Chapter One

"No. Gain, no." Nina backed up as steadily as he advanced, but she knew she was going to run up against a wall at some time and had to keep glancing behind her so that she didn't run into anything or over anyone of the four-footed variety. He was calculatedly stalking her; looking for all he was worth just like the big cat she always compared him to in her mind. Well, except for the paddle in his right hand. That kind of dispelled the predatory cat image and replaced it with an annoyed husband image that was getting closer and closer, and looking madder and madder.

She gulped as he lowered his chin, keeping those steely gray eyes on her, pinning her with that God awful look that screamed that she was in deep, deep trouble. Nina put her hands up, knowing as she did it that they were going to be absolutely no defense against him whatsoever. Marrying a man who was more than twice your size and then agreeing - agreeing! - that he should have disciplinary discretion over her wasn't the smartest thing she'd ever done.

But then again... she thought with a fleeting smile.

She'd certainly seen that look enough before in the past years to know that it - he - meant business. Man, she hated it when he looked at her like that. It made her bottom start to tingle before he'd so much as laid a finger on it, but that face was telling her that he intended to do a lot more than just that.

Gain was never going to be a typical husband, though. The fact that he was the size of a house, had a full head of wavy black hair and a lantern jaw of granite drew female eyes like a lode stone and set him apart from most men immediately. Add to that the fact that he very firmly believed in precepts about women that were right out of the Age of Chivalry, and had a tendency to spank first and ask questions later, and wrap it all up in a package that was both muscle bound and brainy, and you had a true picture of Gain Sinjun Decker.

And he rarely, if ever, even had to raise his voice - just his eyebrow. It wasn't his way to get all het up, which was probably a good thing considering his size. Usually, all he had to do was make an appearance and whatever situation had arisen would calm down immediately. Nina had felt safe with him from the moment she'd met him - which she didn't rightly remember, because it was before she'd become sentient. He was two years older than she was, but they were the closest kids in the neighborhood in age. They'd grown up together as neighbors, and he'd been the same kind of person even before he'd attained his size - never the type to shy away from a fight, but also not one who would ever start one.

Gain had known what he wanted to be since he could remember. He'd always tinkered with cars and could do basic maintenance on one before he hit double digits. By the time he'd earned his license, he'd already rebuilt an old jalopy his father had given him from the ground up, and was the only kid in town with a tricked out Chevy Nova in cherry red with mag wheels and orange flames licking along the sides.

He'd gone to business school because he knew that eventually he was going to want to open his own shop. It wasn't a glamorous business, especially in the first years they were married, right after college. He came home every night sweaty and dirty and covered in grease, working long hours even on the weekends in order to make his business a success.

Nina wouldn't have cared if he'd come home covered in manure, as long as he came home to her, and their little two room apartment where they were excruciatingly happy even without the proverbial pot.

Those early years were extremely lean. They were deeply in debt, and quite often dinner was not a lot more than ramen soup and off brand soda, if that. But neither of them cared one whit. They had each other, and reveled in what time they could eek out together.

Back then, they didn't have the money to buy fancy implements for those times when he'd decided she needed a reminder of just who was in charge in their relationship. The awful truth was that he'd grown a horrid, completely natural one at the end of his arm and had no need for anything else. Gain had always taken care of Nina and he considered that aspect of that relationship a completely organic extension of that tendency. He'd been on the lookout for her from the moment the two of them were put in a playpen together. When they were younger, he'd always been the voice of reason that reigned in her headstrong ideas... like wanting to skate on a partially frozen stream near their houses.

By now, after years together, she should have known better than to do what she'd done. Gain didn't tolerate any misbehavior from her at all, and this was a big one.

A really big one, physically and literally.

They had agreed, long ago, in the interest of not ever getting bogged down in as much debt as they had when the business was first starting out, that they wouldn't make big purchases without discussing it together first. Originally, they had agreed on a mutual fifty dollar limit, back when fifty dollars was a huge sum of money for them. The limit had increased as the business had taken off, and now sat at five hundred dollars. Luckily, neither of them had a tendency to buy much on impulse, with the exception of his collection of Star Wars memorabilia and her clothes horse tendencies. But both of them enjoyed the hunt for a bargain as much as the actual acquisition, so she would very happily haunt all of the sales and outlets and they both scouted flea markets and yard sales when they had time on their days off together.

But Nina loved to entertain - to throw small, intimate dinner parties or just have everyone over to play cards and snack themselves into oblivion - and since all of them were dying to see the latest Star Wars incarnation, she had decided to host marathons of the movies that had already been released, and have everyone over to screen them on the two Sundays before the movie was released.

Her one problem was that although they had the seating to accommodate everyone easily, and she'd made it a pot luck affair, so that even most of the cooking was being delegated to a certain extent, the television in the living room was relatively small and old. She'd needled Gain about getting a new one, but they couldn't agree on which type to get, and when they couldn't agree his opinion settled the argument. She wanted one of the new plasma televisions that hung on the wall - preferably something obscenely large and clear, that would show the movies to their best advantage. They had been appalled to discover that some of their younger friends had never seen the original three movies, and Nina wanted them to really pop.

But even though the prices of plasma and LCD televisions had come down quite considerably, the big ones were still enormously expensive, and since they didn't watch TV in the den much, Gain couldn't quite justify the expense. He had thought they had decided that they could either get a cheaper, regular television or make do with the one they had.

Nina, on the other hand, had found exactly what she wanted online at a fairly reasonable price for what it was, and had actually already ordered it without so much as consulting her husband before hand. That little thought had niggled in the back of her mind as she'd clicked to "confirm" that she wanted to purchase it; that he was going to be unhappy when he found out. But she'd thought that he'd fall in love with it once she'd gotten it all set up and hung on the wall, where everyone could see how gorgeous and crisp and clean the picture was without it taking up any floor space.

