“We can't be here,” Josh said, coughing. “We destroyed this place.”
“So you did,” Feodor whispered in her ear, his breath flicking her skin like the tongue of a snake. “But you
remember
it.”
A bomb landed in a busy intersection, flinging nearby people through the air in every direction. The planes few so close overhead that Josh could see the empty, black eyes of the pilots.
“And you know what they say,” Feodor said. “No one is ever really deadâas long as someone remembers them.”
His arms tightened around her as the sirens rose to a desperate scream.
