looked up and noticed that the sun dropped closer to the horizon as if touching
the tops of the trees to ignite them. Darkness crept closer, surrounding the
far edges of his vision. Samuel closed his eyes and felt forgiveness in his
heart. He could not recall her name or remember why she had granted him
absolution.
