“That’s what she said,” he comes back.

He laughs even harder at his lame joke. Grinning even wider at him, I roll my eyes.

“Well, boys, it’s been fun. Shut up, Roger.”

I quickly point at him so he doesn’t finish again with a lame joke. Jeff shakes his head and laughs into his drink.

Turning around, I walk down the hall back to my dressing room. I was gonna go to this thing Lux has planned tonight, but now I’m freaking exhausted and just want to crash. Tristan’s voice rumbles through the hallway as he thrashes into the mic. I grin devilishly to myself. If they only knew that man just royally fucked everything out of me, hard, out in some parking garage... a thrill runs through me remembering it.

Coming up to the door, I twist the handle and push my way through, wishing I could just crash on this couch. It looks like Frankie already took some things out, but some makeup is still laid out. I have to tell him that I don’t plan on going out tonight. He’ll probably tease me for being no fun, but I just can’t fucking do it.

Using the back of my hand to cover my yawn, I take a seat on the couch, falling back on the hard cushions. I just need to rest my legs for a minute before getting changed. I can’t believe how tired I am. My heavy eyelids burn over my eyes as another yawn stretches my chest.

“I take it you’re not going out,” Frankie says, standing over me with his hands in his back pockets. He sticks his chest out, his hair falling in pieces across his eyes.

“N-”, No, I try to say to him, but another damn yawn comes out.

Frankie gives me a knowing smile then spins on his heels, heading over to the vanity.

“Yeah, it’s probably better that you rest anyway, girl,” he says over his shoulder. Placing certain pieces back in the case, he goes on.

“I’m flying home tonight. I wasn’t going to go home for the holidays, but my mom called. She and Mr. Wonderful broke up, so…” He circles his wrist in the air. “Now, instead of spending it with you in L.A., watching naughty sleigh boys while baking cookies with my penis cookie cutter set… I’ll be spending it in Sacramento, watching
White Christmas
while using… my penis cookie cutter set. ”

He grins mischievously at me.

“Oh, shut up, Frankie. You love
White Christmas
,” I say, laughing at him.

Stopping what he was doing, he faces me,

“I know,” he says back excitedly, clapping twice before going back to packing his stuff up.

“Your clothes are over there,” he points his finger off to the left of him where my clothes sit folded up neatly on a small bench beside the door. “Kind of glad you’re not going out. My flight is at three and JFK can be kind of a bitch sometimes.”

“Even this late, Frankie?”

He always exaggerates. Frankie’s forehead wrinkles as his eyes widen.

“Girl, that’s when they pull the most shit. All bored at work, looking for something to do. Mmm-hmm. Watch later. I’ll put it on Instagram.”

He points at me with an eyeliner brush then goes back again. As I’m heading for my clothes, Frankie speaks up again.

“Are you going to be seeing your parents at all?”

Ah, man. No.

“I didn’t get a hold of them yet,” I say, bummed.

Picking up my jeans and t-shirt with my underwear hidden between them, I turn toward Frankie.

“I should give them a call, though.”

Frankie closes his case and tucks his hair behind his ears.

“Well, if anything happens over break, call me.”

“Nothing out of the ordinary should happen. At least, I don’t think it will.”

I hold my clothes up to my chest. A teasing grin creeps back over Frankie’s lips.

“Don’t fuck yourself out.”

Oh, my God! Frankie busts up giggling ridiculously as he swings the strap over his shoulder and comes over to kiss my cheek.

“Merry Christmas,” he sings cheerfully at me, winking. Seconds later, the door latches behind him.

Smiling, I shake my head.

“Oh-
kay,”
I say to myself as I head to the back to change.

I wonder what it would be like to have Christmas at Frankie’s family’s house. He’s told stories here and there, but I bet being there in real life would be a trip. The thought of his family brings up the subject of mine again. I think when I land back in L.A., I’ll call my mom and see if they wanna come out for a few days. Then I’ll be able to tell them about the baby. Wow! That sounded kind of crazy. Yeah, that’s what I’ll do. I’ll invite them then tell them. I think?

Chapter Fifteen

Sophia

“Hey, Mom!” I squeak.

Our flight got in a little while ago, so I thought of just calling my mom and getting it over with. Technically, I’m not telling her yet, but I want to see if she can come out this way for a few days.

“Sophia? You’re on break now?” My mom’s voice lightens up on the other end.

“Not really a
break
break, I guess, but I do have a breather right now.”

“Oh, that’s good.”

Biting my lip, I hold the phone tightly to my ear with my right hand as I look over at Tristan. He’s focusing on the highway, his forearm flexing deliciously every time he switches gears.

“What are you doing for Christmas, honey?”

Christmas?
Oh, I’m going to tell you that you’re going to be a grandma.

“That’s why I was calling you, Mom.” I clear my throat at the end so it doesn’t sound all squeaky. Shit, get this call together. “D-do you want to come out here?”

Tristan lays his hand down on my knee and gives it a reassuring squeeze. The warmth of his touch does have a magical way of soothing me.

