.
Turning to the others Angel in quite tones spoke. ‘I’ve been wandering if it
was normal for us to eat this much and I find I’m still hungry when I’ve
finished eating. I think we might be going to find out.’

Shylyn looked at Maive and she
nodded so Shylyn spoke. ‘We’ve been eating so much after the meals we have been
worried. We go and get snacks some nights from the kitchen just to keep us
going. What about you guys?’

Medwin spoke before Angel could.
‘The same but it’s in the morning we find it hits us, the early hours, so we go
down and do the same. Come on Gavrie is looking our way so we better join him.’

They headed over to the table
with Gavrie and could see he was smiling at them as they sat down. ‘Well that
looks a lot better than what you had on the plate before, now dig in and we’ll
talk when you’ve finished.’

Angel could see Gavrie’s plate
was full but not quite as full as theirs. They all ate in silence till the meal
was finished, before Gavrie looked at them and spoke. ‘Now I suppose you’ve
been wandering why you have been so hungry of late?’

‘We have been eating a lot and
finding we raid the kitchen each night, why is that?’ Shylyn got in before the
others as she was worried. She could tell the others were just as worried which
made her feel a little better.

‘There is nothing to worry about
and have you noticed there is always plenty of food in the kitchen, you lot are
not the only ones. All first year students do the same its part of the process
of learning your magic.’ He smiled at them as they gave him a surprised look.

‘Magic takes a lot of your energy
and it needs replacing, you do this when you eat. All the food you have eaten
has not put any weight on you now has it?’ He waited as they thought about what
he had just told them.

‘We had wandered why we were not
putting weight on, but just put it down to all the work we had been doing and
with the creature attacks loading the lances and carrying them over to the
wizards. We never thought about our magic using our bodies’ energy.’ Angel felt
relieved as he answered.

‘Now you can go to the kitchen at
the times during the night it is opened. The kitchen staff has been commenting
on the food that is going. The kitchen is open at three in the morning and it
is open late to midnight. We wizards still have need of food as well as you
young ones. Now I will see you in the Crystal Chamber in one hour.’ Gavrie got
up as he finished and gave them a nod and went off out the door.
