Annie sat in her crumpled dress on the sofa in the villa, trying to comprehend how the night had unfolded. She woke with a jolt at the sensation of falling and sat up. She took a gulp of water from a glass by the bed and settled into the covers again. She tried to understand the attraction to the two men, and what it was, beyond looks, that she’d been so drawn to. She turned over, trying to name it and remember it. Her book needed it: her heroine needed a man who was just as irresistible.

She woke to bright sunlight and a hangover. The events of last night were absent and then invaded her memory rapidly. Her head whirled as she stretched and threw her legs over the bed. She chugged glasses of Evian water from the fridge, thinking of Louis again. She ran a bath and took three painkillers, listening to her stomach gurgle for food.

As the water softened her skin and wrinkled her fingers, she realized that whatever she had made her want something else. Pedro had pampered her, but she’d wanted him to dominate her. She’d had the luxury of two men touching her until she climaxed, but now she only thought of Louis. She wanted to know him, and break the game. She felt irritated at herself, with the niggling sensation that she may be nothing but a traditionalist in bed. A woman who wanted just one man: a man she knew.

She texted Kate:
I want Louis. Alone.

Half an hour passed, and she gave up drumming her fingers on her lap and waiting for a reply. The city waited outside, calling her. She pulled on flats and threw another bottle of water into her purse, hoping her headache would ease enough for her to enjoy a day downtown. It wasn’t until she was on the last step outside the front door that she felt her purse vibrate again.

I knew you’d want Louis. Sorry, you can’t have him. Both men left town this morning. How about writing something?

Annie sighed, resigned to the situation. Paris had been an even more amazing experience than she had anticipated. She was flooded with thoughts and desires for both men, and for the night she had.

“Halfway through my little European adventure…” Annie mused to herself. “I can’t even imagine what Kate has in store for me next…” Her thoughts trailed off as she smiled to herself, amused and intrigued by the possibilities that awaited her in her next destination.