“Hmm. Let me ask your dad if he can get the time off when he comes home from work tonight. I honestly would like to have a little sunshine on my face right now.”

Her soft laughter fills me with this gentle warmth.

“That and smog. You’ll love it.”

No, she won’t. She’s kind of a tree hugger. Anything that’s too damaging to the planet, my mom hates.

“I’d be there for you, Sophia. You’re all the sunshine I need.”

“Mom, you’re corny.”

I can’t hold my laugh in. She giggles back.

“What? I would have thought you’d like that.”

“I do, Mom. I do.”

Tristan lets go of my knee and goes back to shifting again. My eyes catch his as he watches me for a moment before going back to the road.

“Call me as soon as you talk to Dad, okay?” I say back to my mom, staring at his profile.

“I will. Now, rest. I bet your body needs this little break badly. Don’t want to wear yourself out.”

Agh
. You have no idea.

“Okay, Mama. Love you,” I say to her as I look out my passenger side window.

“Love you, too.”

“Bye.”

Pulling the phone away from my ear, I end the call. Blowing out a small breath, Tristan grips my knee again,

“They don’t know yet?” Tristan asks.

Staring at the blank screen on my phone, I shake my head.

“My dad has to see if he can take the time off. They’ll call later.”

A low chuckle slips from Tristan’s lips. This getting my attention, I turn to him with my eyebrow quirked up.

“What’s funny?”

Tristan is in a playful little mood right now. Giving him this half grin, I watch his eyes scanning the road ahead of him.

“You’ll have to wait.”

Wait a minute?

“Does this have something to do with the surprise you were talking about back in Milwaukee?”

Tristan bites his lip and oh, my God. It’s so fucking sexy.

“Maybe,”
he teases.

Damn.
Playful Tristan is mind-blowingly sexy. His fingers reach forward, turning the sound up. Hed PE’s
Stand Up
fills the car. I like this. We stay silent ‘til Tristan exits the freeway.

I stare at him and the signs on the freeway. I don’t know the 101 that well, but I do know that my condo exit is not for a few more miles.

“Aren’t you taking the wrong exit?”

“Taking a detour,” his deep voice says back flatly.

I try to see where the fuck we’re going, but the thing about L.A. is, there’s so many areas that even after living here for two years, I still don’t know shit.

It’s a nicer area, so that’s good. Sometimes I panic when I get lost around here. When I first bought my condo, I had just gotten my car detailed so I went out for a celebration spin. One turn led to another and another. When my stupid talking phone’s directions totally kicked my ass, I finally gave up and called Matt, because Roger only knows where the studio, liquor stores, and strip clubs are at. Anyways, two and a half hours later I was finally pulling back into my driveway, following Matt on his superbike.

“This isn’t a detour, Tristan.”

I playfully roll my eyes at him. He’s trying to keep a straight face, but his cocky smirk gives him away.

“How about you close that hot mouth of yours until we get there.”

His commending tone has my stomach flipping again. Gawd, I love it!

“Fuck you.” I try to sound pissed, but my damn girly giggle slips that up.

“Oh, you will.”

He twists his neck over and grins down at me, his eyes already stripping my clothes off.

“Sound pretty sure of yourself.”

I cross my arms and look back at the road. Tristan shrugs his shoulders, tilting his head to the side.

“You’re clenching your thighs again, Sophia.”

Shit, I didn’t even know I was doing that. Well, kind of. It’s my body’s natural instinct whenever I’m around Tristan. Like I said before, I’m hornier now than I have ever fucking been in my entire life. It’s almost annoying now. Then my eyes scan up Tristan’s thick, jean clad thighs and I think, nah… maybe it’s not annoying. Not when Tristan is being the “sex god” as Frankie would say.

Tristan downshifts and I know we’re getting close. He’s driving us to a gated community.
Where in the fuck?

“Got an idea yet?” Tristan asks me as he rolls down his window, handing a man in a booth some card.

“Are we visiting someone?”

Why else would we be here? Tristan shakes his head as he lets out another deep chuckle. He doesn’t say anything back, but instead reaches for the card again and nods his head at the older gentleman. Licking his lips real quick, he shifts back into gear and slowly takes off.

Sitting up closer to the dashboard, my eyes dart around the perfectly landscaped neighborhood. Then the car turns left and my eyes shift to the large, beautiful one-story house that sits on lush grounds with trees enclosing it from the roadway.

With its wraparound porch and New England vibe, something about it reminds me of being somewhere in Connecticut or Maine, but the grounds sporting lush bushes and lemon trees with the Santa Monica Mountains in the background make you definitely feel L.A. How in the hell is it so green when it’s always dry as hell out here? Just as I’m admiring the lemon trees, my Chevelle parked right outside the garage catches my eye.

What in the fuck?

“What do you think?” Tristan asks almost nervously beside me.

Still staring at my car, my eyebrows pinch together in confusion.

“Wh-what’s this?” I wave in the general direction of my car parked in the driveway.

Turning to face Tristan, he’s looking down, trying to suppress his smile.

“A
house,
” he cockily answers back.