It was the perfect idea.

Only he stayed home on the day it was delivered, and had gotten to the door first to sign for it. As soon as he saw the Best Buy box, he knew by the shape exactly what it was without Nina having to tell him as she hovered nervously behind him, wishing desperately that she was somewhere else, but the geek in her was also dying to get the thing open and set up.

"Now, now, Gain, I was just thinking of our guests, you know," Nina backpedaled nervously; wishing desperately that she'd cancelled the order when she found out he didn't think the way she did about it. But she just couldn't. It would be just perfect in the den for entertaining, which they did a certain amount of, and when they weren't entertaining she intended to put it in their room, just above their double dresser, so that they could enjoy it themselves.

"Our guests would have been perfectly happy with the thirty two inch screen, Nina, and you know it," he answered calmly, never taking his eyes off her.

Nina pouted. She hated it when he was right. "But a plasma TV would be so much better - " She cut herself off almost mid word when she realized that he had slyly maneuvered her down the hall to their bedroom doorway.

That was not a good thing, but there really wasn't anywhere she could go from there except into the big master bath - not that he'd stop there. If there was one thing she'd learned about him, it was that he didn't much care where she was when he spanked her. There was always something around that he could put his foot up on, and his broad thigh worked disgustingly well as a horse for her to lean over while he paddled away at her poor, unfortunate butt.

"But the new TV would be so nice and big and the picture looked phenomenal - " She could see that she wasn't getting anywhere with him at all, so she changed her tactics before he had a chance to reach out and capture her. Figuring that the best defense was a good offense, Nina stopped backing up and instead walked towards him, her arms outstretched. There wasn't an ounce of uncertainty in her step. She knew he'd welcome her with open arms. He always had, he always would.

Gain leaned away from her a tad, glaring down at her suspiciously, but she just nuzzled her cheek against the plate like muscles of his chest, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him tight to her. "Are you trying to bribe me, woman?" he growled, entirely unable to stop himself from wrapping his arms around her. "Are you trying to distract me with sex?" His lips automatically descended into the golden hair at the top of her head as he breathed in that familiar scent that was all Nina Rose Goddard Decker - a delightful mixture of her shampoo mixed with light traces of the Vera Wang perfume she preferred.

She peeped up at him with one eye. "Is it working?" she asked in that starkly hopeful voice.

He couldn't help it. He had to chuckle at her earnestness, and although his body was busy belying his words, he said as neutrally and sternly as he could manage, "No."

The distinctly feminine hand that had come to rest on his shoulder started to descend towards his belt. "What if I try a little harder?" She slipped her hand boldly under the waistband of his jeans, sliding directly over her answer as it twitched and burgeoned even more within her soft palm, chafing at the confines of his mundane tighty-whitey underwear.

He might spank his wife, and be open to several areas that were definitely left of center sexually, but in a lot of ways, Gain was a pretty stodgy guy, and underwear was one of his stodgier realms. He liked them a conservative, serviceable, and white. Early in their relationship, she'd made the mistake of giving him a pair of underwear that was purple and bikini style, and they had never seen the light of day.

Nowadays, she didn't waste the money. There were so many other things he was willing to explore with her that she really didn't give a damn what he wore beneath his pants, as long as she could always lower them and get to him when the mood struck.

And it still struck the both of them, often, even though they were going on their second decade together. The sex between them had never once gotten boring or rote. They were still as hot for each other as they'd been when they were in their teens.

But he also had depressingly good self control. Nina knew she was driving him crazy. She knew it as sure as she knew her own heartbeat was rising from more than his threat of a paddling, and that her body was readying itself for him, as much as it could. Even now, his sheer size amazed her, and she'd never been able to become blase about his presence within her. It was never easy to accommodate him, but she adored the way her body had to submit to his entry each time; how new it was no matter how many times they'd done it before.

Nina bit her lip and dropped to her knees in front of him, reaching up to unbuckle his belt and take down his jeans and underwear both at once to where she could get at the long, thick column of him that sprung forth eagerly into her hand.

His whole body was tense, and that was really the only other sign that she was having any effect on him at all. He stood there and watched her descend on him, open mouthed, hands on his hips - one still clutching his implement of choice tightly.

It was the paddle in his right hand that Nina watched as she suckled on him gently at first, then with increasing vigor, reaching beneath to cup and roll him carefully as her tongue tickled and teased with each descent.

It wasn't until - long moments later - that she watched with not a small amount of relief throw the menacing implement onto the bed with a guttural groan, letting his hands come down to cradle her head and weave his fingers into her hair, and she knew she'd won.

At least, for the moment. The trick would be to keep him occupied for long enough that he'd forget what his original purpose was...

Gain couldn't believe he was letting her get away with this. He shouldn't, but he obviously was. The problem was that she knew him - his body and its responses - too damned well, the wench. He loved the sigh of her kneeling before him, that golden blonde head of hers bobbing gently as she greedily devoured him.

It didn't take long for him to get to the point of no return - it never did when she did this. Hell, it never did with her at all, regardless of how they were indulging themselves carnally, or even if they weren't. All she had to do was walk into a room and he saluted her with at least one part of his anatomy immediately. Sex with Nina never got old. He never knew what she was going to do, and she'd been game for anything and everything he'd suggested. It seemed that anything intimate between them drove him absolutely crazy. Even now she had him on the verge of completely losing control, and she'd only been stroking him with her lovely mouth for less than five minutes.
