"You're fine," Dash said, stroking my hair. "Just a little concussion. Carlo got hit by some of the bullets but he's in stable condition right now."

"What the hell? He got hit? What happened?" It was starting to drive me crazy.

"Carlo Catelli is one of the biggest mobsters in the New York area," Dash groaned. "I don't find it as shocking as you do. He's notorious."

"What?" I was still confused.

"His family pissed off the Graziano family. There's been talk of an impending mob war for weeks now."

"Ohhhhh," I sighed. "I was kind of hoping it was your crazy friend Ronna. But it was my crazy friend. That's why I almost got shot. Okay."

Dash laughed. "Alright, you're making jokes. My Ella is back."

"Are you mad?" I asked, still choking on my emotions.

"I'm not mad," he replied, sighing. "It's that...I've fallen for you, Ella. Okay? And I'm just confused by your choice of friends, to put it mildly."

His words touched me deeply.

"I'm so sorry. I don't know what to say...except that I've fallen for you, too," I cried, leaning closer to Dash's chest as he pulled me in for a hug. "I fell for you the moment I saw you, and I promise not to hang out with any more gangsters."

He seemed more pleased that I'd ever seen him.

"You don't have to say anything else right now, hon. I'm so relieved that you're okay. Just work on getting better. If anything had happened to you, I would have..."

"You're up!!!" the perky female voice called out from the doorway.

It was Debra.

"I come bearing gifts!" she grinned, holding a pile of newspapers.

And boy was I shocked when I saw them. The headlines stuck out to me first.

"NEW DASH DE MAIO MODEL GETS GUNNED DOWN BY GRAZIANOS"

Then there were the accompanying photos. The first one showed Dash and me embracing at the party, shortly before the shooting. Who had even taken that picture? It was supposed to be a private party.

"PLUS-SIZED MODEL ELLA DATING BOTH DASH DE MAIO AND MOB BOSS CATELLI -- WHO WILL WIN?"

"THIS PLUS-SIZED PRETTY BREAKS HEARTS AND TAKES NAMES...BIG NAMES"

"Oh, God..." I groaned.

Could I have been any more embarrassed?

"Why are you upset?" Debra chirped happily. "No one's dead, and this is the best silver lining possible. We couldn't have even paid for this amount of publicity for the new collection."

"It is true," Dash agreed reluctantly. "Obviously, it would have been better if it had never happened in the first place, but here we are..."

"Yes," I agreed. "Here we are."

"Anyway, the doctors agreed that you should stay in town for a few days and recuperate," Dash continued. "So...my place?"

"Yes, get me the hell out of here. I hate hospitals."

After a few more hours, I was discharged with a warning from the doctor.

"No skiing, no doing anything crazy with that concussion, you got it?"

"Yes, Doctor."

"And, I know that Mr. De Maio has already discussed this with you, but it bears repeating. Your chances of survival increase the longer you stay away from Carlo Catelli."

"Ugh, I get it. So many lectures. Don't hang out with mobsters. Believe me, I've learned my lesson. No more Carlo Catelli."

The deliciously wicked honeymoon that had been my relationship with Carlo soured as soon as I heard that first gunshot. And, honestly, he paled in comparison to Dash. Dash was a real man, who wanted a real relationship with me.

Over the next couple of days, Dash and I stayed in his beautiful apartment, barely even leaving. The paparazzi was parked outside constantly, jostling to get the first shots of what they called "the plus-sized world's new power couple."

I received a text message from Daniela, all about the lap dance contest. Stripper Class had decided to hold the contest early, and she'd won. And, oddly enough, I didn't feel even a twinge of competitive jealousy. I'd already lap danced my way to Dash's heart, after all. What more could I possibly accomplish in that realm?

Dash nursed me back to health, cooking comfort food for us and checking on me every few hours as I slept, just like the doctor had instructed. After I was given the doctor's seal of approval, it was time for us to head back to L.A.

"I'm gonna miss New York," I said, looking around the apartment as we packed up our stuff.

"You are, are you?" Dash came closer to me, pulling me close so that I could feel him.

It was enough to make me gasp aloud -- he hadn't touched me since the shooting, insisting upon playing the professional role of Doctor during my recuperation.

"I am," I replied, covering his neck with hasty kisses. "Now that I have the health seal of approval, wanna play a different game of Doctor?"

"I thought you'd never ask," he groaned, pressing his hard cock into my body. "Now it's time for your exam."

Placing me on the bed gently, he quickly removed both our pants and underwear. Within seconds, I could feel him pulsing between my already slick inner thighs, and it was wonderfully intense. More intense than anything we'd done back in L.A. Now we had a history, and I felt like I could fully trust him, giving myself up to him completely.

"Dash!" I cried out with abandon, as I reached the first of two shattering orgasms.

I grabbed his buttocks, digging my nails in as he thrust. He wasn't far behind me in excitement, letting out a huge cry as he reached his own peak.

Afterwards, as we relaxed in silence, I couldn't remember the last time I'd been so happy. I had my dream job, I had my dream guy...

Finally, my life was coming together. And Dash seemed to feel the same way. Leaning over to kiss the top of my head, he whispered, "I'm so glad you came over to hand out beer and wine, then wound up bouncing all over my lap in a monokini."

My laughter echoed throughout the bedroom. "Me too, Dash. Me too..."

And then we stood up, put on our clothes, and started getting ready for our flight again. It had been a perfect trip, but it was time to get back to reality.

Our new reality, that is.

Together.