Rolling my eyes at him, and not in a playful way this time, I glare up at him. Huffing out a breath, he rolls his neck across his shoulders, clearly irritated at my reaction. Well, what the fuck does he expect?

“I bought us this place to have something a little more comfortable and out of the way when the baby is born.” My face drops as I glare from Tristan’s impassive face to this nice house. “Say fucking something.”

Tristan’s voice is low behind me. I’m just staring at this really nice house, unable to comprehend what’s really going on.

“Why?” I whisper more to myself than him.

“I just told you why. I wanted something bigger and in a nicer neighborhood for when we come out here.”

Aw, my. Part of me wants to stay pissed that he did something so major without talking about it with me. But seeing Tristan fucking Scott get all family oriented… Shit, I’m speechless. My eyes begin to water as I look over the put together yard, almost being able to see our child playing around outside.

Tristan begins massaging my tense shoulder. Bringing his chest up to my back, he whispers in my ear.

“Wanna check out the inside?”

I lay my hand over Tristan’s hand that has been kneading the tension out of me, nodding my head yes. Tristan excitedly pulls away and gets out of the car. He’s just rounding the car when I open my door slowly and get out.

I’m still shocked that he bought this place.

“When did you do all of this?”

“Everything was finalized about a week ago. I had Lux get a hold of a moving company to get your car out of storage and brought here yesterday.”

Tristan laces his strong fingers around mine as he leads me up the path and onto the porch. This huge guy standing in front of an almost cookie cutter house is a sight. Tristan’s energy is defiantly high right now. I smile up at him and he lets go of my hand to pull out the keys.

“It’s going to be bare. I didn’t know if you were gonna be into it or not.”

“What if I wasn’t?” I ask suspiciously.

Tristan pauses and smirks down at me, his eyes getting that dangerous darkness to them.

“It wouldn’t have fucking mattered.”

“Excuse me?” I laugh.

Tristan opens the door wider for me and places his hand on the small of my back. As I walk through the door, I suddenly pause as I take in the large, airy room with the kitchen to the rear. A large marble fireplace is off on the right, which I’m guessing must be the living room. Sun pours into the room through the tall glass windows.

“It has three bedrooms and four baths. Has a pretty sweet pool and fire pit out back,” Tristan says behind me as I walk farther inside.

“Holy shit,” I mumble under my breath.

This place is so beautiful, but I hate that I feel kind of guilty that Tristan is doing this because I’m pregnant. Like maybe he wouldn’t have done it if I wasn’t, or ever, for that matter. I know he loves me, but guilt still nips at me.

Tristan wraps his arm around my shoulders and pulls me into his side as he leads me over to the kitchen. My mouth drops again when I check it out. Cooking in here would make me feel like I should be recorded for one of those cooking shows.

Same as the front room, it’s light and airy with marble countertops. The island has a cook top and single sink built right in, which still leaves tons of space. With the mixture of modern, stainless steel appliances and the light color cabinets, it has a country chic vibe. You almost need something with extra hominess to get a breather in here.

Tristan shrugs while combing his fingers through his hair.

“I don’t really know too much about decorating, but I figure Frankie would just love to help you with that,” he says dryly, giving me a half smirk. Little shit.

“He would. He would also love the ten percent I would pay him for all the long hours,” I tease back.

He says nothing, but makes this fake horrified expression. Tipping my head back, I laugh at him as he takes me to see the upstairs.

After checking out the house, Tristan brings in our bags and orders pizza while I soak in the tub. The warm water washing over my sore muscles feels so freaking good. Forgetting to tie my hair back, half of it sticks to my back whenever I sit up. The muffled sound of my phone playing
Papa Don’t Preach
by Madonna suddenly comes out of my bag. Huh? Frankie probably added that on there.

Leaning over the side of the cast iron tub, I stretch my fingers out to reach for the straps and finally tug it toward me. Grabbing it by its sides trying not to drip water on it, I raise it up to see who’s calling me. Should’ve known from the ringtone Frankie set... it’s my parents.

What a dumbass, I laugh to myself. Sliding my finger across the screen, I tap the speaker button with the tip of my finger. Don’t want my soaking wet hair to ruin it. These damn things are so sensitive and I still don’t have a case for it yet.

“Hey, what did you find out?” I answer the phone.

“Babygirl!” My dad’s voice booms through the line, spreading my smile further across my face. “How the hell are ya?”

Ah…

“Good.”

“I got your mom and me on tomorrow’s flight. Don’t really feel like flying on Christmas Eve. If that’s all right with you, hun?”

“Of course, Dad, but you should’ve told me before booking. I was gonna cover it.”

Aw my.

“Don’t worry about that, Sophia. We’re just happy that you actually have Christmas home. Well… home in the States, anyways,” he chuckles.

Scanning the bathroom, I smile at the idea that this is my home in L.A. now, and it feels right.

“What time do I need to come get you?” I squeak into the phone, unable to hold back my excitement.

Even though I gotta drop some heavy news on them, I’m still so happy that my parents will be here.

“Hold on, babygirl.” His voice fades from the phone and I hear clicking sounds going on. “Looks like we should arrive around noon your time.”
